What you get out of this episode is his cards, but the thing that stands out is his love for his wife. Special episode Ty! Heartwarming and such an incredible hand-curated collection. Love this channel 🔥
I think that there should be a "collectors" hall of fame that would maybe have separate rooms for individual collectors. People like Dave and Marshall Fogel deserve to have their collections and legacy live on and be enjoyed by fans. The years and money it takes to create these collections are impressive alone!
1.4k away from 40,000 subscribers! I love seeing all the comments from Chasing Cardboard fans new and old looking to help grow this channel! This has to be the most underrated channels on RUclips. We’re almost to 40k. Let’s keep it rolling everyone!
Such a great episode! You boys keep hitting consistantly high standards, episode after episode! Well done, CC team! Firstly, great to see success stories like Chris, and his card-shop! A man ahead of the curve. Now, to the star of the show... Dave, and his INCREDIBLE collection, encylopædic knowledge, and - most importantly - deep love and affection for his wife of 40+ years. You could see that money is definitely NOT a driving factor for he and Mary. They collect with a purpose, and they collect together. Really refreshing! The hobby is merely catching up with them. Some mega-money dotted around there - and, of course, they both know that. I hope they both continue to collect, and if/when they do decide to sell the more valuable items, that they exceed their expected values. Keep up the great work, Ty and team. 👍
That was a great video, an even better story behind it all. If we took an average of $10,000 per Jersey just a guesswork, but that right there is over a $1,000,000, that’s insane. TY for the show Ty
I really really like Dave!! This is probably one of my favorite episodes because I enjoyed looking at Dave's collection so much and seeing how much did it meant to him and his wife he's a really good guy
This could quite possibly be my new favorite episode. You guys make it so tough. There's so many great ones. This collection was incredible. So many items that are very hard to find and some I've never even seen or heard about. What a kind, passionate and all around great guy with respect and love for his wife. Warms the heart. Clearly the collection means a lot to them and that is something that is so special. Those jerseys were unbelievable! I'm glad that I now realize why my bicycle never went super fast. It's because I didn't have any Mantle's or Aaron's in the spokes. That had me rolling!!!
My favorite yet. Amazing collection with a true love behind it. I hope someone or hall of fame or museum sends him jersey covers but i think he likes to look at them to remember the great chase him and Mary had. Wow! Just Wow!
Excellent collection purchase Ty..😍😮 Love the basketball sets and was there a 71topps basketball set included?🤔 That's my favorite set overall..🎉 Congrats also love all the jersey's Dave has in his collection they're fantastic especially the Payton sweetness..🤗 Take care..👍❤🔥🤙
Great show, lots of crazy pieces... some way though I am so conflicted seeing those jerseys in that closet... odd feeling. I can believe he and his wife love them but is that how you handle something you love? I dunno just odd feeling watching this. Great show though and great pieces.
Ya know...I've either replayed or caught every episode...and always really enjoy the collections and banter....this one was different for one specific reason. When you got excited and said "FERGIE!" My first card was a Ferguson Jenkins Cubs card. I carried it for so long it fell apart. I was born in 74, it was already older than me... but I didn't care, I carried it daily, no matter what I was doing. Now, after living in Baltimore later in life, I'd met a lot of ball players going to get balls signed with my late stepdad...miss you Paul...but rarely players I was super excited about other than Cal Ripken jr, Reggie Jackson and Kirby Puckett. Fast forward past 89-92 to about 9? Years ago, I'm back in Illinois,a single full time dad to an AWESOME daughter who's now a teenager at that point, in a tiny little town and on Facebook,a guy from the town over,in Indiana... Princeton...advertises FERGIE JENKINS WILL BE SIGNING AUTOGRAPHS to make money for a family whose daughter was very ill. The cause was enough for us to donate...then go buy some authentic MLB Baseballs!! There were maybe 20-25 people there, some had single items, some had ... well lots of stuff 😂. My kiddo had been playing baseball in a summer league, and was as eager to meet a genuine hall of Famer as one should be...Me? I was nervous. I don't get starstruck, I don't lose my cool, I've been very lucky in life and know several very prominent athletes and entertainers, some are family. Yet .. every memory of this man being with me through so many important things, that card always coming out at perfect and heartbreaking moments alike...My mind just kind of froze. So,we waited until everyone was finished. Ness got MY dad a ball signed "to Jim", herself a ball "To Ness... Keep swinging away, All Star!" My good friend and former Orioles owner Steve Geppi, who'd played old timers games with Fergie, His inscription was personal...then,it was my turn. Anxious, nervous....but most of all ... dumbfounded. Here he was ... Ferguson Jenkins...in the flesh..... something I didn't think possible, especially in such an intimate setting,me,the kiddo, 2 guys running the door and HIM!! He stood, shook my hand, introduced himself, asked my name, big ole smile on his face ..and "Can I sign that ball for you Bob? Looks like you've got a death grip on it!" And a chuckle. Brought me right out of it. I told him about that old Topps card, and how I'd found another for this, but it just wasn't THE card, which was long gone. We talked about ball, life, charity work, All-star weekend in Baltimore, the reason for his visit ..and most of all...my daughter. He was really interested in her being a team MVP in a co-ed summer league and her interest in the game. His driver was literally told"Oh .. we've got time..." No less than 5 times. Finally,it really was getting to be time for his 3 hour drive back to the airport and we said our goodbyes. Ness, completely enamored ,me ...6 years old again. Our signed baseballs are still displayed...but the pics? She keeps hers very hidden. It's "her moment" like so many other cool pics she has. Steve Geppi was very thankful and I'm pretty sure it's on his desk. Id do anything for him...my first friend in Baltimore. My pic? Proudly all over the net. Massive smile. Genuinely elated and in the moment... it's my favorite picture that's not with Ness. Ferguson Jenkins is truly a national TREASURE. A great pitcher and humanitarian to be sure...and an amazing guy to meet in person. Extremely gracious and very very personable. Yes...I'm long winded,I apologize fellas...but as soon as I heard that "FERGIE!" It took me directly back to that little church annex room ...the day I met my baseball hero and living legend.
Very cool story Bob! That just goes to show that it’s not about the items themselves, but the ways those items connect with us and our life stories. I’m glad you got to meet your childhood hero and also share that moment with your daughter! Very cool! And Fergie Jenkins sounds like a fantastic guy who’s really in touch with his fans. It sounds like you were lucky to have a really cool moment with him!
Chris at Top Shelf is a great dude! Have done breaks with him for years. Was able to go into his store back in 2019 and he was very welcoming. We talked for while, opened up hobby box and had great time. Definitely worth stopping by for anyone wondering
Nice mention of Bill Henderson in there. Henderson is an amazing jersey resource. He's published multiple editions of a book covering every style of mlb jersey from the last 50 years. 4000 pages.
He has to love working at Home Depot, knowing he could retire at any moment just by selling off that jersey collection alone. Another awesome collection and episode!
Awesome collection and great guy, but unfortunately that Bulls jersey has a completely Fake MJ autograph on it, however the rest of his collection is epic!!
What’s next for the hobby is it’s going to get back to its roots and making their main customers (true collectors) their focus once again. Wax prices come down, singles prices go up and stabilize, quality control picks up, mass production cools down some and Fanatics gets back to listening to the customer and make changes to things that have been big topic issues. (Game used mem cards come back, etc.). So this is more my hopes and not a prediction sadly
My feedback for this episode is that it was great seeing a collection like that. The guy literally has value in the millions on his jerseys all just hanging in a closet so that's cool. I felt like this episode was 99% show and tell and 1% deal. I mean what did you even buy besides the 3 or 4 sets you put on camera? I would love to see a more specific breakdown of what was purchased. I guess it helps with negociation when he asks for 10K and you offer 12K so props to you for not taking him lower than 10K. Also 12K isn't going to buy at new kitchen so Dave you and Mary are going to have to sell one of those jerseys or jackets if you want a nice new kitchen.
Ty, I find it very honorable that you could’ve easily said OK to the 10K, but instead to give him the fair value, you offered him more than he even asked. It’s very honorable in a hobby that is become less and less honorable.

What I appreciated most about this episode is you can tell Dave loved his collection but he loved Mary even more. That’s special.
Well said! I think that really shone through.
Bro’s whipped
@@cgbc61not being whipped. It’s respecting your partner as she respects him by the way it sounds
I sometimes want to give up on this hobby. Then I watch episodes like this. ❤
I don't even collect cards and this was one of the most enjoyable collector videos I've watched in a long time. Thanks and kudos to the editor.
What you get out of this episode is his cards, but the thing that stands out is his love for his wife. Special episode Ty! Heartwarming and such an incredible hand-curated collection. Love this channel 🔥
That's my husband!!! Great show.
Incredibly lucky man to have you and your support of him!
You can tell he has so much respect and love you!!!! Great husband!
Your husband is really cool what an amazing collection. I hope you let him sell another item so we can see part 2, and hear more Dave stories 🙏🏼

Chris is one of the good guys. Glad you got to see him

"Collect what you like (to collect)." Best advice ever and a motto I personally adhere to. Great show, in my hometwon - Elgin! ;) Thanks, Ty!
Another great episode 😃
This show needs to be on TV
Chris is one of the best dudes in the hobby! Love the hobby happening IRL! So good!
That guy Dave is so awesome and his wife sounds like she is too ❤
I sure appreciate Dave telling his story, and you for bringing it. Reminds me of why I started collecting in the early 70's. Thank you.
This channel is an instant thumbs up from me at this point! Keep it coming boys!
Great episode!! I felt like a friend or neighbor in his home. Beautifully done fellas. What an incredible collection.
Such a great episode! You boys keep hitting consistantly high standards, episode after episode! Well done, CC team!

Wow! What a collection, but more impressive to me was the backstories on each piece, jersey or card. I just live for this stuff, can’t get enough ❤❤
Insane collection, love these types of video's!
Another awesome video. 👍 thanks again for working with me on that 1/10 Definitive auto for my PC. 👍
Amazing Collection, and what a Great Man He is!
I like the plush above the jerseys, also getting stored, and saved in the same closet, but probably not the same value :) LOL
Yess!! A new episode! 😊 just what I needed
Same! They always hit at just the right time haha
Great episode as always guys. You hear it over and over but here it is again: this should be on TV. Excellent story telling and production.
Agreed!
Dave’s collection is really incredible. Amazing video
One of the most amazing collections I have seen! Awesome curated collection. Was there a Gretzky rookie in the hockey cards?
What a fantastic episode!! Dave was really cool too! That was one of the best collections!
Another Great Episode TY Appreciate these weekly Episodes. A;ways looking forward to the next episode.
👇 real collectors!
Nice episode. I feel bad for Dave. Prayers for him
Just when I think I’ve seen an episode that can’t be outdone……! 🤩
Can you tell Dave to at least put the higher end stuff away in a safe? With the exposure of this show, he could easily lose everything.
Couldn’t agree more!
Wow nice find beautiful
This wins.
That game used jersey collection…..absolutely mind-blowing
Chasing Cardboard is my favorite show about card collecting. May God bless these men
That was a great video, an even better story behind it all. If we took an average of $10,000 per Jersey just a guesswork, but that right there is over a $1,000,000, that’s insane. TY for the show Ty

Great video, Rock Chalk!
Cool to see you drive through my hometown. I live right by topshelf
Great episode. Truly enjoyable to watch
Agreed!
We should get a part 2 of this. Title it, The negotiation! Ty VS Mary will he get the football cards. Lol 😂
😂
You're at my local shop in Elgin! Amazing
AMAZING! ❤️
Ya, those 35 Chicles are insane!!
It is. As a redskin fan and WV Wesleyan alumn I have the cliff battles in a PSA 6 in my PC.
Good to see you visit Elgin; just 20 minutes from me.
Dave reminds me of my father that passed some how some way he had Parkinson's and his hands used to shake like that RIP popps
Great show, lots of crazy pieces... some way though I am so conflicted seeing those jerseys in that closet... odd feeling. I can believe he and his wife love them but is that how you handle something you love? I dunno just odd feeling watching this. Great show though and great pieces.
What a amazing guy! Collection was unreal . The guy who has them was so sharp cool to see
Now that collection was truly amazing.
Great vid guys!!!!

Another great episode! Some amazing memorabilia from a true curator of the sport collecting hobby.
thumbnail is 🔥. looking forward to watching
One of the best episodes! Loved it!
Wow a complete 35 chicle set!!! That’s one of the holy grail sets and one of the tougher sets to complete!!!!!
He has to love working at Home Depot, knowing he could retire at any moment just by selling off that jersey collection alone. Another awesome collection and episode!
That jersey collection was insane! The closet was worth more than the house 😮
Absolutely amazing collection!!
Glad you think so!
Amazing episode!!!!!🎉

Omg if Mike was in the auto closet he would have never left
You are right. Ty would have lost me there for sure.
Fantastic episode
Can't believe I missed this for 21 hrs 😂. My absolute favorite content that's card related!
Love how you flip by a Bobby hull rookie and don’t comment - I’d be drooling
Who’s Bobby Hill?
Haha. Kidding.
Amazing collection - omg. Awesome episode man
Crazy jersey collection. Really surprised the value and how they are just sitting in a closet not individually wrapped in plastic.
Totally agree with idea of experience redemptions they meed to make way more of those !!!!! Amazing idea !!!!!
He’s the real life MR MERTLE from sandlot
Wonderful collection
I want that Bulls Chair omg!
ayeee, lets gooo!!!
I wonder if he ever got into comic books ?? That was my big hobby growing up , and I STILL love them.
I’d be okay with you see card shops every trip.
Hey Ty!! Finally got to watch this episode. Crazy collection!! What are doing with the basketball and the hockey?
Awesome collection and great guy, but unfortunately that Bulls jersey has a completely Fake MJ autograph on it, however the rest of his collection is epic!!
67 Topps Baseball set is worth about 3/4 of the sale price.
guys pulling out grail football jerseys like their nothing lol
The collection reminds me of the end of The Sandlot with James Earl Jones...

such iconic jerseys and he has them on plastic cheap hangers omg
👇Really good store ❤😅
