    Man thanks for educating me on how to shorten a chain. When I was little my dad replaced my chain and didn't use a chain breaker. I couldn't remember how he did it. Now I know. You have a real smart little tool helper in training. You can tell you're a good dad. Thanks again.

    Thanks so much for the post!! My garage door cable recently broke so I bought a new one online and it came a couple links too long. Went to youtube, found this, and was up and running in a few minutes with no special tools. Saved me lots of time and possibly a service call. Thanks again!

    It works. You can also try pumpkin seeds, or any other seeds that you can spit with specific sound. Dependimg on the type of seed used, the chain will have different strength. Try 2-3 types of seed and decide which is the best for you chain type

    Nicely done! Do make sure the closed end of the master link goes points in the direction of travel or the chain could fall off again in the future.

    Will this damage the chain? I want to try it on my Pit bike chain, It's a motorcycle chain not a bicycle chain and I don't want to damage it

    • @chud327
      @chud327  7 лет назад

      I don't know for sure, I would assume that it would be the same as a bike chain. Let me know how it goes and thanks for watching.

    • @chud327
      @chud327  4 года назад

      I don't know, they were in the toolbox my cousin left to me. I would try Sears, Snap-On, Matco, auto parts store, big box store, etc. Good luck and thanks for watching.

    • @chud327
      @chud327  4 года назад +1

      Shay Johnson I would say hardware store and get a skinny punch or nail set. Good luck and thanks for watching.

    This is NOT a good solution for replacing a bike chain. It worked for me, but if you test the next link or two up the chain from where it has been broken, it will not fall under the weight of gravity anymore. That is, if you hold the chain up horizontally the first link still on the chain after breaking will not fall under the weight of gravity anymore as the others do. This link will cause a little bit more friction and will cause more resistance when you ride making it a bit more difficult. If you have a bike that is not that good it should not matter too much, but if you have an ok bike and want to go quick it will slow you down just that very small amount.

    Didn't work for me. The rivets were too tight to be knocked out this way because it wasn't possible to hold the chain steady enough, but they came right apart with a $15 chain break tool.
