can we mix fe2o3 + al +cr2o3 to get ruby ?
in theory fe2o3 +al is a thermit reaction and should produce al2o3+fe and a lot of heat .
al2o3 + cr2o3+heat=ruby
Whats next ? How to make a phosgene gas out of kitchen bleach ?
@@zumbazumba1 I miiiiggghhhttt have to pass on that one LOL
@@ElementalMaker It was a joke ,did you do video on how to make a potassium chlorate? Is there a way to make potassium nitrate(Kno3)for sugar rockets at home?
@@zumbazumba1 There is plenty of information on the internet about making the more stable stable potassium perchlorate with an electrolytic cell. To make potassium nitrate you would have to make nitric acid from concentrated ammonia first. Not easy but it can be done with the right lab equipment. You can also make it in traditional ways by using animal dung or urine. Under the right conditions, the precursor can potentially be collected from aged farm animal urine and dung leavings and from bat or bird guano. The Wikipedia entry on it has a good overview of the various processes. All that said, you could just buy it in small amounts for use in hobby rockets.
The military one sounds more like tear gas than a smoke bomb
It felt a bit like it!
They can't shoot us if we gas our own position!
@@sealpiercing8476 tear gas is not that toxic, breath a lung full of this stuff and you are likely to die. It would produce similar effects to phosgene gas. Burn the inside of the lungs producing frothy mucus in which you would drowned.
@@nigeljohnson9820 I agree; I meant gas as in chemical attack, not tear gas.
@@sealpiercing8476 while the effects of tear gas are horrible, I once got a taste of its effects on a visit to Paris during one of their street riots, it is very unlikely to kill you, unless trapped in a very confined space with it or you have an underlying health condition such as COPD.
I love how the neighbors were probably concerned for a second until they realized, "Oh it's just him burning stuff in his backyard again. Honey keep the gas masks handy" XD
The only concern is that the particular neighbor who was interested works for Homeland Security LOL
Add a generous serving of 2,4,6- trichlorophenol to the smoke mix, and it would knock out Corona in its tracks
@Icar-us ooooh trust me I am. The guy is a real power trooper too. Pretty sure he abuses his wife.
ElementalMaker remember it’s 40% of em that get reported and CAUGHT for domestic violence
I love America. Shoot guns and do stuff in your backyard. Freedom.
*steals your toilet paper*
*disappears in a cloud of smoke*
I sometimes forget that I am not watching AvE, your voice is very simmilar and your content looks simmilar.
It's the self healing mat lol
Me too. The voice, laugh, choice of words, camera angle, hands, etc, etc.
He is pretty skookum.
Well, this isn't mechanical AvE, it's chemical AvE
Nice video and with good safety advice :) Adding baking soda to kn/su help to slow down the burning rate and give way more smoke. You can also try adding petroleum ruber chavings to increase the temperature.
Hell yes! I love the archer clip.
One of the greatest shows of all time 😁
When I didn’t even notice loved that show
Want ElementalMaker didn't realize was he just cloud-seeded a forty cubic mile radius ... here comes the rain....
:)
It's raining already where I live O.O
Archer references AND Blowing stuff up? Man i love this channel more and more every day!
WOW! You do some amazing experiments! As soon as i figure out this whole patrion thing I'm definitely going to give what i can to help you keep going with your experiments👍
Thank you so much! 👍
How did I not know about this channel earlier??? You're content is awesome. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed Steve! Thanks for dropping a comment 👍
I've done this and set it off before I went to school and I smelled of popcorn all day
;) FUN FUN FUN!
Lab Notes:
- these chemicals were easier to obtain than TP
- these chemicals also cost a lot less than TP
Two EM RUclipss in a row and BOTH have references to Archer. Wonderful. I think I know what I am streaming this afternoon.
What?
Sugar can cause high-sugar level?
Damn... We learn so much on this channel!
:P
TechIngredients did some impressive examples of rcandy smoke with the addition of waxes
I had made some of the candy stuff with similar results. Then I decided to set off an old military smoke grenade that a family member had brought back from Vietnam which had much better results but smelled oddly similar to the candy smoke. It would be interesting to see you revisit this adding some paraffin and baking soda and something to try to get some color out of it. (My grenade was red and put an impressive stain on the ground)
That's an incredible difference in output volume
4:00
Can confirm, accidently burnt half my scalp while making rocket candy when it went off in my face as a kid
Ooh... That sucks.
I've said it once and I'll say it again. Your voice and showing only your hands and then your laugh. You would be the result of a love child between AvE and Cody's Lab. I do not mean that as an insult at all. You're just as informative as those 2. Your entire demeanor, though, you've got both of them in you and that's awesome!
love your videos. Thanks so much! The second one looks like landing markers
Another interesting sho.! Thanks for sharing!
That was freakin' awesome! This man needs a temperature controlled hotplate of the sort used by chemists, and a mass spectrometer so he can analyze the end products.
I have that same tube of anti-sneeze compound that you have there on the bench. It's lasted a LONG time and a lot of brake jobs.
For the first one, I add a bit of candle was to the mix to slow it down. Helps with melting it too. I reserve a bit without wax to surround the fuse to aid in ignition
when I made the cheap stuff as a boy, me and a friend put it on one of those thermoplastic coated tables at a school... If you ever see a table with a huge melted spot in it. Well I dont know how that happened!
side note, I remember hearing adding a bit of baking soda makes the cheap stuff burn slower. During that previous story, I didnt have a fuse, so i took a bunch of match heads and stuffed them in a mcdonalds straw, worked great!
I remember doing the match heads in a straw trick when I was a kid. I haven't thought about that in well over a decade
Congratulations.... You just made rocket propelled acid rain...... Love it!
One of the newest mixes is with "TA" and can be made from PET. Military grade smoke from water bottles!
I made the same, but only with the sugar and potassium, and it made the same amount of smoke, you don't need all those other chemicals.
My early teen experiments with potassium nitrate and sugar were mostly just powder. It works pretty darn well that way. I was told that once it was lit, it would burn underwater, too. More experiments, please.
good content bro ,im subbed !
I'm supposed to be out buying toilet paper. Instead I learn how to make a smoke screen to conceal myself buying the toilet paper. Good job. Love your videos. Keep them coming.
What is with this insane need for toilet paper? I dont think the virus even causes the Hershey squirts! If you should stock up on anything its potable water and some calorically dense food. Pass me a square I need to wipe.
Looks like a nice slow burn and good for a smoke signal rather than a smoke screen
Well obviously you should mix both together and see what THAT does lol
I was just thinking about something like that. LOL
Just don't make more than a few grams to start out and do some sensitivity tests with it if there are no reports about that particular mixture. Who knows if one chemical catalyses the other reaction, or something like that.
You can get a more uniform burn and quick start with the sugar mix by poking a hole larger than the fuse in the hot mixture, then adding a little Pyrodex in the hole after inserting the fuse.
I dont think NASA will be calling you for the second recipe, not unless they just need a smoke screen again. 😱😂. Great video.
For smoke effect with r-candy you need to add sodium bicarbonate. It slows the burn rate and reduces the temperature.
From the title I thought this would be a gas mask thing for the corona views.
Pleasantly surprised!
It would do no good
You don't even need to heat up the mix. It will work just fine in powder form as long as it is mixed good. Either way just make sure there are no air pockets when filling a container with the finished mix.
I used to make that stuff back ( KNO3 and powdered sugar mix) in the mid 60s... I used a 50/50 mix ( 1 lb sugar/ 1lb KNO3), the cost was 68 cents a pound for finished product.
I still get my kno3 for about 42 cents a pound! But that's definitely a rarity to find nowadays
With the rcandy I usually add some water to the mix, then everything dissolves at a lower temperature. The water evaporates off and doesn't seem to change the way anything burns. And it keeps the mix white in color so you know the sugar hasn't caramelized much if at all. Maybe give it a try.
Mixing paraffin with the rocket candy after you crush it works wonders as well.
Neighbors were probably thinking “What the hell is he do’in...is that asshole burning his trash?” Lol. 👍
You should add a portion or a large portion to the molten mixture to speed up the second reaction, and set it off where there are no people or property around.
"Angry Carmel" I'm fucking dying lol
Just so happen to have ammonium perchlorate, as “thunk” an unopened 5-lb “tin” is plunked on the table. Love the happenstance of your RUclipss.
Pay attention, especially the what "not to do" love it though
"Basically making angry caramel."
Priceless.
When the are thrown they land on their side and typically wouldn't rise quite as fast and could build a little better but that was a cool experiment
Vaporised oil also makes for an excellent smoke screen. Pass cooking oil over a glowing hot wire and you can get think white smoke instantly. There is a risk of the cloud combusting though.
@ElementalMaker I have some "decomissioned" ikaros flares/smoke canisters from life raft recertification. Could you use a couple for fun projects?
Love u dude
Not the weird way
Is that a test tube in your pocket? LOL glad you enjoyed my friend
"Tech ingredients" has a video about this that is worth checking out
Dear god I got a fright when the griddle came out. I thought you were going to do the same with the AP!! lol
I thought you said ‘girdle’. It didn’t work and now my wife is pissed!!! 😂
You can also use smokeless black powder mixed with liquid hardener
A harmless version involves the first two chemicals and wax in proper proportions. The smoke is harmless and extremely thick, it's what's used in coloredcommercial fireworks you buy for kids to play in from a fireworks store. MUCH safer!
That's was great thanks bud, have you tried something safer than the ammonium? Like potassium perchlr maybe?
In the past I've made the Sugar/KNO₃ mix dry with roughly similar performance (for smoke clouds anyways, the burn was slower but that might just be the narrow PVC I used) since I was worried about the reaction starting in the pot. Seems like there's no good reason to cook it if you're not going for rocket fuel.
Maybe a mix like Aquafresh and loose rocks with holes in the sides of the container. Maybe do an impact one. Thanks for the demo.
Electric Spark Gap/Bridgewire Igniter? would be an intresting project
Very nice! haha release the acid rain!
Adding paraffin wax to the r candy mix greatly increases the smoke output and duration :)
I remember making smoke bombs with sugar KNO3 and paraffin wax... The trick is to keep air away from the flame so the smoke doesn't burn too.
I made several of them last fall. I was VERY satisfied with the results.
could you try stump remover powdered mixed with silicone caulking for a smoke bomb? I've been told safe mix with no heating but same great smoke effect. Also was told that outdoor grade paint and stump remover works well. Both recipes call for mix to fully dry or cure before lighting.
I believe that particular military blend is used to mark positions for bomb runs/helo pickups and not used for concealment. Try and make one with color. Green, Blue, Red etc...
@ElementanMaker, Love your videos. Heard some talk though... John Schneider might be looking at suing to get his voice back lol..."YeeeeeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaa!" ;)
Thank you John!
I'm wondering if the plants like surrounding grass will recover.
If you leave the sugar and potassium nitrate as a powder and mix it with parafin wax, you will get a similar burn rate, and a lot more smoke. You would have to play with the ratio of wax.
I believe the composition they replaced it with was zinc and hexachloroethane which produces some pretty toxic smoke.
Yeah it should scare ya. I had gunpowder flash over my hand when i was kid while i was trying to dry it over a hot plate. Nasty burns and scarring that still has a tingle of numbness.
Would like to get a smoke recipe that isn't so toxic though.
Oh man I'm sorry to hear that. Lactose based colored smoke compositions would probably be the least toxic with the most smoke production.
ElementalMaker so powdered creamer. Cool, thanks.
Yeah we all make mistakes, lose finger prints, contemplate doing our own stiches because its 2am and the clinic is closed....
@@nunyabisnass1141 what you mean contemplate? Haha i have glued and stiched myself shut a few times. Stiched a friends chin skin back on too one time.
Is there a way to extend the duration of the sucrose/KNO3 mixture?
Lol that title is excellent 😂
Gotta get past those pesky youtube censors somehow!
@@ElementalMaker yea I get it bud 👍 it's great though lol to be honest I think it is better than "homemade smokescreen" ect and probably more technically accurate 😂
mad genius😂
I wonder how the sugar rocket would perform as a powder instead of a solid?
Fun tip: the perchlorate composition is pretty identical to the fuel mixture in NASA's solid rocket motors
Ah yes I remember learning how to do this back in middle school by reading the anarchists cookbook 😂. I'm probably on a list somewhere for even downloading that book
Unlikely, most of those recipes are bunk and frankly it is a pretty popular book.
@@quoththeraven5631 r/wooosh
@@CuttinChris Yeah no, nice try though.
@@CuttinChris nope
The British Army still uses that composition for screening smoke, though signal smokes are normally used due to it being safer. It has been known for the screening smoke composition youre using to be used to clear out buildings..
Wow very cool to know its still in use! 👍
can you make a video about how to make ammonium perchlorate?
Is that the mix in the old AN-M8 HC smoke grenades? Those things were nasty but they burned longer with lots more smoke.
Those were based on hexachlorethane hence the HC designation, I've been meaning to try that composition! I totally forgot about the HC I bought years ago.
His voice at times reminds me of the Cave Johnson character from the Portal games.
I tried ammonium perchlorate - sulphamic acid smoke composition years ago. It burned faster and produced much thicker smoke. The video can be seen in my channel.
since it burns so slow, it would be interesting to make it into stars and make an "instant" smoke grenade like tanks use
its very sticky so if you get it on your skin it will give you a nasty nasty burn. Proceeds to put it in a paper cup with bare hands XD
I wash my hands with piranha solution and babies tears.
Where do these people get these chemicals like ammonium perchlorate? Like there's a kid that whooped my ass at an amature rocket contest as a kid because he had access to those kinds of more exotic energetic compounds and I've never figured out how people get them.
"Not to mention the health risk but frankly that isn't the first on the list of concern to the military" 100% true.
2 dislikes on the video!? Guess they thought you were blowing smoke up their...
I played around with the sugar one quite a bit as a kid, what you have to do is add some kind of retarding agent to the mix because without it it's just a rocket as you know
it's a very very fine line between slowing it down enough to actually ignite, and just turning it into a rocket.
if I recall correctly dextrin what what I ended up using based off some old trials I dug up
I want to say something like
10% Dextrin
50% PN
25% sucrose
15% baking soda
Just a thought, this was at least a decade ago and I honestly don't remember it all too well.
My griddle couldn't heat the mix enough to caramelize but you can stick water in it and it'll caramelize easier.
But can you mix them?
Well then, the obvious question is what happens when you mix the two compounds together.
The military compound is obviously a lot slower burning and produces much more smoke, so i'd be interested to see what happens, and whether it'll slow down the R-Candy significantly, or produce a massive amount of smoke due to being sped up by the candy.
Or maybe it'll make something toxic enough to kill everyone downwind.
Actually the potassium carbonate produced by the rcandy would help to neutralize the acidic smoke from the other
"Angry caramel" is a way better name for r-candy
Neighbours find their car rusted out in two weeks time 😂
Not sure if this was on purpose but a bit of a nitpick the SO2 makes sulfurous acid
Seems like a mix of sugar smoke mix and the acid mix together, maybe 10-20% sugar mix the rest acud mix would be faster (more heat to ignite the acid) and make all that smoke in 20-40 seconds rather than all afternoon
@Whoop!
good video, but i was slightly concerned by how close you were standing to the acid cloud
Smoke grenade can be made be done with these, it's what I do with that. Add food colouring
Now mix the two?
all the birds in the local area strangely died that day....
