The PMM was at its height during the 80’s. I used to ride my bike to it as a kid and chain it up at the arcade. You could do that back then without anyone stealing it. It had a 2 screen movie theater inside the mall itself where you could get into R rated movies even as a kid. No one cared. It had 2 bookstores, a Woolworths w/ a grille, 2 record stores, Pepperidge Farm store, a Roy Rogers which was always crowded, a McDonald’s, Sal’s Pizza that had great pizza and subs. Weekends you were lucky to get a parking spot. The parking lots just looked like a sea of cars. They used to have an annual antique show that run almost the whole length of the mall downstairs where I was interested in the comic books and football and baseball cards. It was packed with people. During Christmas, when you could say the word, the mall was decorated beautifully with Christmas trees and poinsettias around the fountain.
During the 90’s it went through a refurbishment which I believe was the beginning of the end. A lot of the old guard stores and restaurants were kicked out and the interior of the mall was redesigned. The movie theater was moved outside and expanded which wasn’t bad. They forced restaurants into a food court format by Boscovs. But there was a huge turnover of eating places there. Nothing ever stuck. Also during the 90’s they started busing in the Element from Philadelphia. Shoplifting and car thefts skyrocketed naturally and cops became a common sight. Online shopping in the 2000’s and the stupid lockdown were the final nails in the coffin there. It’s on borrowed time. Sad.
Boscovs is keeping that Mall in existence. You walked through Boscovs and saw how much retail space it has; lots of Seniors shop there during the daytime hours. The carousel has been there for many years. There's a few interesting stores, like the music store @ 2:20. In the "old days" the fountain @ 0:12 would be decorated with tiers/rows of poinsettias (in the shape of an Xmas tree) for Xmas.
The tall building on our left @ 8:54 is probably an office building which I think has been empty for years. The mall owners keep trying to get the OK to redevelop the Mall area into mixed use (residential/retail/office) with no luck. The Pandemic lockdown resulted in a lot of smaller retail businesses in the Mall closing. Some restaurants surrounding the outside of the Mall seem to be doing well. But how many (if any) people dining in those restaurants also go into the Mall??

I grew up in this mall, took my kids to this mall in the early 90's and rode on the Merry-Go-Round many times.
Yes, the Plymouth Meeting Mall is dead, sadly. This place was my youth.
This and the King Of Prussia Plaza (Now the Kop Mall, that's way too expensive to shop at. anymore.)
Now I only walk around inside of it to get my walking exercise.

The Diner pinball was made in the same era as Funhouse and has some really unique art and characters on the playfield. The artist was very famous for amazing artwork, Python Anhgelo. He did the art on several of the best Williams pinball machine.
So glad to see pinball still playing a role in this mall. FunHouse was the first machine I ever owned.
I used to rat around this mall in the late 90s. Worked at chick-fil-a when I was like 14.
From what I’ve heard, this mall is doing okay due to the bigger stores and the Dave & Busters

As a cleaner working for a cleaning company we used to have to make sure the door glass was free of fingerprints and it used to piss me off when the door has push bars there where fingerprints all over the glass and I used think who is the asshole that keep doing it and then at 11.59 I just watched it happen so you’ve just been crowned the asshole .

My two malls as a kid were the Neshaminy Mall & Oxford Valley Mall. I hear both are close to dead. Where I live now in Dallas, North Park Mall is always at full capacity. Towne East Mall is dying but not completely dead.

I was gonna mention Exton mall since I was there and ate at the Mexican restaurant. The only thing hopping there is the Chick fil a and the round 1. Pretty dead. Hope you can review it
I used to live near Exton mall, yeah the round one and Boskovs are the only stores still busy. The Main Streets across the street killed it.

I work at Plymouth Performing Arts Center in the Mall! The Mall itself is dead but PPAC, Legoland and Chick Fil A are bumping.
Was a great mall back in the day. Can still remember when the movie theater was attached to it. The packages in the machine with the nails might have been foam rollers.
I live in the vicinity of Willow Grove, Montgomery, Plymouth Meeting, and King of Prussia Malls. PMM is my favorite.

I used to live 10 minutes up Germantown Pike from that Plymouth Meeting Mall in the early-mid '00's until about 2013. It was in sort of a Renaissance at the time, they were building all sorts of restaurants around it and there was real energy there, though the mall itself still wasn't getting all that traffic there was still more juice going to the mall at that time. 10-15 years later it seems it didn't really take hold like it was looking in 2008-2010. Ah well 😢
This is my mall! I grew up going here. I worked at Sam Goody on the lower level. Now it is FYE. Poor mall. It was once a hot spot for 90s teens in Plymouth Meeting, Conshohocken, and Norristown.

Another mall I go to from time to time and, yes, this is a dead mall…I only go to a few stores when I am there…but, my favorite hoagie shop is near there, Lee’s 👍 Hit me up if you go to do a vid at Springfield Mall…real close to my neck of the woods 👍💯
Great video. I can’t remember when I thought Plymouth Meeting wasn’t a dead mall except when Strawbridge & Clothier department store was there. IKEA. was across the street. Is Dave & Busters still there? Last time I visited it there was a church near the food court. LOL 🎅💁🏻♀️🛍️
Strawbridges closed years ago when Macy's bought them. There was a Macy's in the mall as well, and that closed (now Burlington/DICK'S).
IKEA moved to Conshohocken off Alan Wood Road (near Home Depot) to a larger store. The one at the Plymouth Meeting Mall was actually Store #001 in the USA.
Church on the Mall is still there.

I only go there to take my kids to Legoland and if there is a movie they want to see and we are there then a movie too. I hope they don't close because of Legoland

I'll have to disagree it was bad it closed due to the bug infestation and failed safety inspections...
The military offices were part of the recruiting plan looking for young adults being mallrats and talking them up to enlist. Unfortunately that plan doesn’t work well now when very few young adults are at the malls.

Robots are taking too many human jobs.
While that is true, I still wanna see how good the robot cotton candy is (and no, I'll probably never step foot in that mall....ever...).
Here's a funny story. Target in Marlton has self check outs....They watch you like a hawk, cameras, etc. We opt to have a human check us out. She screwed up and didn't scan half of our shit. I got to the car and said to Christina "shit, $33 was not bad for what we got!" She's like, what? The one set of Phillies Baby Onesies was $28?" We look, and they only scanned the first half of the order (my shit), and her stuff was not rung up....Anyway....Just once, get the Cotton Candy. Don't think of it as that you took the spot of a human doing the cotton candy, you gave $$$ to help save a dying mall, that employs a ton of folks....You're helping keep the mall alive!
