    • @hubrisnaut
      @hubrisnaut 4 года назад

      @@zumbazumba1 There is plenty of information on the internet about making the more stable stable potassium perchlorate with an electrolytic cell. To make potassium nitrate you would have to make nitric acid from concentrated ammonia first. Not easy but it can be done with the right lab equipment. You can also make it in traditional ways by using animal dung or urine. Under the right conditions, the precursor can potentially be collected from aged farm animal urine and dung leavings and from bat or bird guano. The Wikipedia entry on it has a good overview of the various processes. All that said, you could just buy it in small amounts for use in hobby rockets.

    I played around with the sugar one quite a bit as a kid, what you have to do is add some kind of retarding agent to the mix because without it it's just a rocket as you know
    it's a very very fine line between slowing it down enough to actually ignite, and just turning it into a rocket.
    if I recall correctly dextrin what what I ended up using based off some old trials I dug up
    I want to say something like
    10% Dextrin
    50% PN
    25% sucrose
    15% baking soda
    Just a thought, this was at least a decade ago and I honestly don't remember it all too well.

    My griddle couldn't heat the mix enough to caramelize but you can stick water in it and it'll caramelize easier.

    But can you mix them?

    Well then, the obvious question is what happens when you mix the two compounds together.
    The military compound is obviously a lot slower burning and produces much more smoke, so i'd be interested to see what happens, and whether it'll slow down the R-Candy significantly, or produce a massive amount of smoke due to being sped up by the candy.
    Or maybe it'll make something toxic enough to kill everyone downwind.

      Actually the potassium carbonate produced by the rcandy would help to neutralize the acidic smoke from the other

    Not sure if this was on purpose but a bit of a nitpick the SO2 makes sulfurous acid

    Seems like a mix of sugar smoke mix and the acid mix together, maybe 10-20% sugar mix the rest acud mix would be faster (more heat to ignite the acid) and make all that smoke in 20-40 seconds rather than all afternoon
