      If the prophet likes a woman her husband must divorce her so that the prophet can have her.

      Ayat / Verse: 50.

      Tafsir Al-Qortoby:
      King Saud University: The experts at translating and interpreting the Quran.
      Privilege given to the Prophet:
      1. الأول : صفي المغنم
      The BEST of the booty goes to prophet.
      2. الثاني : الاستبداد بخمس الخمس أو الخمس
      Take a fifth of all the spoils.
      3. الثالث : الوصال
      Al Wasl (Continuing the fast through the night to the next night, without eating).
      4. الرابع : الزيادة على أربع نسوة
      More than four wives.
      5. الخامس : النكاح بلفظ الهبة
      Marry a woman that offered her self.
      6. السادس : النكاح بغير ولي
      Marry a woman without the presence (or permission) of a legal guardian.
      7. السابع : النكاح بغير صداق
      Marriage without payment.
      8. الثامن : نكاحه في حالة الإحرام
      Marry (and have intercourse) during a state of ritual consecration and purification.
      9. التاسع : سقوط القسم بين الأزواج عنه ، وسيأتي
      The annulment of oath the prophet may make to his wives.
      10. العاشر : إذا وقع بصره على امرأة وجب على زوجها طلاقها ، وحل له نكاحها . قال ابن العربي : هكذا قال إمام الحرمين ، وقد مضى ما للعلماء في قصة زيد من هذا المعنى.
      If his (prophet) eyesight falls on a woman, her husband must divorce her, and her marriage is permissible for him. Ibn al-Arabi said: This is what the Imam of the Two Holy Sanctuaries said, and what has passed for the scholars in the story of Zaid of this meaning.
      11. الحادي عشر : أنه أعتق صفية وجعل عتقها صداقها
      Release Safiyyah (from her captured status) and he consider her release as her dowry;
      12. الثاني عشر : دخول مكة بغير إحرام ، وفي حقنا فيه اختلاف
      Entering Makkah without entering ihram.
      13. الثالث عشر : القتال بمكة
      Fighting in Makkah.
      14. الرابع عشر : أنه لا يورث . وإنما ذكر هذا في قسم التحليل لأن الرجل إذا قارب الموت بالمرض زال عنه أكثر ملكه ، ولم يبق له إلا الثلث خالصا ، وبقي ملك رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم على ما تقرر بيانه في آية المواريث ، وسورة ( مريم ) بيانه أيضا.
      That he is not inherited by anyone at all. This was mentioned in the oath of absolution for when a man approaches death due to illness, most of his possessions are taken away, so that he does not have more than a third left for him. But the possessions of the prophet remained for him, as stated in the verse of inheritance and in Surat Mariam;
      15. الخامس عشر : بقاء زوجيته من بعد الموت .
      His marriage is still considered effective after his death (ALL his wives can NOT re-marry anyone else after his death. EXAMPLE: Aisha did not marry anyone);
      16. السادس عشر : إذا طلق امرأة تبقى حرمته عليها فلا تنكح . وهذه الأقسام الثلاثة تقدم معظمها مفصلا في مواضعها . وسيأتي إن شاء الله تعالى
      If he divorces a woman she remains prohibited to everyone and may not be married "Nikah," again to someone else.

    Please correct me if I'm wrong here.
    I think I see an interesting parallel in that each religion (a) had a succession crisis upon the death of the original prophet, leading to (b) an original two-way schism between a faction led by the first prophet's direct heir and a faction led by a less closely related member of the group. (c) Both groups survive but the one that stayed "in the family" so to speak is (Church of Christ, Shi'a) is much smaller, while the group led by the charismatic non-relative has grown exponentially (LDS. Sunni).

    Re: Joseph Smith referring to the Muslim text as "the al-Koran": One of the first translations of the book into a Western European language was the 17th c. French translation by André Du Ryer, and he called it "Alcoran." (The title page actually says "L'Alcoran," i.e., the Alcoran.) I know it was really influential on a lot of later translations, including some in English. I'm guessing it was still the normal term in English in the early 19th century, and why Smith used it.

    From my understanding of the doctrine of the trinity is confusing for the way we think about 'beings' on earth. But trinitarians believe the nature of God must be outside of what a 'person' is as a human. The concept of the trinity is that God is one being, one God, but 3 persons. Not just 3 different modes and not 3 different beings. And not persons as in human bodies. But unique personalities/functions/roles. But one character, one divine nature.
    Trinitarian doctrine sees the Bible describing God as Spirit and all 3 persons of God existed always. Jesus humbled himself by coming into a human body. Is not bound to that body, and he didn't have to be limited by a human body, but he chose to enter humanity for direct connection with humanity. We believe the roles of the 3 persons are different but equal, and the roles reflect the relational aspects of God, and also his full sufficiency in himself. Therefore, no need for a heavenly mother to create. It is a concept that sounds so supernatural. But isn't the idea of God supernatural already? So they take what the Bible says and interpret that to best of their ability based on scholarship throughout history combined with all the 1000s of manuscripts that have been found. It supports the idea that the nature of God being God in the way they see a true God would be, there couldn't be more gods than him. He deserves all the glory and control bc He's the Creator and beyond any finite thing we can understand. This is just from my understanding of the doctrine.

    My shelf started to crash when, for curiosity, I started to try understand what Muslims believe. I heard what some people had to complain about the religion, and started to think Muslims where way too conservative for wanting their children to only get married to other muslims... then I was like "Wait! We do that too... 👀"
    That made me think "I don't have to hear only the critics, I need to hear what muslims have to say, they are the ones who really know their religion. Just like us mormons"
    That's when I caught my thinking about the woman with all that clothing and was wondering how could they do that, even when it's hot outside. So I watched a video of a muslim girl talking about their clothing, and how sacred it is for muslim women. She pointed out that people think it is a burden, but for them it's a privilege... So I thought "Oh, I get it! It's like our garments..." and the shock came... mormon garments are like muslim clothing, and people that are not mormon think they are weird, just like we think it's weird that muslim women cover themselves like that, even when it's very hot outside 👀
    Realizing all this was the first crack on my shelf.

      I'm sorry but this is one of the mildest things Muslims do. I don't see Christians murdering their own children for leaving the religion on the regular. the worst I've seen is being disowned and even that's even rarer than being murdered on the Muslim end.
      You won't even believe the amount of Palestinians that get Asylum in Israel for fear of their lives after leaving Islam. I've personally known 3 of them and 1 of them was kidnapped FROM Israel and murdered by her own family. they just aren't safe in Israel because it's too easy to get work permits and enter so this is usually a temporary step for them to get asylum in the west. Imagine how demented you have to be to launch a headhunt for your own family/community member
      ALL of them were chased by their family and community.

    The similarities aren't coincidental. Late colonial and early constitutional era Americans, especially the well-to-do educated folks, were kinda obsessed with Islam, particularly the Ottoman Empire; you can totally detect it in the Masonic lodges from that time and going forward to today. It was a very Orientalist, "mysteries of the East" thing. No surprise if young Jo-Jo Smith read a bad synopsis of the Quran written by some powdered wig dude and built his new religion on that skeleton.

    So many major Christian denominations as well as the Catholic church, and even JW, Mormons, and other Christian off-shoots have a hierarchy ranging from volunteers at the lowest level to highly paid leadership at the top. Because this seems so normal for Christians, its no wonder that many Christians typically fall for MLM schemes. This also includes Scientology that also has a hierarchical structure. Some Amish and Mennonite churches also have a similar structure. It really makes you wonder if religion in general has been used to corrupt since its inception, but also give order and structure to a complex world that by nature lacks order and structure.

      I think when it comes to Christianity especially as someone who grew up Christian, we've never recognised a lot of those "denominations" as Christians😅 They've been described as heretics. This includes Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, Church of Scientology, Jehovah witness, (idk if you've heard of it) the Zion Christian Church and Unitarian Christians. Even these big mega churches are full of heretics. Any "denomination" that adds or takes away from the bible and twists the message to benefit them is a heretic. The Bible doesn't point to us it points to Jesus. This is why, as corny as it sounds, every real Christian will always says "All glory be to God" despite their situation because we genuinely believe that everything points to God. They tie themselves to Christian but they are NOTHING like Jesus or the early church.

    The parallels between these two religions are super interesting, thank you so much for doing this collaboration. The similarities between Muhammed and Joseph Smith in particular are striking: a relative nobody claiming to receive secret revelations from an angel, professing prophethood and a mission to restore the one true religion, blatant retcons of the tanakh that make the prophet’s people more important than the jews, convenient “revelations” that let the prophet have whatever he wants, using prophethood to amass women and political power, followers using violence, establishing a theocratic state with strict rules governing dress and diet…
    The main difference is that with Joseph Smith, we have records from contemporaries who saw through the con.

    I think the corruption started with people getting involved in religion itself, with the idea of trying to understand God by confining him to books or principles. When people tried to align God with their own desires, everything went wrong.
    If God exists, I don't think anyone would have authority to talk to him or hear from him. I mean what criteria would that perdon meets. The mere thought that he is a men, of a certain race and culture. Says he is prejudiced because with that comes favoritism.

    The best explanaton I ever heard of the Christian trinity is this. A man found a rough pottery bowl and placed three drops of water in it. The drops clung to the side of the bowl, each drop representing the holy spirit, the Father, and his son, Jesus respectively. The man shook the bowl and the three drops joined at the bottom of the bowl. How was one to tell where one aspect of the trinity began and where it ended?

    Aladdin says that Islam doesn't have much esteem for Mary, but she does have some significance. Mary is the only woman mentioned by name in the Qur'an. In fact, Arabic often refers to people as "ibn ___" (son of ___), and Jesus is referred to as "Isa ibn Maryam", or "Jesus, son of Mary", which is incredibly rare to use the mother's name and not the father's. The Qur'an also has a much different birth story for Jesus than in the Bible, which is in Surat Maryam, or "The Chapter of Mary". Still, this was a great conversation!
