  • As always, just a short DIY tutorial on how to change rear brake discs and pads on your BMW. This took about an hour per side, not a hard job to do in your drive way.
    You will need:
    - discs and pads
    - new wear sensor
    - preferably new bolts, springs
    - copper grease, silicon grease
    - wire brush
    - brake cleaner spray
    - 17mm socket for the lug bolts - 120 Nm torque
    - Hex 6mm for the set screw (dics to hub) - 16 Nm torque
    - Hex 7mm for the slide pins - 30 Nm torque
    - 18mm socket for the carrier bolts - 67 Nm torque
    - torque wrench, normal wrench
    - bungee cord to hang the calipper
    - super solid floor jack - preferably jack stands
Careful: after replacing your brakes, you need to allow some time for everything to settle. It takes 100-200 km of light braking. Try to avoid hard braking.
Be careful when lifting the car up and working underneath it. It can kill you if you mess it up. I am NOT a professional, so do this at your own risk.
Take care and let me know if you have any questions.
