I'm adding a 10kw array. Unfortunately in Virginia we can't go off grid. It's illegal. So adding a battery backup is totally pointless. I'll be running 325w panels with a solaredge system with power optimizers on a ground mount.
@@VoskCoin sorry let me reword that. If you are connected to the grid and want to just run off solar and battery backup it is illegal to disconnect your power service with your provider. You have to be fully off grid 100% of the time or on a grid-tied system.. also depends on your county/city laws. I'm in King George, VA
Plus battery technology is not the greatest right now. So you will end up spending soooo much more for huge battery backup that will only get about 10yrs out of vs your 25yr solar panels.

@KyleB What are some good brand name panels wireing Etc? Also can we get all the The material locally or is something we have to have shipped in? I live in NC? Thanks!!
I don't get the bottom line here. He shows mining about 200 Zcoins per month for ~$800/month income. (Months later in Apr 2021 it is still around $4.) This is a huge setup with tons of equipment, there is no way that $800/month is worth this type of investment. What am I missing?
you're not missing anything. The amount of resources that went into this including the land area make this project a total loss from my estimation. Also, His solars produce only 5500 Watts?! Did I get that wrong?
Love it! I live in SE Missouri where there are rolling hills in and out of town. This would be perfect!!! I just have two questions though. Putting in all that effort, and he didn't go with a sun tracking system for his panels? That makes panels 5-10% higher efficiency. I've even read about "smart" tracking systems that use the panel's GPS location so that the motor moves it into position each night to catch the very first rays the next morning AND compensate for the position of the sun based on the earth's tilt an all that stuff! I know he mentioned hydro-power in the last few minutes of the video, but there was no mention of using wind power as well. I wonder why?
Superb video. There's a ton of detail for anyone thinking of trying solar. You asked all the best questions, and it's obvious that CrazyDane really wanted to share the knowledge. He seems like a sound guy. I hope this one goes viral for you 😃
Inspiring. I have 50-60k coming to me from an inheritance. Something I never thought I’d get. This is my goal with that money. not on this scale at first but this is it.
Good Job demonstrating different Solar Types and configuration. I have a 10 kw system attached to a 7.6kw inverter. Half the 10kw panels face East and the other half face West so you never get 10kw all at the same time which is great for the inverter. Peak summer i generate 60kwh/day and winter about 35kwh/day. Best banking power months are the winter months when the AC is off. Here in AZ. the AC costs are high and consume too much power. Rainy days hurt but AZ. is mostly sunny year round. My system barely supports two rigs.
I'm in Az too, Portal, and have 80 active panels, 12 more waiting to install. All microinverters. About 115-120 kWh per day this time of year. Do you really think it's an advantage having half face east and half face west?
@@portalminer8813 No I don't, but the majority of the panels are on the East and catch the morning sun. around 11:00 a.m. both sides of the house are hit by the sun until afternoon when mostly the west panels have sun. Remember, I have 10kw of panels and a 7.6kw inverter. It can't handle all the panels all the time. My house roof is ^ shaped and the sun goes over it left to right.
Start mining Pi, the cryptocurrency will be launched this year, and once it does, you won't be able to mine anymore. You don't need graphics cards you only need your phone, which is cloud mining. Code: Chutsky Download the app Pi network. (AppStore & Google play)
330-350kw of generation a day, priced at 12 cent per kwh, that's $39.60 to $42.00 a day, of electric, generated. Very very nice. Up to $1200/month. This dude's got a damn power plant in his yard.
Micro inverters also have other pros as well. One goes out the system stays on and they convert the power at the panel. if the string inverter goes out the whole system goes down. Each setup however is different for the users need.
Man I was expecting so many more miners in that set up. Beautiful piece of land and love his set up with room to grow. Who says boomers don't get crypto!
I think he only runs enough miners to the point that he has no electric bill. Any more and he would run past his credit. During the day hes able to run the miners and generate enough into the grid so they run at night. If he adds more miners then he wont be able to run them at night without paying for them likely. I was looking into DIY 5KWh systems. Can get good ones for about 10k. They can probably only handle 2 rigs 24x7 though. This guys setup is much higher power. Nice things is that he has the land to add more.
@@shansen008 Thats if you're lucky enough to live in a state that has a net metering agreement where you get the credit. Some states have done away with it or are getting ready to remove it. No. The value of a kWh is the same regardless if you generate it yourself, or buy it from the power company. People tend to believe solar-generated electricity is "free". It isn't. This guy found incredible deals (like I did buying my 41 solar panels on the used market), and also touted a Zero cost of installation, plus the ability to take advantage of big solar subsidies (in his area) to lower the overall cost of the project. For these reasons, people need to realize the implied very low cost of this particular solar farm isn't at all typical. Further, and given how he seemed to be guessing at the cost of his project, I think his numbers are off. I know my costs. To the dollar. No guessing required.
Just curious. Is it normal practice to have both sides of those massive fuses completely exposed when the box is open? Seems super sketchy, but I'm not familiar with this stuff beyond your average household breaker box.
Idk if its "normal practice" but he said the someone from the county and the power company went out and assessed it so it has to be up to the state/county electrical code.
Nice project😎 Realize WHEN util.Grid Fails (he said c-Servers "require ~9+kW" (@6:22+)or use ~220+ kWh/DAY) all his arrays will be OFF...keep that Genset tuned & fueled!

@11:22... cost discussion was in reference to the ONE micro inv. ground Array (32 modules) for $8,000-9,000 for PARTS Only. His arrayS Total = "50,000 Watts of capacity" x his est.(at min. 3:33) of $1.50/Watt = ~$75,000.oo (PARTS Only) .🌄
$8k per panel. He has like 4 panels. Then he has about 15-20 devices in there and each device is around $3,000-$5,000 each. Then you have his hundreds of hours of free labor. Minimum $150,000 setup
That is not even close to what this cost to build. Guido is closer to it. Not sure why he is underselling his cost on this so much but just the parts would be closer to 100k than 8k. Put solar panels on your home and see how much that costs if you do it yourself, 8k is like 1 array lol.
If you have a roof mounted solar array, could you not build them entire system on a rail system that you electronically control via an electrical motor? so you slide the entire array down off of the roof of the garage to run maintenance on it?!..
I Live in a country which have +250 sunny days but get really hot in summer Like Arizona heat and more my question is can I do this in these conditions and would the pannels get damaged or the farm would over heated alot in summer
Most every solar panel manufacturer today puts at least one bypass diode in each panel to prevent a shaded panel from draining current from the sunny panels in a string.
This is the video that brought me back to mining and gave me "the fever". Living in Hawaii, NOBODY mines crypto. We have the highest electricity rates in the country by FAR. The electric company out here is corrupt as all hell as well and slows down the rate with which they allow people to use solar at their homes the way this man does. They claim the grid cant handle it, but they make no real attempts to upgrade the grid either. That being said i caught the fever bad. I currently am lucky enough to not have an electric bill so i dabble a bit. Ive got 2 RX 580's (A nitro+ and a red devil) just running phoenixminer/nicehash 24x7. Getting an average of 61.3 MH/s out of them. One only uses 84w(nitro), the other is at 97w. I use same settings in my launch parameters, so not sure why they are so different. Still yet, i think thats pretty good efficiency. Ive got a 5600xt lying around waiting to be put into a system, and my radeon VII just arrived today. This is so addicting. my clocks for those struggling or new: i use afterburner to peg the fans at 70%, everything else default. Within the miner i set the cards up at: core 1130, mem 2200, cvddc@825mv, mvddc@875 both cards stay anywhere from 59-65C depending on ambient temp. No AC. Thanks for your vids man, im subbed and they have been a huge help. I wish i had found this channel long ago.
I absolutely love that setup, amazing, but there is no way in hell that hes close to returning ROI on even one of those solar arrays plus his ten rigs.. no way.
Agreed. It looks like a fun hobby, but this doesn't look even remotely commercially viable, even with all the 30% tax credits or rebates included. Would have been better off just buying bitcoin with all the money spent on the solar setup.
Yea and it’s not like I’m talking out of my ass, I grew up on a completely off the grid home, and I mine, maybe he will return Roi in 10 years, which is the average ROI of a solar setup not running 3000 wats to a mining farm
@@beefwantko7269 10 years in today's market yes, but don't forget I caught the wave back in 2017 and was making over $500/day for a good while (and had several S9 miners back then as well). So yes, I'm a few years away from breaking even.
He said in the video that the first panels he installed in 2015 have almost paid for themselves already. You also have to calculate his cost per watt over the ~25 year life of the panels. I'm sure he'll be way ahead in short order.

Does he get charged a surge charge? I heard a system over 15khw get a fee from the power company for having the power be readily available.
I'm adding a 10kw array. Unfortunately in Virginia we can't go off grid. It's illegal. So adding a battery backup is totally pointless. I'll be running 325w panels with a solaredge system with power optimizers on a ground mount.
That’s awesome where at?
Why is it illegal?
@@VoskCoin sorry let me reword that. If you are connected to the grid and want to just run off solar and battery backup it is illegal to disconnect your power service with your provider. You have to be fully off grid 100% of the time or on a grid-tied system.. also depends on your county/city laws.
I'm in King George, VA
Plus battery technology is not the greatest right now. So you will end up spending soooo much more for huge battery backup that will only get about 10yrs out of vs your 25yr solar panels.
Would you want to do a video tour when you’re done? I’m in Fredericksburg so I’m probably only 30-60 from you :D if you do click the about page here on RUclips to grab my email and we can figure it out - id just drop it here but comments get crawled and then I’d pickup spam
@KyleB What are some good brand name panels wireing Etc? Also can we get all the The material locally or is something we have to have shipped in? I live in NC? Thanks!!
Not using battery? so when night mining using grid?
he's on the grid yup, yuge difference to using batteries
I don't get the bottom line here. He shows mining about 200 Zcoins per month for ~$800/month income. (Months later in Apr 2021 it is still around $4.) This is a huge setup with tons of equipment, there is no way that $800/month is worth this type of investment. What am I missing?
you're not missing anything. The amount of resources that went into this including the land area make this project a total loss from my estimation. Also, His solars produce only 5500 Watts?! Did I get that wrong?
What happens at night.. does his back-up hold it down
Holy crap this is the future. I cannot wait to own a house and build my own solar arrays like this. Amazing work.
Good luck!! Make it happen :D
Damn you think it is a good idea to start mining? We got like 150 Kw solar and 300 Kw hydro. 6 cents per kWh.
I heard the added complexity makes them unreliable
not only unreliable, but an incredible PITA to do DIY and then maintain. Those trackers can easily amount to 30% of the entire install, too.
Wow how awesome is this video!
Nothing about his battery setup?
Crazy Dane ... Revisiting a classic Vosk guest. This should be fun.
Good to see you man! I hope you enjoy the video
CrazyDane, is a true inspiration! Total genius, that man is.
I appreciate the real-world examples you provide.
It doesn't consume battery. It's on coinmarketcap in the untracked listing. On the marketplace, there are already transactions for a value of $100 approx and when you just download the app you mine at 0.25 pis/hour. Use my code as an invitation.
Code: Chutsky
Download the app Pi network. (AppStore & Google play)
still cant figure it out, to solar power 5 mining rigs at 3,3kw/h each, how many KW solar system sholuld be? ofc to make them work 24h/day
How soon do you get a return on your investment
this is awesome are those solar panels designed to handle extreme weather well?
Most outdoor solar panels ate designed for weather, I guess it would depend on how "extreme"...?
330-350kw of generation a day, priced at 12 cent per kwh, that's $39.60 to $42.00 a day, of electric, generated. Very very nice. Up to $1200/month. This dude's got a damn power plant in his yard.
I agree on the micro inverters. You really only need them in shading areas. Hes in full sunlight so string inverters are best.
I was just thinking that
Micro inverters also have other pros as well. One goes out the system stays on and they convert the power at the panel. if the string inverter goes out the whole system goes down. Each setup however is different for the users need.
Is it possible to site mining farm anyplace in the world especially in Ghana?
Here in hawaii no more net metering but the older systems like mine are grandfathered with the original net metering agreement and houses that have net metering agreements are worth more because the contract can be transferred to the new owner.
Im also in Hawaii Greg....FBI.
I was pissed when i found out they did away with it. Im currently looking for a house and thats one of the things on my list. Im not gonna get taken to the cleaners though for it. I might just wait for the next downturn since i have low rent right now. Its such a sellers market that it doesnt make sense to buy. Id be better off just buying a lot and building myself. AirBnB has ruined the real estate market here. No way in hell property should cost this much when half the population is living off the govt. and waiting for their next stimulus check,
@@shansen008 big island here too. don't buy now, wait a year or so, its crazy prices. im in waikoloa village and my neighbor just sold for 1mil. He bought it only 3 years ago for 600k

How long til break even and free money.
I like how he has a trampoline that means he probably has grandkids, dude imagine this was your grandpa/father
@@cybersamiches4028 yeah very normal
I just hope they pull the trampoline away from the panels before they do their jumping xD.
dude I was so thinking, why is he not my pa
@@jaspertickler1831 As long as nobody does any backflips everybody should be OK
No guys, the trampoline is a his way to reach the higher parts of the solar panels
So does electricity end up cheaper this way?
The 120 case fans on the rigs themselves, do you have them pulling heat away from the rigs or blowing air towards the GPU exhausts?? Thank You.
This guy has the dream mining setup!
I love how you engage with your audience in the comments section.
Nice project😎 Realize WHEN util.Grid Fails (he said c-Servers "require ~9+kW" (@6:22+)or use ~220+ kWh/DAY) all his arrays will be OFF...keep that Genset tuned & fueled!
not me just freaking out during the ad read seeing 4 eth just casually bought, took me a while to realize that it was much different back then
I need as much information about this setup as possible. This is what I have been dying to do.

I was shocked when he said it was only $7-$8k to build. That's about what it cost to finish our basement
This is DIY. There is a lot of free electrical work here. He is probably a retired EE. For you or me it would be 50k+ easy
@@byronwhitlock6005 I agree, this guy knows what he is talking about, def retired from some engineering or some other profession
@11:22... cost discussion was in reference to the ONE micro inv. ground Array (32 modules) for $8,000-9,000 for PARTS Only.
Vosk...
If you build s dedicated off grid system you can use 240 volt (single phase european) inverters to run your miners. They are slightly cheaper.
Hope you brought your shades to block out all those haterrrrs 😎
Good job with the camera work. Best wishes 🙂
How many sun hours do you have there over the year?
Dude is a wealth of knowledge! Thanks Vosk for bringing it to us.

No it doesnt but it sure benefits from photovoltaics ..
How come the grass grows normally under the panels where they get no sun?
I so want to live the green life. Does he have electrical plans for this?
If you have a roof mounted solar array, could you not build them entire system on a rail system that you electronically control via an electrical motor? so you slide the entire array down off of the roof of the garage to run maintenance on it?!..
Finally Vosk I been waiting for this, now I know got some data ty
I wonder if his setup can support 5 Z15 miner 🧐

Good day gypsy, how are you going?
I Live in a country which have +250 sunny days but get really hot in summer Like Arizona heat and more my question is can I do this in these conditions and would the pannels get damaged or the farm would over heated alot in summer
Good stuff!
Yup Zcoin likes the solar route. Im guessing voscoin looking for a cashout opp to build a solar farm
voskcoin are you still mining or did you perma-exit from it???
So this is where are all the graphics cards went.
This is so addicting.
my clocks for those struggling or new:
i use afterburner to peg the fans at 70%, everything else default.
Within the miner i set the cards up at:
core 1130, mem 2200, cvddc@825mv, mvddc@875
both cards stay anywhere from 59-65C depending on ambient temp. No AC.
Thanks for your vids man, im subbed and they have been a huge help. I wish i had found this channel long ago.
Are there no dead fronts on any of those panels??
That is really cool. That guy is awesome at solar. Thanks for the entertaining video. --chris
@Vosk coin✓√ . 👍
That's awesome! How often does he have to clean the panels?
