- This is Part #1 of Some of the Stories and Songs of Nimrod Workman & Phylis Sue Boyens. Nimrod died in 1994, and Phylis just died a few days ago in Florida at the age of 62. Nimrod was 99 at death. Both were Accomplished Songwriters in the Folk Music Category, and Both were Accomplished Singers. Phillis Sue Boyens (my wifes Aunt) played Clari Lynn (Loretta Lynn's) Mother in the Movie Coal Miners Daughter- alongside Tommy Lee Jones and Sissy Spacek as Lorretta and Mooney
Nimrod had many awards Including the Heritage Award from President Reagan, and also in some of his last Singing Engagements Appeared for 2 weeks SInging at the Worlds Fair in Knoxville Tenn. Also Appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, and sung once before Queen Elizabeth at New York
Friends and neighbors this is what it's all about. This IS America. These wonderful singers are fading fast and their songs are being put up on dusty shelves and forgotten. How can we know where we're going if we don't know where we've been? God bless these wonderful singers who have gone on, and God bless the ones who are keeping these wonderful old songs alive. You are such a precious treasure.
Actually its not really America.. The singing and style comes from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.. Native America singing would be classified as America.
Thanks
