    Thanks mate, i had the tool but they don't give instructions with it so you helped me tie up loose ends like putting the pin back in..😊😊😊😊

  • @AsiAzzy
    @AsiAzzy 9 лет назад +19

    You need to loosen the link if the link you joined is stiff. (and will most likely be)
    To do so, you put the chain on the first row of prongs. (the prongs you used rests the chain against the anvil to push the pin in and out but the link will be stiff because you push the plates together the outer ones tight against the inner ones and the pin driving them trough friction in the outer plates) The first row of prongs support the chain from the inside and does not rest on the anvil, and in this configuration you can push the pin a tad bit only in one outer plate, that ensures the correct spacing between outer plates and effectively loosens the link if it's stiff (and i bet it is)

    Thank you, sir.
    I pushed a pin all the way out. Tried to get it back in, but I guess you can't with the tool only. My chain is a little shorter than I would like, but that's ok.

    You should've specified that if you go this route, then that particular pin will be weakened and will break after a while. Bike chains are, mostly, sold with single use pins so this particular modification/adjustment can wear the pin out.

    Hi I just want to ask. What happens if I pushed the pin all the way? Can I still put it in the chain using the tool?

    • @theoverengineer
      @theoverengineer  4 года назад

      Pin falls out, difficult to line it up properly to snap back into place.

      Bicycle stores, chain breaker
      Length of chain is custom cut to fit a given bike frame size with a given drive train, no fixed or pre-determined length.
      Check out a shimano dealers manual on a 105 or higher specs derailleur, pictures show you exactly how.

    I appreciate the video but I don’t think you should reuse the pin. I saw something in another video called a master link... be careful riding, you and anyone else following this video.

    • @theoverengineer

      Master links are weaker than rivets, exactly as stated by manufacturers. Go advise them.

    What if it is very difficult to get the pin out ? Plz help

    • @theoverengineer
      @theoverengineer  7 лет назад +2

      Lube it.
      Also, the type of chain may be totally different. May need to grind the pin`s head off. Manufacturers recently come up with chains that can not be shortened, only connected. These chains are sold to fit 6-speed bikes, 8-speed bikes, 10, 12, 1 speed no derailleur, etc.
