  • The remnants of Ida slammed the tri-state Wednesday night with fatal results, producing historic rainfall amounts that left millions under a flash flooding emergency, and triggering multiple tornado warnings throughout the night - including for New York City.
    Most of New York City is under a Flash Flood Emergency until 11:30 p.m. -- with the National Weather Service urging the 9.1 million at-risk people to seek higher ground.
    "This is the first time we've ever had to issue one," the National Weather Service office that covers the city tweeted of the emergency declaration.

    I am from New Orleans. Currently harboring in Mississippi as it's the only place that has electricity and AC that I can currently access.
    Was watching the news today and I was not only heartbroken for the people of NYC but I was also astounded that this storm was STILL GOING. This storm is stronger than Katrina. Period. We were ready for the flooding down here due to the advanced levee system (but not the power situation. Not even Katrina knocked out the main electrical tower like Ida did).
    This might just be the most powerful storm to hit the US in a century, just like our governor in LA said it would.

      I live on the Northshore, just found out yesterday a barge took out the power supplying my Parish and it will probably be months before power is restored. I'm not sure where you live at in New Orleans, but I heard some neighborhoods in East N.O. were able to have power restored. I don't know which neighborhoods, but if you live in New Orleans East, you may want to check with Entergy.

    • @voteZDLR
      @voteZDLR 3 года назад

      @@alexisfagan9604 Yes they’re talking about the Minoud power plant in East New Orleans, the “controversial” one that cost $160 million and people were questioning if it’s value would be worth it’s I guess ugly appearance (people in New Orleans kind of get freaky about historical accuracy and for instance not even having solar panels in the French Quarter because it’s not “historical”) but that power plant is probably going to be the difference between a few days out of power vs a few weeks if not a month or longer.
      I heard the East ironically enough (which is basically the ghetto in New Orleans) got power back FIRST because of this. And now less than 24 hours later, the French Quarter has power, too. Not because it’s a richer area, necessarily, but because they have underground lines.
      My parents used to live in Mandeville on the Northshore but had moved to Harahan, Jefferson Parish before this. I hadn’t heard about the situation on the Northshore. But we lost a main electrical tower in Jefferson Parish which didn’t even fall during KATRINA. This storm is no joke. My advice honestly is try to go somewhere else if you can, like I did. Ride it out until Entergy resolves it but to their credit they’re getting it back online a lot faster than anyone including myself expected.
