Never disrespect a camp. I was young out in the bush and the river current overtook me (in other words I was caught in a storm) I did break into a cabin and wrote the owners a message of sorry but I had to. I was freezing cold from wet. I did chop wood for them. I am stile very grateful for the cabin owners for helping me stay alive.
I'm one of your American viewers and I absolutely love this channel's content and I am deeply saddened that some group of teenagers or pathetic adults decided to ruin such beautiful artwork. I pray for a swift rebuilding and for you to find a formidable security measure to stop this kind of utter disregard for such fine craftsmanship. I would suggest trail cameras or perhaps motion based alarms. It's so very sad to even have to think about that. I love your content and please do not let this disparage more of it to come!
Greetings from Indiana, USA. I'm so pleased to have found this channel. I'm sorry your camp was invaded by vandals,, but I'm very impressed with the way you gentlemen handled it with such good spirits and carried on. I really enjoy the elder gentleman's humor.
If they see the trail cams they will steal them especially if there is nobody around. If it happens again they should consider a new location. Or build a new shelter that will be easy to take down and put back up.
People have no respect for anything these days and that's a shame, I hope this doesn't discourage you from making future content cause I always enjoy watching your adventures and learning from the both of you!
@generic username There's no need for physical punishment to teach a kid right from wrong. That's just a stupid idea! I learned right from wrong just fine and my parents never raised a hand against me.

@@TheIrishRushin Contextually you know what is meant by that though. It doesn't literally mean there were no disrespectful people a generation or two ago, it means that respect for other people and their property has decreased. So that's the contention you should be querying. Deliberately ignoring context and intent (particularly when they are easy to recognize) is a dishonest argument technique, though I see so many people doing exactly this.
More than anything, when this happens one feels violated. I’ve been there and I empathize. But good to see you both very positive and safe. All the best, gents. Sending positive vibes
My heart truly goes out to you both, I love your work, and please know that there are still a LOT of good people out there in the world, so stay strong, rebuild and keep doing the great work that you do!
Gutted for you Mike. You were really good handling this though to be fair. I've made a 2 story shelter in a woodland on the outskirts of Cardiff and its been there for 2 years untouched. Every time I go there I have a feeling of dread that this could of happened to me. People have no idea the efforts we put in to create these beautiful places. Chin up guys 👍👊

Some things never change!!!! 80 _90 years ago my father built a log cabin in Goodwood, near Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. People trashed it and his boat. It happens everywhere. Glad that it was not too bad. You worked so hard.
Am 71 guys and my parents had a Bedford Dormobile with a lifting roof back in the late 50's...we used to go camping as kids..me, sister and brother and Dad had a Calor gaz lamp like yours...lovely and bright ...we had some great times and Mum would cook on the Calor Gas stove...some great meals were enjoyed by us all...Happy memories... Love your camp...such a shame some of these youngsters can't respect your little camp there...uselessly wrecking things and breaking windows....very sad... Thanks for sharing guys I can see you have a great fun time together...God bless....and take care xx
That pallet cabin build is how I found this channel. Sad that someone found it necessary to vandalize your builds. Glad to see that you and your Dad did repairs. Do you still have the badger skull?
Usually this is result of some drinking party which goes out of hand and then they start to smash things without any logical reason. I have a small NGO with the purpose of renovating old log cabins in my country which serve as bothies for hikers and we found out that it is completely useless to lock any part of it because intruders cause more damage just by breaking in than by stealing anything. Stay strong and keep going.
Mike, everyone needs a dad like yours - calm under pressure, hopeful and joyful., always ready to fix stuff in an unusual way. No wonder you turned out to be the character that you did, it was I am sure - in no small part to your dad. (Due respect I bet the rest was your mum👍🤣).

Dear Sirs. My respect for staying so cool about all the destruction. I really hope, that you will transport your great little stove to your own woodland. If possible, all the stuff (including the buildings) should be transferred so that they are a bit safer than on this property. I would absolutely love to see this happen. 2) Maaaan, I definitely hate this kind of totally unnecessary, senseless vandalism. Those "people" are simply dumb brazenly and highly aggressive. Nowadays unfortunately lots and lots of them existing in this world. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all of you.
You guys created a little piece of heaven. Sad to see it destroyed. Remember that you brought much good into the lives of many people and will continue to do so. Best wishes and respect.
The original build of that cabin was when I found your channel. How cool that it's had so many views and I'm glad you're able to save it. The 'village' you've built all since then is fantastic. All that history and hard work taught we viewers quite a bit. But the real core of your channel is the two of you together. Watching your Dad build that marvelous play house for your kids, the way you work and laugh together, so much wonderful content. And yeah, we have BBC America and do get Antiques Roadshow. I will hunt down that episode and check it out.
Your attitude is amazing, like ants or those wasps, they would just rebuild no matter how many times somebody stomped on their nest without ever feeling like victims. Well done to you both.
So sorry this happened. Some people can't stand to see other folks do something positive. I hope those responsible suffer karmic backlash soon. Please keep on keeping on!
It's a bummer that someone did that to the cabin. It's great to see you and your dad remaining steadfast in such a situation. I thought it would be a downer video but you and your dad's relationship made it a positive video. Awesome.
Blood groves came out in the 1980s on cheep daggers and is just like a saw kerf width. The bayonet has a proper fuller for weight reduction. The blood groves are not to let blood spill out but to allow air in to reduce suction when you pull the knife out of the person or animal.

It used to be a time if you were stranded in the woods, you would replace and leave a bit more when you left. I remember using one once. I only used very little wood. I don't have much energy to cut more. I went home but I felt bad not been able to leave more cut wood. I went to the store in the city before hitting back to that location. This time, I took a huge bag of salt, flour, yeast, beans, and water bottles and hit back. Upon arrival I notice 2 people were there. They let me know they were the owners retiring there. I could see the veg garden. So I have them the items. They say....... Why? I told them about a time I went on my own and came upon the cabin. Andi did used their wood. All that couple said was....... O& yes, I remember seen less wood by the stove and not been replaced. But we notice a clean up was done including the windows. They were very kind accepting my items. And I felt better.
it's always a risk when someone comes across a campsite you've spent time in to build up a little. It's more a shame that some people feel the need to break stuff. But 5 years trouble-free is pretty good for a place on public land. But you two have a great positive attitude about it. Good on you.
So annoying that people are so reckless and selfish. If someone had used the place responsibly to shelter, enjoy or even live rough for a while, you might understand, but the dumping of rubbish, breaking up of carefully constructed items and burning your stuff is unforgivable. Glad you have managed to repair and enjoy the spaces again. Great teamwork from you both as ever. Stay well.
It's one thing to use someone's camp but it's a whole another story when they trash and destroy it. I'm so sorry to you and your Dad that you had to see this.

You don’t know how lucky you are having a father like you have, my father did nothing with me, taught me nothing and barely spoke to me. It’s lovely watching you enjoy each other’s company.
My first view of you guys. You had me at ; "They broke into our Cabin". Fantastic video of how damage can inspire. The least damage, is always the best. I've seen this happen to many cabin owners. The best part is how it brings a family together. ;)
I've got to say although damage has been done, and the unfortunate circumstances of which they may return, the overall damage has been minor. Normally when camps are found they get completely destroyed. Get some wildlife cameras for the future.
I agree. If they'd really wanted to "trash" the place, there'd be little left, and with the hot, dry tinderbox conditions we've had this year, they could have burnt everything down. I think they actually got off very lightly. In fact I'd say whoever had been there, had been quite respectful of everything, all things considered, and so they should be relieved. They should actually be quite pleased that some people made use of their facilities, and by and large left it all in pretty good shape. If you think what COULD have happened, and what DID actually happen, no real harm was done.
I was afraid this could happen! We live in a world of harm! Thank you both for sharing the good things and the bad! I hope this will stop future invasions! Awareness can be a deterrent. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. Could have worse. Love from NW Colorado. Thanxz
This was going through my mind with every video. Jealous individuals will be going out their own way to find your structures just to do this. Pathetic really.

5 years... it's been a while eh? To be honest this cabin build series was what inspired me looking into buying a property. I always dreamt of building something like this! Was such a great experience and fun watching You and your amazing Dad build this cabin! And just today I finally signed the contract on my 2nd property, a small woodland, where hopefully soon I'll be able to build something similar 🥰
What a cool Dad, you guys have fun together and that's a special relationship to enjoy and appreciate. Best Thoughts to both and enjoy your exploration, building, and creating. 😘 Beth Tennessee, USA
On a very long trip through the Quetico in 1974 we came upon a well-built log cabin on one of the many small islands. It had six or so stacked bunk beds inside and a pantry stocked with canned goods to make meals. There was a fire pit outside and drinking water was the crystal-clear lake twenty yards away. Inside the cabin was a sign that welcomed whomever was there, offered them the use of the cabin and food as needed, and kindly asked to replace what they could or "trade in kind" if possible. The place was well-used and well-kept. That's Canada for you. And by the way, Canadians really and truly ARE the nicest people on earth. Much respect to my northern friends. I truly wish Diefenbaker hadn't scuttled the Avro Arrow and Canada had become the dominant superpower on the planet. We Americans were given the chance to lead and we really screwed it up.
So sorry this happened. Glad you guys are ok and didn't have to have a confrontation with whoever did this. Love watching your channel. Be safe, both of you!
Good to see your dad is able to make light of the situation. Shows resilience. Hope all is not too difficult to fix for you guys. Some people are just idiots. Unfortunately, I think we'll probably see a lot more of this kind of thing in the future, as people have seemed to lose their sense of values and morals.
They lose that only because they're being allowed to. The solution is to not let them lose the values and morals of an adult without paying a high penalty for doing that. I preach and follow the mantra of "personal responsibility" and I believe you should get what you deserve, which will be whatever you make it be.
serious shame they trashed things so needlessly. might just be the old backpacker in me, but if i'd stumbled across it, i might use the fire pit, & spend a night in one of the houses, I would want to leave it in better shape than I found it: at least tidy up and clear the leaves back from the fire pit, straighten things up, restock the woodpile, etc. Mindless destruction like that is just so pointless.... About the Khukri's notch. It's a characteristic of that type of blade. The mark is a long tradition and carries a great deal of meaning. From a practical standpoint, it's a "drip point" to keep any blood from running down the blade onto the handle and make it slippery. On the spiritual side, it's the mark of their deity, as a reminder. They swear to never use these blades against women or children, or to slaughter cows. (this is why the notch resembles the footprint of a cow)
yeah use it and leave it as it was found, stock up what you use, or use your own, and leave the site with a bit extra wood and maybe a few beers in the huts with a thank you note.
When I was backpacking, I did occasionally stop in a cabin when the weather was bad. Always leave a note, more wood than when I found it and if it was locked, don't mess with it and pack out your trash, always. I was always grateful when I came across a cabin with the latch-string out, especially if it was raining. Too bad the hornets had already vacated the premise. It would have served the baduns right if they had roused a nest of angry stingers and had to bale out that broken window.
With these two, their attitude towards the break in is commendable. It’s almost as if they are true believers in the journey, not the destination…. ❤️🇺🇸
5 years already from the pallet cabin, time flies, sorry to see this happening One minor nitpick, the "blood groove" was used to make the weapon longer and stiffer with less material, although nowadays is just milled in most productions, no relation with bleeding an enemy
The fuller on a blade isn't actually to channel blood out of a target. It's made into the blade to widen a piece or metal and lighten it with out changing the strength of the blade. So you can make a bigger stronger blade out of less material. I believe the copper or brass that was soldered on the back of that knifes sheath was to add the belt loop. That type of knife doesn't normally have one, it's normally worn tucked into a belt or sash not worn attached to a belt.
I’m so sorry to read this, and as an aside to what the brilliantly helpful comments your other subscribers have said, what about also appealing to the better nature of people and leave a notice saying that people are welcome to use the site if in need, but could they please be respectful and leave it as they found it. Of course that might not make a difference to those who have zero respect, but it may give some of them food for thought. Your dad is an absolute gem, love his humour! It's not teenagers it's just awful people. 9/10 of the people there will have just been camping and drinking, it's probably just one or 2 people spoil it. Was like that when I was a bit younger
About 30 years ago I built a small deck with disassembled Pallets. It turned out fine (pre-measured wood). I didn’t treat the wood so it only lasted 4 years.😆 The cool thing was, I learned I could build a deck!👍
Glad your stove wasn't trashed , I've wanted 1 like it for my she shed, potting shed , since you first put it together and built a fire in it ! Prayers from Tennessee
I am so sorry this has happened to you. my condolences for loss of all that hard work. the true Outdoorsman this is a criminal offense than my opinion deserves no less than jail time. I would recommend investing in trail cams and hiding them up in the trees angled down to get photos. people like this tend to come back and attack again. here in the states something like this would have us fighting mad and ready to not only call the cops but end up setting booby traps nothing lethal but definitely something that they would remember. again my apologies for your losses and I hope nothing is so far gone that it cannot be repaired.
@@brain8484 that was not lost on me, that is why I recommended the trail cams, the cams allow for evidence for prosecution. America is vastly different from Britain, Alaska even more so.
I'm sorry those jerks did that. Love both of your attitudes about the whole thing as well! You guys did a great job building the little cabin as it's still standing! Beautiful cabin! I’m sorry they vandalized it! My dad always taught us to respect others and their possessions! If we were out hunting or hiking and the weather turned ugly and there was an unused, open shelter there, we’d hunker down until storm passed and leave everything better than how we found it. I don’t understand why people need to destroy things. Glad they didn’t steal anything. Your dad has a lovely knife collection! Very cool! My dad and I were once on the Antique Roadshow years ago in Portland, Oregon. USA. So neat that your dad was too!
Not sure why people feel the need to destroy stuff. Understandable that one may use your site for a wee camp out or such, but why do they have to destroy stuff? I don’t know.
This is horrible of course. But it can't compare to the destruction that the migrants from the middle east and Pakistan leave behind when hiking through our lands.
I bought a Camping Gaz mini lantern and single burner ultra lite stove in '98 . About 5 years later they stopped making or importing the butane canisters . I still have a few original canisters that I bought when I was told that was the last of them . Every once in a while I find some canisters at a garage sale or in a storage locker that I buy . Love that wood stove , I want one even if I never get to use it , lol .
It's horrible that people are so rude to destroy stuff that doesn't belong to them. And leave garbage all over the place. Sorry they did that to you guys. 🙏🏼❤
Rude is too mild to describe these pieces of trash . We are living in a world where the 'garbage' is increasing rapidly . We need to build more 'cabins' that have steel bars to keep them inside.
That little stove is the greatest! I would have loved one of those for when my husband & I camped! We built little cabin in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We used it during the spring, summers for fishing and fall for hunting. We loved our little rough cabin! So many good memories !
I miss doing things with my dad, we used to go on bicycle rides, camping trips in the mid 80s and 90s. I can't believe that cabin is 5 years old already, that is so cool that you and your father are such good friends.
This makes me enraged. My Dad taught me that if you come upon someone's shelter or camp and need to use it, show some respect by chopping some firewood, build a table, carve some wood fairies for their kids, make some repairs. I have even left notes thanking them for their effort and work to help others. You were much cooler than I would have been. Well done, lads. Yeah, I can call you lads cause I am much older than you.

Btw, a fuller isn't for blood-letting, that's an urban legend. Its to reduce weight without reducing its overall strength
It bothers me, that this blood groove trope is still a thing

It is so nice, pleasant and heart warming to see a father and son enjoy each other's company. Thank you for sharing.
it's always a risk when someone comes across a campsite you've spent time in to build up a little.
Stay well.

I agree with you.
@@procta2343 Exactly. If it's locked, it's locked. If it isn't, clean up a bit or stack some wood. Leave a note.
Love your Dad, so good to see your close relationship. People can be so rude
So sad that some people did that. Awesome to see you both back at the cabin remember that build well
With these two, their attitude towards the break in is commendable. It’s almost as if they are true believers in the journey, not the destination…. ❤️🇺🇸
5 years already from the pallet cabin, time flies, sorry to see this happening
One minor nitpick, the "blood groove" was used to make the weapon longer and stiffer with less material, although nowadays is just milled in most productions, no relation with bleeding an enemy
A fuller also makes a blade more rigid, which is important for a thrusting weapon like a bayonet.
I’m so sorry to read this, and as an aside to what the brilliantly helpful comments your other subscribers have said, what about also appealing to the better nature of people and leave a notice saying that people are welcome to use the site if in need, but could they please be respectful and leave it as they found it. its a shame people think they need to destroy other people's hard work also I can't believe its been 5 years since you guys made that pallet cabin
People loved the Cabin series, i appreciate you`re spicing it up with other projects, just please schedule an episode of the cabin from time to time..
Your administration is allowing this with people just doing what they want to other people's properties likecthe illegal aliens do here in Texas.
Rude is too mild to describe these pieces of trash . We are living in a world where the 'garbage' is increasing rapidly . We need to build more 'cabins' that have steel bars to keep them inside.
Also, the Fuller. Its not to let blood out, its to both lighten and strengthen the blade.
I love how Mike is so accustomed to his tools that he does surgery on a wasp's nest with a saw and a spade.
Tat was a hornets nest and it they were active, it would have gotten real bad very quickly.
@@MrOldclunker So glad you pointed that out. I may have spent the rest of my life in soul-crushing vespian ignorance. 😜
