  • In the blink of an eye, France is already into the final days of campaigning; a speed-dating exercise that has got the far right more than ever knocking on the doors of power. Polls suggest that Emmanuel Macron’s surprise decision to dissolve parliament just two weeks ago has not sparked a rethink. On the contrary, Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella continue to carry the momentum from their record tally at European elections earlier this month.

The majority of people who voted for Brexit knew it would damage the economy. Farage and Johnson said that. What no one could say for sure was by how much and for how long. As one leading Brexiteer said in a discussion at the time - not everything is about money. The middle classes who were much more supportive of remain are obsessed with their little pot of cash. People who have nothing to start with are not.

Spiteful attempts to punish Britain from butt hurt EU members hasn’t helped, but many more internal reforms within GB still need to occur, and increased cooperation with EU can occur in the future, but EU needs serious reforms also.

Financial Times were/are biased. Brexit was ALL about SOVEREIGNTY, not economics. About the UK Parliament taking back control and being supreme.
Only 4% of British companies exported to the EU. If they lost then sad but not for the 96% of companies that didn't. 🇬🇧

    • @momo8200

Only 4% of UK companies may have exported to the EU, but that 4% represents at least 42% of all exports. It is primarily by exports that countries earn the foreign exchange needed to support their economies and guess what if you want to export to countries you have to follow the rules and standards of that particular country in order to sell to them. Countries have to follow agreed upon rules for trade, investment and in many other areas of cooperation. Unless you want the UK to be a hermit kingdom akin to North Korea.

UK trade with the EU was in decline and remains so, and the EU as a market is declining year on year.

They are not far right though, unlike the “far left” in France , who includes communists lol……None of the “far right” parties have any explicit violent or disruptive policies, which the far right of the ‘30s in Europe DID…so nobody is far right they are just nationalist, which even left wing parties are in a lot of countries….

If I was Macron, I woukd read the results of the EU elections (and the polls) as - the people want me to turn Right. He should change his campaign and his policies accordingly. He should announce to the people that he understands the message.
    I prefer a more-right-leaning Macron to NR.
