I think I was born in the wrong era because, I could go back in the woods and live, and fish for my food, I use to fly fishing with my father in law, and I loved it. When you walk down that lane, I am on your shoulder, enjoying every thing you to sir. May god bless, you for everything you do. And, god bless to your family.
MR.JON HALL..I ;AM READING THEZE STORYS..YOU BROUGHT PEOPLE BACK TO A WHERE SO MANY HERE WERE RAISED..NOW..HOW GREAT AND WONDERFULL IS THAT..I TOO COULD HAVE LISTENED FOR ANOTHER HOUR..THANK-YOU AGAIN..FROM A 67 YR OLE MOUNTAIN WOMEN~LOL~BLESSINGS SIR~🙌
He's truly a gentleman anyone would love to call : Dad or grandpa. I hope he has more stories about his life/ childhood he will share with us. Much love & respect to Mr. Day.
“Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful old people are works of art” Charlie you are work of art. We are privileged to get to glimpse into your past and see what hard work and tough love was. Jon Hall you did an exceptional job of capturing this fascinating tale. We need more of these stories!!!
First I'm 70 y old.I lived thru the 50s,I drove old cars, had a paper route,a Draft Card,Bought&sold cars,Dad bought&sold cars, not many late 40s to current havent driven. ANYTIME someone post a video of the 50s someone always tells how we hung blacks&done this or that😡,YES there were bigots and racist,BUT a lot of that talk was not true!. We WORKED and never had time for all they said we done!!. I lived in Indiana, like I said bought cars, off black people,We never had racial issues here that I saw,I went to school w blacks in the city and suburbs after we moved. Most blacks stayed in their own areas. There were stores here called Atlas that sold items they liked it was a biracial store whites went there too.@ least around here we never had many issues,NOW WE DO!,They hate us now!, We have shootings about every night,Racial progress!??... Its horrible!.
Can u imagine any kid today quitting school at a young age and working like Charlie pulling cable thru the forest?? Having to support family with the father sick???? Kids do not know how well they have it today. Thank u Charlie for your story. Really enjoyed it.
My father also had to quit school at an early age. Logging. He went into the services and became a mechanical engineer. My dad could do almost anything!
I completely agree, the only problem is, the people running and fixin to run this country dont necessarily want people like this. They want people to be dependent on the government, not independent. Thats systematic control. Ah and if they can talk you into bein in debt with a cpl banks then that's just a plus.
I gotta tell ya Jon, for seventeen minutes and thirty three seconds I did not think once about virus particles or economics down turns or racial unrest or elections. I listened to Charlie Day's story. Could have listened for another hour. It's good to get out of one's head once in a while and get to know a little bit of another Man's life. Thanks Charlie Day. Thanks Jon Hall. Just plain old good work . . . the both of ya. Bob from Philadelphia
Yes, it is! No cell phones or nothing that life he lives sounds pretty dang good to me rigjt now. Thank you Jon. I've been down that way several times in my lifetime and have friends that are from all over easyern Ky
People that lived in these KY. and TN. mountainsides are raised to be tough. My mother told me lots of stories. She was born 1935 in KY. She said that they had beds made from the corn shucks on the floors. She told me that she could remember looking through the cracks in the floor and seeing their chickens under the house. She talk about all the cold winters growing up on that mountain in Eastern KY. I was raised on a farm we worked so hard for everything. My mother passed away in 2013. She worked so hard to give her 7 children a good life. Then today you have these people using words like white privilege. They all need a wake-up call. It is called hard work!!! I miss you mom.
I'm from the East Coast but my father's from Canada. I don't know why, but he loved Bluegrass music. I'd press my ear up against the speaker to listen like a fool. My grandfather was a machinist for Sun Oil and worked on the battleships that would need repair from the war. He grew apples when he retired, and my brother and I would help in the fall. It was hard work (to me), but worth so much. He was friends with the last chief of the Lenni-Lenape Indians in MD. He was shown where their grave site was, I think among Indians that's sacred ground. Pop-pop was known by everyone around. People would drive from up in PA to buy apples from him. He had brought timber from an old barn in Pennsylvania to build his barn, He had two J Deere tractors, a '50 and '55. He was the hardest worker I knew, and hunted, fished (he was on Field&Stream once for fly-fishing), apple farmed, and was a good example of a man. I honestly think people now-adays have lost their minds. Joe Biden lived near me about 3 miles away. He used to come in a popular restaurant I worked at. Everyone would make a big deal about him "Biden's here!". I was extremely suspicious of him because he seemed like he just loved the attention, but not the people. My girlfriend's family were friends with the Bidens. Her younger brother told me that he "knew that guy was a pedophile when I met him". Biden had lived in the artist community in Arden, Del. It was a strange place, my Dad worked at IBM, and we'd go to the dinner theater there for christmas party. We drove into that place and I got a wierd vibe, I was wondering what in the world we were doing there. A man who lived there, Jay Parker, said that it was an Illuminati center. They used to have rituals in the basement of the dinner theater there. It was a very bad place, the local police were called, and they killed the two officers and called the headquarters and told them "If you want anymore of this, send more policemen". Biden is connected with extremely evil people. This is how it is now-adays, people have lost their minds.
My mom grew up in north Georgia. When you said, see the chickens under the house, I had to laugh. My mom said snow flakes would come through the walls. It was a hard life, but a darn good life full of love and a big family.

I was mesmerized listening to this mans stories. He thought of his growing up life nostalgically, to me it would have been hard, especially for the women. But this man was contented and happy right where he stayed. Such a lovely person.
Mr. Day, I just saw this wonderful video. I lost my dad 35 years ago to cancer. He was 68. I am now 65. My dad always made sure that I knew our family history and roots from the time I was old enough to understand it all, to his passing. I have done the same with my children. My mom had a heart condition and was unable to have children. Mom and dad adopted me when I was 3 months old and they never hid that fact from me. They wanted me to know. As far as I’m concerned, they were my mom and dad and I loved them both very dearly. I know from the bottom of my heart that I am a very blessed person. You remind me so much of my dad. He had a hard life and quit school at the age of 12 years old to go to work because of the death of his dad in the coal mines. My dad hired out in the old CC camps to support his mom and his 3 younger siblings. May God go with you and continue his blessings upon you!
God I miss my mountains Eastern Kentucky we are blessed Had to move for work to Georgetown KY I hate it From Pike county I worked in Harlan coal miner 20 years thank you sir for this make a man cry

My Dad was born in 1920. His Dad had a 20 mule logging team. Dad's Dad passed in 1932 & he was sent to the CCC Then he was Career Military. I was born when my Dad was 55 yo. Dad passed in 2008, I miss him so much. This gentleman reminds me of my Dad a little. THANK YOU for sharing!
Similar to your story. My dad was born in 1919 and had me when he was 48. I grew up listening to all of the great stories and I love the music. Most of the old people at my church are shocked that I know the music their parents knew.
Wish I could have met Charlie Day. My kind of people. I grew up just outside of Chicago and my "Country Family" call me a CITY BOY...I'm a COUNTRY BOY at heart. I just stumbled on this video. Also just poured a nice Kentucky bourbon from my collection after tending to my 92 year old mother. Funny coincidence. Nice way to finish the day listening to his story and sipping on a Willett Family Reserve. Those Kentucky distillers are the best! Wish this short film was longer. God bless you Charlie and your family and everyone out there during these crazy times.
I moved to Lexington from south Florida. Fell in love with the people, met a girl, and never looked back. The girl and i parted ways. Kentucky, i still live there though. You'll never meet, more honest, friendly people.
I grew up a hop , skip n jump from Harlan county ! He was my daddy’s age but the mountain folks didn’t change that much from that generation to mine. The changes came into Appalachia when the mining left. It’s still beautiful country but poor and no industry or opportunity and overcome with drugs ! So so sad !
I appreciate Charlie sharing his story with us while he was living. Too many of these old timers leave these stories with their children, who never share them. Thanks Charlie for sharing it with all of us. Rest in peace! J.D. "Charlie" Day.
Isn't it sad that people like this with the lord, God and family as their foundation and hard work to get the things you want for your family are a dying breed
I lived in Harlan County when I was little. A little spot called Pathfork. We lived on the hillside, right above deadmans curve. I went to Black Star Elementary School. From what I see in the video, things look a lot nicer than what I remember. Still beautiful country though. Some of the best people you'd ever meet in your life, and I was just a toddler. My dad preached at the little baptist church, on the strip there.
I love this story, i remember Charlie Day, and James and Debbie. Charlie Day and my dad, Charlie Collier were friends. Thanks for sharing this story 👍🏻😊
This elderly fellow has been blessed, if any your person could hear this and heed to they could be blessed also,, I’m only 86 years, but I had a different life in Springfield, La, but I ve been blessed also, thank you Jesus.
Your family is so blessed that you made this video. I love the stories my grandparents told me. I'd give anything to have a video of my grandparents telling them since they have passed. I could watch this over and over Mr Day. Your memory is impeccable. You are so charming.
I’d be playing in that creek all day as a kid, if I didn’t have to work hard as you did. I hope you’re getting some R&R now, and only work as you want.
My home in rockholds Ky is built from second hand brick from a old store on Main Street In Harlen! It’s been here since 57’ still standing still decent nice house! Obviously everything else has about been changed but the same brick still stands!
Tomorrow would have been my daddy’s 92 birthday. Wednesday is his 22nd Heaven Day Anniversary. My daddy came from very similar circumstances from St. Joseph , Missouri. I was so blessed to have his older sis, Aunt Gloria show us were he grew up, went to school, deliver telegrams and finally convincing my gram at 15 to let daddy join the USMC. After the end of WW2 he became a Firefighter in central California. He returned to the Corps to go to Korea. When he came home he became a Kern County Fire Fighter. He rose in rank fairly quickly & when he retired after a heart attack he was a Battalion Chief. He proved you could grow up dirt poor ( not realize you were ) and become successful both in his career and his family.
I adore older people they are history alive once they're all gone all of the beauty is faded away God bless America and people like this men and women they live the real American true life a hard life but a wonderful Life learned about all the simple wonderful things in life hard work beautiful things in nature all at once God bless this man and all others like him I can't believe anyone would thumbs down a video about a man like this who worked hard all his life and only knew the simple wonderful things in life unlike most of us today today all kids know our video games and being spoiled by things they do not need technology for the most part is downhill for us
Hi Charlie, my pawpaw and his family were born and raised in Harlan county Kentucky. He met and married my mawmaw Sadie in Harlen then moved to Perry and had their children. They worked the coal mines while living in Kentucky. You remind me of my pawpaw, thank you for the sweet memories.
I was born in Harlan 1942. My family left when I was very young, so I never knew much about it. Thank you Charlie Day for telling me about your life there. Sounds like you are my kind of people
Just got home from a visit to the cemetery, mom's birthday would've been tomorrow. She must be sending me a message. LOL. My mom and dad are from that area. Mom's from Harlan KY and dad's from Gray KY. Mr. Day reminds me of my mom the way she spoke. Sure miss them both. Nice video wish it was longer.
Just watched your story, Charlie.....Totally Wonderful ! GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. I HEREBY OFFICIALLY TELL THE WORLD : “ NOW THERE IS A TRUE, HONEST, FAMILY LOVING COUNTRY BOY ! “ THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO, CHARLIE !!!
I was born and raised i Harrodsburg, Ky until I was 18. Moved to Richmond Va 38 yrs ago. In my drives back and forth I have taken a few drives into southeastern Ky. Love the scenery, enjoy the friendly people. So glad Charlie got to tell his story and so glad someone took the time to film and produce it
Charlie, I see you put this up a year ago. Hope you are still around. You, like me, have tons of memories. Mine start two years before yours---1933 in Elliot Co Ky, 15 miles from Sandy Hook. A little wood frame house on our tobacco farm a mile up Whites Creek. The creek bed was our road. I remember Harlan Co as a rough place to live, like Pike Co. We had trouble keeping a sheriff in Elliot Co, they kept getting shot! Like you, I miss those carefree days when a ride in dads model a was a great thrill. Or a night of possum hunting carrying the lantern. Like you, Charlie, I have far to many memories to let them all go.
My mother is from Harlan County, born in Ages Creek in 1933. Her name is Forstene Smith-Humphrey. Her mother and father watched the fire tower in Putney. Their names was Ed and Sarah Smith. They would climb the tower every day to watch for forest fires. They were there for 26 years. They lived in a log cabin by the tower built by CCC. They're gone now but my mother is still living, she's 86 now. She has so many stories like Charlie's that need to be told. This was great to watch.
Wonderful story of his life. I wished there were more men like him .reminds me of my grandfather. And he's right.if y8u have the lord .you'll have a wonderful simple life.beutyful place.god bless him
The sorry federsl government succeeded in getting mankind away from living off the land and brainwashed folks after the 60's to think that they needed to get a college degree unorder to get ahead in life. All that discuss leave folks in debt with high debt for their college loans. We have ruined our country over the past 70 years since early 1960's.
Always take them time to talk with older folks. They have a lot of great stories and wisdom! You’ll be the better for it! And we all will be in their shoes soon enough!
Charlie I really loved your story. My name is Sheila to. I love hearing about the old times. My dad is gone now he used to set around. Tell us about the good old days. Now my mother has dementia I take care of her. I don't get out much anymore just to take her to doctor. It sure sounds like you had a nice life. I'm so glad u had 68 years with your wife. I wish u many more. God bless
My wife is from Harlan Ky..and I love talking with the older generation down there..they are a rare breed of people ,and I'm glad you made this story so it can be preserved..such a great story..thank you for making this..
Oh Charlie I pray this finds you well because I want to thank you for sharing your heart warming beautiful story of love faith and family. A life we'll lived bravo Charlie that's what it's all about.
Thank you Charlie Day for sharing your awesome life story and all those beautiful places you grew up...yes we have some sad times in life but all the laughter and all Gods good grace always makes us whole again. God Bless you and yours.....
Mister Charlie.....you have a beautiful family and a wonderful life....your story is a breath of fresh air in these troubled times .....thank you for sharing this with us.....i thoroughly enjoyed it.....God has blessed you and will continue to do so I expect.
I was born in Harlan. My daddy worked in the mines in High Splint. We lived in the coal camp there. We had wonderful times too. Not much money, but plenty of love and good times. I wouldn’t trade them.
He sure was a handsome young man. Wow. What a wonderful life. I think country folks have better lives than city folks. I always hated the city. As a child I would read books about people who lived like Mr. Day and his family. I dreamed of living that life, but it just never happened for me.
Wouldn't it be great to listen to this gentleman in person. To walk with him to the places he played and lived would be an absolute pleasure. Thank you Charlie for your story and I'm glad you got to tell it like you wanted to. GOD BLESS.
My momma was born just over the mountain in Rose hill Virginia and the great stories the old timers can tell you are worth there weight in gold. I have been down there a lot in my 55 years and love it in the eastern part of Ky.V.a. and Tenn. Thank you for telling your story sir God has really blessed you threw the years.
Charlie Day passed away in his sleep Aug. 13th 2021. 1 year and 1 day after the passing of his wife Alma Day. I was blessed to have known and loved them. You will be missed Papaw Charlie.
Jon Bonez, I was going to comment to Serviccarrider that it was happening to me now. I have 2 boys, 3 grandchildren, and siblings....but I’m alone, no friends, no one calls, comes by, or invites me. I have a husband, but he’s an alcoholic, when he gets off work sits in his truck on a daily and drinks till he’s falling down drunk or abusive....so I have no husband really. I keep telling myself, I have God and my dog to talk to & protect me.
Well I guess we are in good company even if just for a moment here, 56 here , family gone or far away, friends the same. I do have some great memories but I alone most of my life so memories are bittersweet, the best are from the rockymountains new mexico to Canada, just faded now.
Mr. Day, I've truly enjoyed your story. I'm from Columbia, Kentucky, in Adair county. We grew up on a big old farm, my dad also worked for the county roads driving a road grade. My mother always had a big garden & canned everything she could & only had a wringer washer, & hung the clothes on 2 big clothes line. There was 6 of us kids, so she had 8 people, ( including her & daddy) to wash for & to cook for. There was a creek across the gravel road, we loved going swimming, different places in the creek. I have so many wonderful memories of our childhood. Our daddy died in 1983 & mama in 2001. Best of wishes to you & your family.
What a most beautiful, pleasant, honorable soul... Thank you dearly for taking time to share the life of you and your precious family. God bless you sir and much much love
My Papaw went on to be with the Lord but hearing Charlie Day sure brought back good memories. I could listen to Charlie all day. Sure am glad he got his story down & appreciate y’all sharing. ❤️

@@tlb796 That's awesome!!!
We have tried to become a better society.. With programs to help a family in need so children didn't have to do this
Both of my parents had to quit school to help their parents on their farms. Hard times back in their day.
If only this country had more people like this man!!👍🌲🌱
That's for damn sure. I am 68 years old

I'm sure that he has so many stories I wish I could hear them all
Wish I could have met Charlie Day.
I love this ,I live in Kentucky ,I LOVE KENTUCKY ❤️ and all therein
I moved to Lexington from south Florida. Fell in love with the people, met a girl, and never looked back. The girl and i parted ways. Kentucky, i still live there though. You'll never meet, more honest, friendly people.
I also live in Ky,...I hated it growing up in a small town, there wasn't much to do. However now as I am raising children, I have grown to love it.
So so sad !
I have been so inspired by “Your Story” Charlie Day! America is need of men like you. Thanks for sharing.
👍
So true.
Wow, thank you
I appreciate Charlie sharing his story with us while he was living. Too many of these old timers leave these stories with their children, who never share them. Thanks Charlie for sharing it with all of us. Rest in peace! J.D. "Charlie" Day.
I was born near Harlan in the 1940's. I dearly miss the people and the land of southeastern Kentucky. God bless them all. Thank you for this video.
You related to Huckleberry?
Isn't it sad that people like this with the lord, God and family as their foundation and hard work to get the things you want for your family are a dying breed
Amen!!!💯🙌
Nah we still here you just don’t know us cause where busy trying to take care of our people and maybe fix this messed up world if we can!
@@tammyforbes2101 TRUTH TAMMY~MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY~🤍🙌🤍~

Maybe you imagine eveyone is like yóu and people who are around you. GOD never dies as lives infinity
My x wife was from pathfork and black star she was a lee still have relatives livening there
I love this story, i remember Charlie Day, and James and Debbie. Charlie Day and my dad, Charlie Collier were friends. Thanks for sharing this story 👍🏻😊

A beautiful, wonderful life, that will not be forgotten.
Sometimes I think it's better forgotten. Outsiders don't understand. They pollute the quiet
This type of positive loving human story is what we need today. Thank you both for taking the time to tell your story!
Our pleasure!
Your family is so blessed that you made this video. I love the stories my grandparents told me. I'd give anything to have a video of my grandparents telling them since they have passed. I could watch this over and over Mr Day. Your memory is impeccable. You are so charming.

Charlie is why I’ve come to love the Appalachians. How good is he!!?
He is a great American!! Thank you sir!!
I adore older people they are history alive once they're all gone all of the beauty is faded away God bless America and people like this men and women they live the real American true life a hard life but a wonderful Life learned about all the simple wonderful things in life hard work beautiful things in nature all at once God bless this man and all others like him I can't believe anyone would thumbs down a video about a man like this who worked hard all his life and only knew the simple wonderful things in life unlike most of us today today all kids know our video games and being spoiled by things they do not need technology for the most part is downhill for us
Thanks for sharing this. Charlie is a wonderful soft spoken man, a real family man. This film is like a breath of fresh air.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Charlie is the "real" American spirit. Thank you Jon for this beautiful story. Modern people need this wisdom badly.
I agree, that is why I'm sharing it!!
Sounds like you are my kind of people
This video is just what I needed during these troubling times with our country. Makes me reflect on the simple times of the past.
~🤍🙌🤍~HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR MOM~🤍🌻💐🌼🤍~I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING ADAM~MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILYY~

I could listen to stories like these all day
I was born and raised i Harrodsburg, Ky until I was 18. Moved to Richmond Va 38 yrs ago. In my drives back and forth I have taken a few drives into southeastern Ky. Love the scenery, enjoy the friendly people. So glad Charlie got to tell his story and so glad someone took the time to film and produce it
Yep.
Amazingly wonderful story...GOD is so good
Amen.
Yes indeed!
Thanks for the support!! Yep Charlie is still with us his family are sharing these comments with him. He is so thankful everyone is hearing his story.
Did u know any mauks in Elliott county ? My great grandfather was Roosevelt mauk he lived on route 504 many years ago before he died.
Forstene, what a pretty name!
The tower is still there
Wonderful story of his life. I wished there were more men like him .reminds me of my grandfather. And he's right.if y8u have the lord .you'll have a wonderful simple life.beutyful place.god bless him
Mr.Day people today could learn so much just from hearing you tell how life was when you were growing up.
Yes sir that’s right! They could learn a lot from going outside and enjoying God’s creation like he does too.
Charlie seems like a wonderful person.I love listening to his story.
Hi! Charlie, What A Wonderful Story! About You And your Love ing Family! Very Nice! God bless!

Wonderful, wonderfull story. GOD BLESS YOU.
Thank you so much!
always hated the city.
GOD BLESS.
Frankfort Ky, here Sir..I admire and love your life story....Ky proud..

Charlie Day passed away in his sleep Aug. 13th 2021. 1 year and 1 day after the passing of his wife Alma Day. I was blessed to have known and loved them. You will be missed Papaw Charlie.

Yes they do
A big thank you for sharing your story sir. God bless you
Thanks for listening!!!
Charlie Day, you are a true gentleman and your story brings joy to my heart. Thank you for sharing your wonderful life’s story.
Lucky man. Not just content, but happy. Can you imagine growing old with no family and not so much as a fond memory to look back on? It happens.
@Jon Bonez Sorry to hear that, Jon. You're not alone.
I keep telling myself, I have God and my dog to talk to & protect me.
yes I totally understand, 56 no kids no family. Recently broke my foot and found out no friends.
@Jon Bonez I hear ya same boat
Well I guess we are in good company even if just for a moment here, 56 here , family gone or far away, friends the same. I do have some great memories but I alone most of my life so memories are bittersweet, the best are from the rockymountains new mexico to Canada, just faded now.
A truly grateful man Charlie Day.
You are an awesome soul ,god bless you
Charlie, thank you for telling your life story. I loved hearing about the beautiful life you have walked with the Lord.
You are so welcome
Than you Mr. Day, you brought so many memories of my grandparents stories they used to tell me. God bless you.
And its a very fine story. Thank you
THANK YOU for sharing Your Story, I really enjoyed it. God bless
