    GOLD! So good!
    1. "I don't think you can schedule that (solitude, prayer, fasting, scripture memorization, etc.) , and if you try to schedule it, you more than likely will fall into a deadened legalism. One of the signs of a healthy use of disciplines is: how you feel when you don't do them. And if you feel guilt, the you need to rethink it. Guilt is not a profitable motivation for the spiritual life."
    2. "Disciplines are like medicines, the ideal condition is that you don't need it. There are not righteousness, but wisdom."
    You need to have a longer calendar--daily, weekly, yearly (considering quote one in mind):
    -->Weekly, half day fast.
    -->Every few months, full day fast.
    -->Every year, three day fast.

    "The disciplines are not righteousness they are wisdom". This quote really reminds me how I don't have to worry about doing things exactly "right", but I do need to do things thoughtfully in genuine submission to God's authority over my life.

    I’ve so enjoyed the series of these videos from Dallas’ visit to tree of life. I’d love it if the others were still posted.

      @@PastorHomebrew Thanks so much! In a Dallas Willard Facebook group I'm a part of, this weekend someone asked about spiritual disciplines for parents of young children and I thought, "I know right where Dallas addressed that exact question!"

    "There are few normal days for anyone in this world." So then what? Dallas responds to this premise and practical question.

    I hope my comment may bless someone who reads this - I studied Cassian and Anthony the Great and the desert fathers for a course at church. What I learned was that by making an effort at prayer from psalms or the Bible or a derivative book every 3-4 hours as St Benedict came to discover keeps you in constant prayer and meditation with God, especially if you also have access to music and solitude and such. Psalm 119 mentions praying 7 times a day, and not legally but lovingly, thankfully. I don’t think the number is magical so long as you drink early and often, rising in the dark everyday before the dawn. This is not my righteousness, it is about Wisdom sitting at your gate waiting for you to take her with you into the market place. This automatically puts me into a mode of the Samaritan looking for creatures to rescue. When you pray without ceasing it causes you to seek the lost. Blessings to you.

    Long before people started writing books on these things Christians thru all ages did these things by the leading of the Holy Spirit.
