Choko in Australia/chouchou is related to squash, melons and cucumber. Grown widely in Portugal but I’ve rarely seen it in recipes here. Good price and a project over time. Lovely area to live in.
Chuchu fruit in tamil is chow chow we add it in beef stew. It will absorb all beef flavour.
very nice. Move in right away. And maybe its a fairly nice moderate climate all year round too?
In South Africa we call it a chayote or chouchou as well, except that we eat it as a vegetable.
After some homework, I've found that it's from the family of the pumpkin and similar to the tomate, being considered a fruit.
Same in Angola. Same in Jamaica.
We, (Australians) call that "Choko". - "Chayote (previously placed in the obsolete genus Sechium), also known as christophine, mirliton and choko, is an edible plant belonging to the gourd family, Cucurbitaceae. This FRUIT was first cultivated in Mesoamerica between southern Mexico and Honduras.

A member of the "Gourd" family, and sike a cucumber.
Yes, we call it a chayote in Mexican Spanish and English in California. They are delicious.
We call it christophine in the Caribbean
same in France (from Christophe Colomb who bring back it from the Americas)
In Australia that green vegetable is called a choko. They are similar to Zucchini - rather bland!
The outdoor bbq kitchen, you refer to it as a Winter Kitchen? Are we sure it's not a Summer kitchen? I want the heat inside in Winter, not in the yard! Asking for a friend.
It's just a popular name, as fire kitchen is another one to this rooms outside the main house.
