      You need to use the oscilloscope to get the correct wave form as I show in the video in order to tune the detector to the coil. You must adjust your sample delay in order to find the different metals better.

    is there a practical power limit to the output of a PI detector? would a bigger mosfet and thicker coil on a high voltage rail and capacitor bank give more practical range? legal constraints aside. are phased arrays a thing in detecting?

    • @SurfDetector
      @SurfDetector  2 года назад +1

      Unfortunately bigger is not always a good thing. You quickly run into diminishing returns. Depending what you are looking for you can increase your coil size but then you loose sensitivity to smaller objects. Phased arrays as far as I know are not used in metal detecting.

    Hi
    Would you have the Fourier transform of your signal with and without metal in the coil field?
    I would like to know what the signal frequency range would be. It may be possible to filter the useful signal a little from the total signal. With a narrower range, it might be possible to increase the sensitivity of the useful signal.
    Thanks

    • @SurfDetector

      Hello my friend,
      I do not have the Fourier transform recorded. Keep in mind that the video you are commenting on is strictly illustrating how to choose the correct damping resistor value.

    I dont see on your scope 360 ohms, or are you using the graph boxes on the scope, how do we arrive at the proper ohms value, i had a member from Geo send me a brand new voodoo manual because he decided not to build, plus he sent me a brand new ITMD book as well for Christmas, all free, nice present for me. Thanks for the vids, i figured you would have it up today, so i stopped buy.

    • @SurfDetector
      @SurfDetector  3 года назад

      Hi Matt,
      The ohm value does not come from the oscilloscope as it does not measure ohms. I was just commenting. What you do is use the jig and then when you have the correct wave-form you disconnect the jig from the circuit and then attach it to your multimeter to measure the value. Good news about the book. There is a lot of good information in there for you.

    So, for the deep detection using a LARGE mono-coil of large nickel/iron meteorites (and that is ALL I'm looking for) with their much lower conductivity than gold, would the low-resistance overdamping ("overdamping" when looking for gold) be preferable for any reason? I also have a Hammerhead version D1 PCB to build.

    • @SurfDetector
      @SurfDetector  3 года назад +1

      Each coil will need to be attached to the detector and then critically damped. The wave form does not vary according to the material that you are searching for.
