This video is so well done, comes right to the point and does not waste time! I commented already (below) but then I thought that I should try the suggestion here presented and see if my coffee could even be better. Yes indeed it is and I am very grateful! Thank you so much!
Ive been using this trick for about a year now, and it really works. However, I did find that it didn't make a great cup, if using pre-ground coffee like Folgers or Maxwell House. But if I grind my own beans, a bit finer than the two forementioned brands, it makes an excellent cup of coffee. Besides that, freshly ground beans make a big difference overall, imho...
I grind my coffee also and it makes a much better cup of coffee than the store ground. However, if you use 4oz of store ground coffee, you can come mighty close.
Thanks for the tip....this makes a perfect cup of my favorite brand of coffee and it is much cheaper. I also feel like I am not filling up landfills with plastic.
Wow! I literally sat there with my mouth open when you demonstrated the difference with the water! Genius! Thanks so much for posting this. I will definitely be trying this trick! 👍👍👍
I was searching for instructions on how to use this thing and happened upon your video. I'm so glad I did! I haven't used the my cup before and I would've been disappointed had I not seen your video first! Thanks!!
I've noticed that the coffee always seems weaker when using the My Cup. Never quite understood why as I had gotten this Keurig machine just a month ago. This all makes perfect sense and I can't wait to try it! Thank you so much for making this video.
Great contribution to the Kingdom of the Frugal. Just be sure to clean and dry it well after each use, especially if it's going to be a while before you brew another cup. The dark, moist spaces within the assembly is perfect environment for mold, mildew and other nasty things to grow in. Party one, one cheap cup of coffee at a time.
I am SO excited to try this! I just got a Keurig 2 days ago, and was sorely disappointed with the coffee made using the My K-cup. I already troubleshot how to fix it from spraying water all over the place while it's brewing (just pulled down the gasket on the inside of the lid a little!) but the coffee i've made so far is weak and watered down. thanks so much for this!
Good thought but this method sends coffee water spraying all over the place and most of the water seems to shoot out of the sides indicating to me that this water is not really brewing either. Any additional hacks for that?
I just bought a Keurig today and had the exact same complaint and was looking for a solution. Thank you very much for this idea! I can't wait to try it in the morning.
I had been doing this but I didn't know to put the black screen back in to the trimmed K cup.The plastic K cup is hard to get out after a brew.Thank you.I have to replace my filter in my K cup model then found out they had a model with one you can take out and simply wash so if I want one cup I simply use a one cup maker and us my K cup to measure each cup and save my K cup machine for K cups only hey,it saves money. The amount of coffee in each K cup is a lot of coffee per cup and strong I have gotten so used to this that my husbands coffee tastes weak to me.I have to have to drink a strong cup now. Thank you now I know the proper way to reuse my K cups.I have my pocket knife and it works great to trip the K cup with.
Great! I'm glad I found this! I started using the my cup thing a few weeks ago also grinding my own beans. But I haven't been happy with the cup of coffee. Gonna try it!
Thanks for this video mike. After reading the negative reviews on the K Cup Refill we weren't going to buy one. But now we will using your fix. We appreciate it.
Worked great-- I couldn't tell the difference between the K-Cup and My Cup with this method. I really hate throwing out K-Cups daily so this is awesome. Thank you!
yes you have a very smart idea. clever. its no coincidence that my cup coffee runs out like a faucet. and gets u weaker coffee. I tried putting a small piece of a paper towel at the bottom of my cup to filter it also. it ususally over flows cuz it slows the brewing really slowly thanks again for the tips I'll try it good luck take care
You are the man! RUclips comes through again, as this was the specific reason for looking this up. So tired of that watered down brew in the morning! Can't wait to try this out- Thanks Mike!
Great idea and thanks for sharing. We will certainly be trying your idea out. We heard from friends, trying the mykup, they had the exact same problem as you described - so we will be letting them know your idea. Thanks for posting!
The key is in the coffee ground size. To get a good cup you need a smaller size grind, close to (but not the same size as) espresso. That's all you need.
@@nooksak1 I understand the fine grind size, but how MUCH coffee do you put in for what size cup? (6, 8, or 10-ounce) I'm really having trouble with my refillable K-Cup (too weak) so I'm very eager to hear your answers.
Before I clicked on this video, I was trying to figure out a way to lessen the filter surface area of my eko-cup reusable to avoid all that quick water run-through. Having tried this now, I have to say that I'm fairly impressed by the end product. The clarity compared to a slow-drip machine is still way off, but I suppose adding an additional paper filter would fix that if I cared enough about filmy residue. Thanks for the idea, man.
Dude! What an awesome video. I just bought mine, and it's not a Keurig, it's an "Oster", but takes the "k-cup" filters. I bought the "My K-Cup", and tried my 1st cup of coffee today using just Foldgers, and yuck, it was weak, so I tried more coffee, and Yuck, still weak. I'm going to try this method and get back to you. Thank you so much for making a simple and clear video.
You took the paper filter out of the K-Cup along with another filter looking thing. Can a paper filter be used in your application. The filter being placed inside of the My K-Cup reusable filter?
i tried this, yes it works... finally, I just ground my coffee to fine and now I use MUCH LESS coffee AND it is nice and rich, literally perfect, and i'm a hard to please coffee drinker... thanks for the video!
I just received my new Keurig *one cup* coffee maker and the *my cup filter* delivers a perfectly brewed cup of coffee, hot and STRONG. I could not be happier! So maybe the new K cup filters are different now.I am very picky about coffee and this coffee taste as if I had purchased it at Starbucks. I used the Starbuck X-mas blend and I am in coffee heaven! Maybe it depends on the brand of coffee one buys!
Thank you so very much for this video it was so helpful...I just now tried it and it works wonderful! You are one smart man, I wish I would have thought of that years ago it would have saved me a lot of money.
Ok, I did the trick, and I'm actually enjoying a decent cup of coffee. Thanks for the tip. I tried another method before that was ok as well, it tells to fill the filter basket "almost" to the top, leave about 1/8 airspace from the rim of the filter. It worked ok too, but wastes more coffee than this trick. I'm sticking with your method pal! Once again Thanks a million! (Cups of coffee) ;)
Very ingenious. I usually get black sludge at the bottom of my mug when I use the reusable cup. Could it be related to that or has anyone had that problem?
Wow, thank you!!! I've always wanted a Keurig but never got around to get one yet but my son gave me one that he was using for awhile because he got another model... the one that he gave me is a B140...so, this k-cup will work?
I use the my cup with folgers, yuban, etc. and a problem I am having is twofold; It flows really slow, and does not fill the cup all the way, the decalcify light comes on everyday using my own coffee. I run plain water through it but the light comes on again within brewing 2 cups of coffee. If I use K cups, it brews fine flows good and fills all the way.
My filter basket is too tall to fit with the shell of the k-cup and the filter basket inside the replacement coffee filter? Which reusable replacement filter should I get?
♫ Every hack on you tube of these machines seem unnecessary to me other than the thrill of the hack for that person BUT this one is the best hack and the only one I have tried and it works...thanks ♫
I will give this a try, I was thinking it seemed ineffective how it had so much mesh surface for the water to flow, I don't think a K-Cup actually uses as much grind as you do in the My-Cup. I use this thing a lot too, I am on my second My-Cup as I wore off the bayonet tabs that hold the top on. But I bet you could get a better cup using less coffee this way.
I never have had that problem. It could be a defective pump sucking in air bubbles which are causing the splashing. I'm assuming your mug is high up and close to where the coffee dispenses. I would call customer service and ask them about this issue.
Hm. I tuned in because our My K-cup just dribbles the coffee through and takes longer to fill a mug than a full pot would fill in an automatic drip. I wonder if it's due to lack of pressure. Going to try this out. And, I don't think it's any accident either…
It ran better for me. It took 2 runs to get a full big mug. And, the flavor was much better. My wife said she had to run hers 4 times to get a full mug, but said flavor was better.
Works perfect, awesome idea! Is there an easier way to clean out the my-cup filter after brewing? I can't seem to figure out a way that isn't really a pain.
After dumping the used grounds into the trash, I put the My-Cup (and othe refillable K-Cups) under my kitchen sink faucet, running the water inside and out. THEN, I use the sprayer at my kitchen sink to spray out all the remaining grounds. Works great. Every once in a while, I'll run it through the dishwasher, too (not the cap).
DAM those Keurig guys....but this video saved the day. I am the winner now!! Keurig process almost like French Press coffee. Thanks again...Drip Grind coffee not the fine grind or you get hardly any coffee.
You know I have one of these, and used it in the beginning of my Keurig adventure as my favourite coffee is still Dunkin Doughnuts and their K-cups are way too expensive for my budget on a regular basis. The convenience of the K-cups though is a real time saver and so I have been using either Tim Horton's (now available at Bed Bath & Beyond) or Diedrich Morning Edition Coffee. Started thinking last night and wondered who to write about my thoughts, and then saw your video while googling around. I am going to try your idea which sounds wonderful, but what I really wish, is that someone would manufacture miniature disposable coffee filters just like the big ones for filter coffee makers, for the my k-cup filter and that would solve the problem for sure. K-cup makers might not be happy, but oh well... all's fair in love and coffee making. :)

Thanks again :)
luvtodance2 Check Amazon, there are several kinds of K-cup paper filters. You can also buy them on eBay, and Wal-Mart sells the Melitta filters as well, (at least mine does).
By now, you've probably seen the many one-time paper filters for the refillable K-Cups. I prefer the Ekobrew brand: amzn.to/3cCgkDJ Has the refillable worked for you? How much coffee do you put in to make what size cup?
Good idea if you have that my k-cup thing. I reuse my k-cups that I purchases and put tin foil on the top and it works well. I also had plastic covers but can't find them anymore so I will just use the tin foil. Until they show up sometime in the future. But if I get a my k-cup thing I will surely use your idea.
they did not show that you need to pull the tab from the punched hole so it does not melt back in place we have used this Technic for over 7 years and have never had any trouble.
How many times can you use the "used" k-cup inside the My K-Cup? There has to be a point where the plastic becomes heated too often and unsafe...? Love this idea though, and agree - probably no accident My K-Cups don't taste as good as the regular k-cups ;-)
+Steve Small don't cut as much of the top of the used k cup as he did the top should be almost almost level with the top of the cartilage it may take a few times to get it just right but worth it ,makes a real good cup of coffee
You might also want to try a finer grind of coffee (without the plastic cup) to create the required pressure - this is how the higher end espresso machines work. Tell your coffee supplier you want an espresso grind, and make sure they are good quality beans and fresh (no older than a couple of weeks.)
Has anyone had the problem of the beverage splashing out of their mug as it is pouring from the machine? I just got my Keurig yesterday and tried it tonight and ran the water through a few times to see if it would clear the pour spout thing to stop the splashes [didn't work] and then I tried a tea k-cup thinking maybe the water would pour a little slower, thereby reducing the splashes, but even that didn't work. Any suggestions?
i only like dunkin doughnuts coffee and there k cups are expensive so i use the ground and i have noticed the difference in weak taste this is a great tip im gonna try it right now ....yea!!!
