For what it's worth that raccoon is a female. Her belly is hairless and you can just make out her teats. Most of the raccoons you see out during the day are pregnant or nursing females.

Great tip! I’ve seen those on Amazon. What length do you recommend?
The one I have is about 23" long and 8" in diameter. It rests on a flange that's fixed to the pole. Raccoons are climbers and there's just no way they can climb something that big around. Squirrels jump however. But, if you hung the baffle so it's top was at least 5 off the ground (along with the feeders at that height too) it could also second as a squirrel deterrent. Of course you have to make sure things aren't close to an overhanging branch, etc. Raccoons seem easier to deter. Squirrels have more options. They can also jump from nearby branches or other structures. @@seeQsView

The baffle needs to be secured so it can't be turned sideways. It's pretty easy to defeat when he can just move it out of his way.

The pole allows him to climb so we placed ducting pipe over the pole then the baffle then the feeder. Not had 1 critter climb in 20yrs it's too big to get arms around.

Aw, all wildlife is like a self supporting circle. Racoons need to eat & drink too. Its just some seeds! Maybe a shallow bowl of water too?
If you look to the left of the feeder and a little ways back you will see a dull gray colored object. That is a watering dish that all kinds of animals and birds use. Thanks for watching.

I actually tried reinforcing the baffle so that it didn't tilt which allowed them to reach around and grab to pull themselves up. Unfortunately they were still able to get up. Haven't seen them actually do it but can see that the feeder is turned around somewhat and the sunflower seeds are lower so know that the upgrade was for naught.

Need to put an electric charge on the pole. That works very well.
Better to never feed the wild animals. Birds have enough food for sustainable living. Just saying. Cruelty to animals is not solving a problem.

the baffle was placed too high, he reached the feeder the same time he was passed the baffle. or just shoot'em...

It doesn’t bother me that they climb the feeder. Most of the raccoons eat the seeds that I spread on the ground or that fall from the feeder when the birds are eating. Thanks for commenting! 😀
