Man, as someone who's seen the inside of a cell, this really hit home. Not gonna get into specifics and I wasn't there very long, but the hopelessness and the realization that no one gives a shit enough to write a letter, or give a call, really fucks with your head. Even my own family, while eventually they said how much they missed me, just were full of judgement and anger. Those are moments where you see who actually cares how you are doing in one of the shittiest situations possible.
Sometimes you just need to do one thing for your family to show their true colors. Never saw a cell but I told my dad about my step dad being abusive and my dad called cps. Whole family turned on me and took my step dad's side.
As a fellow depressed alcoholic struggling through life day by day, I really appreciate you. Thank you for everything that you do. This is where I black out and hopefully go to sleep
I write my dad weekly in jail now after I found this song. Thank you rusty, thank you for writing songs about those who can't truly express how they feel.
I said through out all my life: "I don't like country, and never will." Then I came across you... Rusty, you changed my perspective on music. I thank you for it. I know it doesn't sound like much... But your music really helps through life, boredom, happiness, sadness. I really love your music, love the lyrics, and the fact that your songs come from the heart and not some mistake you made in the past...
I k is the way you feel rusty cage has been a way for help through sadness or boredom basically any emotion his music is perfect for and my personal favorite is The lies of love
I can't even begin to tell you how much this song has touched me!!! I write poetry and I play the guitar a bit but I can't seem to combine the two.... you on the other hand... wow!!!
Had this song stuck in my head the last time I was stuck in the hospital. So beyond beautiful how you have articulated the depth to being abandoned in an institution. Can't listen without crying. I hope you know you aren't forgotten Rusty. Your music and your spirit, I can only imagine how much it has helped so many people. I know how much it's helped me
Holy shit, I’ve never heard a song that so brilliantly describes the pain of social isolation. Thank you so much man for giving me something I can relate to. Sent me to tears.
If i close my eyes listening to this song i picture myself being a minor who ran away from his hometown to find greater things but after becoming broke down and penniless i wind up working in the tunnels for long days on end writing old friends back at that old town as its the only thing keeping me sane while i go through my routine barely scraping by but having just enough for the essential, cigarrettes, rye and steak that i have every night. Just thinking out loud
Fprgot to add, i also got into a stupid bar fight with the man whp stole my girl and he had a brother on the force who planted a murder weapon on me so ive been sentenced to life in jail, as the days blend together the only thing i can look forward to is those letters
i've cried to this song many times. it is very dear to me; i just wanted to leave this comment to tell you how much i appreciate this song and your newer guillotine videos aswell.
Attorney: Yeah, you got a good case. This will be easy! Me: I write my mother a letter and hope she sends me her grace. -later- Attorney: You couldn't pull bail and we lost in the case. Oh and you got a year plus sentence.

Sometimes, I wish that I could go back .and just lose contact with everyone ... And ,start fresh after . If it wasn't for my kids , I'd be gone .
First heard this song when I was just a boy at 13, now I'm 18 closer to 19 and after seeing some of what life has to offer, loss, guilt, regret, joy. This song hit so much different. Thanks for helping man, it's good to hear music to relate to :,,)
As a person who has had an inner battle with themselves trying to figure out if I should reach out to old friends, do it. Especially during this pandemic. If they're your friends, your true friends, they'll work things out with you. Because they love you.
I played this on an old piano that was whey out off tune. For some reason it sounded great nonetheless. It's almost like the character of the piano added to the song.
Another amazing song rusty. Glad you decided this song was worthy to be made into a video. I read the description saying you wrote it last year. So you are back to composing music but, not lyrics. I'll take what I get. Yet again, great song.
So glad to hear man. I can promise you one thing. I will be buying your albums at two times their asking price just like I did last time I bought blues, gospels, and what have you's and heretics. Fuckin aye this makes me excited. You need to make a poster of your symbol and offer it on band camp. I know postage can be difficult for round items but, I would love one(signed even better).
I love your real music, & every thing that you do... it’s kinda weird but i don’t know why your music helps my depression, I feel that you singing about sadness makes me happy and I think about all the others who you help with your music, it kinda makes you & your subscribers are the closest thing to family of which some of us just don’t have... I wish I could play instruments & write songs such like you and in that rhythmic BobDylan-like yet rock style... ...Anyways You keep doing what your doing, and we all need some form of loving embrace...
i love this song so much. His style is so unique. The way he handled both instrument is phenomenal and his voice is freaking amazing. Well done Rusty you made a beautiful piece of art
This song brought back so many deployment feelings. Thanks @Rustycage for giving me a reminder of the best and worst time of my life. It's bittersweet but I appreciate it.
do you genuinely wish for a loving embrace? If yes, I love hugs, I'd happily give you one if I ever met you. I'm guessing that if no, the reason why you wrote it is probably just for the purpose of this song. Still, I love hugs, I'll wait patiently
you really have what it takes. this really got to me. ive got that feeling stuck in my throat and my heart stings. this is beautiful, really. i love your music.
This song really helps me. I'm astranged from my dad's side of the family because they didn't want my mom to have me. He's like the modern Bob Dylan, but a Bob Dylan that actually makes sense. He's a mix of a lot of different people. Probably Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Billy Joel and a few others.
Im not going to lie, at first I thought you just did funny/novelty songs. But I’ve just gone through a bunch of your catalogue and you’re a genuinely brilliant singer and songwriter. I love multi-instrumentalists of this style, genuinely amazing stuff man. Just bought your comic as well. Cheers bro
As someone who worries this is gonna be me after HS(not actually in prison, but using that as a metaphor for feeling locked inside of/trapped in my house & a failure), this song resonates with me. Because I know this will be me, be us all really. In this new interconnected age we all follow each other on social media, and we all have each other’s phone numbers, but how many people who you follow, or for whom you have contact info, do you actually reach out to from the past? It’s ironic isn’t it, the closer we became with technology the more separated we became as a people. Anyone who read this whole thing, thanks for sitting through my sermon/rant. I wish you all a good day, and best of luck with all your pursuits and endeavors.
This is me, except I didn't have the technology while everyone else did, so when I finally got a phone, I had a few months to add as many people as I could. Even if I can't hang out with them anymore, it's comforting knowing that they're just a call away. Plus, reaching out is pretty easy. All you need to do is make sure that they'll respond. For all you know, they could also just be waiting on someone reaching out to them.
Wow, you are back, Rusty. Glad to see you more frequently on RUclips again, that's what we all needed after that rather long break of yours. I really enjoyed this song and its melancholic lyrics. Is there a Studio Version of it coming up for us to enjoy?
