    While the intention of the newest car was to save the teams money, in actuality the cost to run the new car is higher than the old COT. Don’t forget the NASCAR controls the contracts and only provides a single approved source for most of the components of the car. NASCAR gets the double dip and the teams have no economic forces to prevent price inflation nor do they have the ability to build their own parts at a less expensive cost.

    So long story short; the France family's greed is actively hurting the sport. Who would've guessed 🤯🤯🤯. The businesses model of NASCAR is horrifically outdated, but nothing substantial ever changes, because the France's continue to profit off of it. And given the clauses that they are trying to push that would grant them charter ownership, it's clear as day that they are taking this opportunity to siphon as much money out of this sport and the teams they exploit. I love this sport so much, and it's painful and sickening to see it being ravaged by the greed of one family who could care less about the sport itself, and only about the money and lavish lifestyle it gives them. This is why familial business is a detriment to society. For all their own problems, Bill France and Bill Jr were at least passionate about racing. I don't want to see a doomsday scenario, but it might have get to that point for the France's to finally wake up and see how fucked this entire situation is

    What you’re proposing with the Players/Drivers Association is seen as a union to NASCAR which they have a history of either completely banning drivers for or just straight up ignoring its existence.

    • @ZVPieGuy
      @ZVPieGuy 3 месяца назад +2

      The problem with a drivers union in NASCAR is that they don't have one entity to bargain with. They can't bargain with NASCAR because they aren't NASCAR employees and the teams aren't going to put together a unified organization to bargain with the drivers. The closest thing you're going to get is the current drivers council which has no real power and just advises NASCAR on what the drivers want.

  • @jc1424

    These cars aren't supposed to be that expensive to build. It's the size of the teams that probably does it. They run so many races, prepare so many cars, have like 100+ jobs... and probably break even with payout and sponsorship combined.

    • @ZVPieGuy
      @ZVPieGuy 3 месяца назад +1

      The next gen car is far more expensive to build than the old car. The cost savings is supposed to come from the fact that the car is more durable and it's the same car at every track, unlike the old car which had different packages for each track, so you don't have to build as many cars. The problem is that the new car was too rigid and drivers were getting hurt so they added more crumple zones and now the cars crumple and are trash when they wreck. So they don't get the cost savings of fewer cars, and the car is more expensive.

  • @daveizdebski

    The problem with NASCAR is that it's buisness model is too similar to soccer in Europe. There's a reason soccer teams rep sponsor logos on their jerseys instead of their own team logo. That's the same with NASCAR. The teams are separate from the sanctioning body so they need sponsors to cover their expenses. The problem with this is that soccer teams around the world make money off ticket sales. NASCAR teams don't make money off ticket sales bc they don't have home arenas, they race at track owned by NASCAR or others.

    • @ZVPieGuy
      @ZVPieGuy 3 месяца назад +2

      That's an incredibly good point I never thought about. Even without any funding from a league, teams in any other sport can at least profit from ticket sales, but NASCAR teams don't have home games that they sell tickets to. They're always playing on the road (literally).

    • @StevenWatters
      @StevenWatters 3 месяца назад +1

      There are sometimes schedule changes at the end of a specific year, if they don't see one track successful enough...
      There can be a possibility where they could promote a local short track, taking All American Speedway (Roseville, CA) for example their developmental series in the ARCA Menards Series are racing at the track cause that's their main go to track on their schedule in October.
      They have some exciting racing at the local short tracks, even S1apSh0es has been talking local short tracks cause, that is where most NASCAR drivers go to build their NASCAR careers, William Sawalich started his career in short tracks, and he's been making a name for himself. You don't see that much when there are simulators of racing on that track, and if we go into another pandemic, another track goes. That's what mainly happened to Myrtle Beach Speedway, they didn't have the money, and resources because, the pandemic ruined it for the track, and iRacing kept the track on there because, people loved the track so much, they would've wished it would've stayed. Imo, NASCAR should start thinking about what the drivers, fans, and teams want, and not what they want. Cause, what they would want, is bullshit. I agree with the statement here.

      Unfortunately we're past the point of no return there. If we get rid of charters, teams boycott, maybe even split and start their own racing series. They won't let go of that capital. It will be the death of the sport
      The best option at this point is for charters to become permanent. And Nascar to run like the NFL and let teams appoint a commissioner. It's the only way fans get back things they want like high HP, No playoffs, No stages etc... Even if that means we're forever at 36 cars (unless they add charters to get to 40-43 cars)

      This is literally impossible, with nascar being a private company , and the drivers being independent contractors, employees of individual race teams.
      You can't have a union against a company , that doesn't employee, you. If that makes sense.
      To counter this however , owners want permanent charters, which would basically make Jim France, a commisioner to the team owners and drivers.
      Both sides are being kind of petty on my opinion..

    • @ZVPieGuy
      @ZVPieGuy 3 месяца назад +2

      @@deliriouswhome1The teams are not being petty. They show up every week and put on a show which makes the France family millions and millions of dollars and in exchange NASCAR doesn't even pay them enough to cover their operating costs.

      @@ZVPieGuy thats why there are sponsors..
      Tracks get 50% of the revenue, teams 40% and nascar gets 10%..
      Nascar is not the employee.. why don't people understand this..
      They sell a charter and that gives a team the right to be represented in nascar..
      How teams are being petty is demanding permanent charters. At the end of the day, its private company ran by the family.
      Nascar and owners have gotten to this point by , splitting thier fanbase, accepting spec racing ..and other multiple decisions made by both nascar and the majority of the owners.

      @@ZVPieGuyI agree, you can't run a car from the manufacturer showroom and/or dealership because...
      1. They don't have the same horsepower as the other car.
      And 2. The manufacturer will discontinue the car if they don't see enough sales, the Camaro even though the car had a whole lot of sales, it dropped, and dropped in sales, so that's the main reason they're discontinuing the Camaro in 2024.
      Not only that but, we have race cars with enhanced safety for specific Motorsports, for a reason cause, that's where the cars go to promote the manufacturer, and the model. GT cars are road courses, Stock Cars, Sprint Car, IndyCar, and Modifieds (SK, Big Block, UMP, Whelen Modifieds) are all ovals, Open Wheel (F1, F2, F3, F4, Formula E) are all road courses. Don't matter where you go, there is going to be the car with the same horsepower as the other car, and if you have the same horsepower will be more exciting racing.

    Dude-you HAVE got to stop talking/thinking like an EMPLOYEE! (19:20 mark) NASCAR "does not have to take care of ANYBODY". No one is "employed" by NASCAR when it comes to the teams & drivers. What the OWNERS must do is STOP RACING WHILE LOSING MONEY-meaning they need to go back to NASCAR and renegotiate a BETTER DEAL or simply WALK AWAY! Maybe even create their own league (Hey Tony!) with a shorter season and finally make $$ in this sport. Remember, some team owners were making SERIOUS money with sponsorships. Phizers deal at $16 million a season comes to mind on the Viagra car...but those days ARE LONG GONE as sponsors are FULLY AWARE of NASCAR's incredibly shrinking audience....
    No ones arm is being twisted to do this! No one MUST RACE!! And NASCAR them selves are at a bad point because there is ZERO CHANCE that they will be able to command the kind of TV deal that is about to be soon finished! The current tanking ratings just do not at all truly command the kind of $$ they got in this last TV deal. Yes the was an increase in the new deal-but those "buyers" will soon realize the folly as ratings, and lack of advertising dollars, will NOT cover what they spent! Good luck getting the majority of the NASCAR audience to watch on streaming! Watch the audience disappear when you ask them to purchase Prime when many NASCAR fans can't afford to watch cable. NASCAR and the France kids/organization is going to have to come to grips with making less $$ because if they don't-they will be making NO DOLLARS!! Because these new partners will not be able to stomach the smaller audience at higher prices...
    Why should the team owners be financing the France family and NASCAR if they themselves are LOSING $$ doing it! Tony Stewart is SPOT ON in getting out of NASCAR under current conditions.
    When I was a commodities broker we used to always say "..."Bulls" and "Bears" MAKE MONEY-Greedy Pigs GET SLAUGHTERED!...". Well NASCAR has demonstrated that it is a bigtime "GREEDY PIG" and its about to get slaughtered! Just like the "employee's" that were celebrating the new "$20 an hour minimum wage for restaurant workers" in California, until they all lost their $12-$15 an hour jobs. Meaning that $12 to $15 an hour is better than NO $$ AN HOUR! In other words NASCAR has been at the trough for far too long and better learn to adapt. They are the "unskilled labor" that do not OWN race cars, nor can they race them. No race teams means NO RACES to make $$ from!
    And there is where the teams REALLY DO have leverage! Yes! NASCAR owns the tracks. But what good are they without race cars on them? Were I a team owner, I might only race certain races, like the WOOD Brothers used to do. Forego the championship which you lose money "chasing" anyway.
    If team owners want things to change, they are going to have to organize and "slaughter the pigs". If not-they have ZERO right to complain about continuing conditions-Crisis is the catalyst for change-They need to "create a crisis" to effect the wanted, and frankly, needed change!

    If there is a lockout, the Daytona 500 will be a shitshow. Nascar could tap a bunch of other racing series to get drivers but without pit crews, crew chiefs, engineers, etc. familiar with the car combined with drivers who've never drove the car, there is no way the race goes well.

    • @ZVPieGuy
      @ZVPieGuy 3 месяца назад +2

      If there's a lockout, NASCAR would be locking out the teams, not the drivers, so there would be no cars for drivers from other series to drive unless NASCAR somehow purchased and enormous shop and hired hundreds of mechanics and engineers to build cars that they field themselves, which would cost them far too much money. What would be more realistic is that they would do the same thing they did when the Talladega strike happened decades ago and they would allow Xfinity and ARCA teams to enter their cars in the race.

    The france family has said multiple times that they think the teams and drivers are disposable, so a Daytona boycott may be the only solution. Theres no way that the teams should be losing money and their arguments about making their money back if they sell is STUPID.

  • @scable-eq7bp

    If there is a lockout at least we will still get to see ARCA, Trucks, and Xfinity Series running Daytona in 2025. Probably what's going to happen is Saudi Arabia ARMCO sports company is going to start a new racing league and offer the team owners and drivers 10 times what they make now, pretty much like they did with the PGA Golf situation. This will force Nascars hand especially if they lose some top teams. The Saudi's could literally buyout the France family and that would probably do away with the charter system...

    So for the charter section, your telling me that the only way for your team to make money is by sponsors?

    • @tarnhold514
      @tarnhold514 3 месяца назад +1

      Essentially yes. Teams have to pay an entry fee to run the race and spend all sorts of money on payroll and materials and whatnot. Due to the revenue ratios from media rights and stuff the teams are absolutely not profitable whatsoever. They need sponsors to come in and pay them to be on their cars so they can hope to make money. But even then they still aren't making money. So essentially what needs to happen is the revenue ratio needs to change so the teams can at least break even. Or else the only other way to make money is to sell your charters entirely.

    • @deliriouswhome1
      @deliriouswhome1 3 месяца назад

      Nascar has always been sponsor driven.. even before charters.
      I don't believe these car owners aren't making profit..
      What I do believe, is they don't think the sponsors, are putting enough money behind ,having thier product on the cars.

    • @tarnhold514
      @tarnhold514 3 месяца назад +2

      @@deliriouswhome1 I also agree with this too. Gone are the days of sponsors paying for a full season on the car. Teams can't charge more either because then no one will sponsor them. Plus you have to factor in the rate small teams can charge versus big teams. But yeah I agree they want more payout to compensate for less sponsor income.

    (I replied to somebody with this, so I just made it a comment) Unfortunately we're past the point of no return here.

  • @maley2552
    @maley2552 3 месяца назад +1

    I had a thought what if Nascar let's the charter system expire to see which teams have the balls to walk-out and then after the 2025 Daytona 500 Nascar signs a new charter deal with the teams that show up. Because Front Row Motorsports has been rumored to be willing to side with Nascar, so maybe Bob Jenkins is hoping to get a 4th charter for free

    As an Indycar fan in addition to NASCAR, I have a bad feeling that this charter situation will end up resulting in a split (like what happened to Indycar in the mid 90's) especially if the teams decide to join something like the CARS Tour which would essentially be the IRL of stock car racing while NASCAR would be CART. However it would be the reverse of the open wheel split in one aspect & that is the fact that NASCAR controls the biggest race in the Daytona 500 & NASCAR could easily shut out the teams that left from participating in that event especially if they introduce something similar to the 25/8 rule. Another effect a NASCAR split could have is that both Indycar & in particular F1 would be to take advantage of the splintered fan base to market their series to those fans.

    Racing has never been really profitable. Teams continuously push the limits of affordability and end up bursting the bubble making the smaller teams have to keep up with the joneses if that makes sense. It happens at the local tracks too. $500 to win street stock race, build $25,000 car and complain about payouts...

      I think they will still try to race and go on with the Daytona 500 but the rest of the season might not happen. The split that IndyCar went through the Indy 500 wasn't actually the first race of the season they had exabitution races before Indy.

  • @shaneclark6993
    @shaneclark6993 3 месяца назад

    They should just agree on an agreed where every team that is has a charter. All those teams must submit all there expenses and NASCAR would pay that. Then what ever profit NASCAR has at the end of the season gets split Teams get 25% tracks get 25% an NASCAR get 40% and all none charter teams would be 10% of nascars profit so that way none charter teams would still make some money. Then all teams would have to do it then get sponsors. And the sponsors would be nothing but pure profit for teams plus the 25%. A salary cap teams but make sure they have what’s needed to race and get to the race. To figure out what the salary cap. In the first year have all 35 charter team summit all expenses. Then take all 35 charter team expenses and divid it by 35 am that would give them there salary cap. Now says team like Gibbs needs to go over that salary cap then what ever there over that comes out of that teams portion of the 25% profit they would get. But at least teams would no matter what profit as that’s what sponsorship on cars if for. So say Fed Ex pays 5,000,000 a year to sponsor the 11. They would profit 5,000,000 plus other sponsors and their portion of the 25%. Than in the end the tracks, NASCAR it self and the owners all would make money. An if a team wants to sell the charter they have. Every other team that has a charter would have to say yes to a new company or person to buy that charter. In the end if NASCAR would do what I just said everybody would be happy and making money except for nascar would be making a little less money. An I know NASCAR owns like 9 tracks so that would be even more money for nascar. And tracks would be incentivized, sell more to sponsorship at the track. Another way to put profit is the prize at the end of the race. So 25% divided by 35 teams plus end of day prize money from each race. So this would be a win win win for Tracks, owners and NASCAR. Because hey NASCAR still went to bucks since I am not tracked 40% profit.
