For the third trap (timestamp 13:24) I think white can mess up this line by playing Bb5+ instead of Bb3 to defend the pawn. If white plays Bb5+ and you block with the pawn it doesn't allow you to play the eventual Qd3++ and if you block with the knight you can't play the fork Nc2+. What do you recommend?

he also said ng1 the only move in the last video where he showed this trap... i dont know why he always is wrong in this part but im not a gm. if white plays nd4 black got a big problem.. but if we just ignore it no one plays it? ^^ i dont get it. stockfish cant handle the situation if nd4 and nxd4 but who is this stockfish to tell us what is good or bad. as a gm he shouldnt say Forced to go Ng1 because thats just 100% wrong.
To the situation at 4:45 i come often when i start with the bush gass gambit. Its great, so i can play stafford or rousseau. Also for white i prefer bishops opening, that leads to various cool lines.
I love the Rousseau gambit, i started playing it after the first video when i had Elo 1750 and it brought me a lot of victories. When i reached Elo 1900 i started facing 4.d4 more frequently, and lost a couple of games. I got destroyed on the dark squares. But now in this video you show you can take on e4 and go for a risk/reward set up. I tried it, 3 times, and 3 times i won. Highly satisfying to win with this gambit and i can confirm it works against 2000 elo players. Your videos are the best, i hope you make a lot more
I played in the 1600-1750 range in Scholastic Chess, and I had many victories off of the Danish Gambit for white. Even games that I lost were a lot of fun to play.
в конце вариант из перевернутого венского) .. как это часто бывает идеи при схожем построении перекликаются (1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.f4 d5 4.fe Ne4 5.d3!? Qh5 6.g3 Ng3 7.Nf3 Qh4 8.Nd5 Na6 9.Nf4! Qh6 10.Ne2 +- )
I think the prob with 6Qh5+ like you suggested, is the simple pawn block on G6 gives white incredible trouble. White could ignore it, and do the 7Nf7 anyways, but black would gladly trade queens because white would lose the knight in the process. Maybe white doesn't go 7Nf7, but keep in mind, white needs to keep tempo bc its knight is still hanging, so retreating the queen back to its home is an unattractive option no? So maybe 7Qh4? but that loses to 7be7, hard for white to not lose the knight, even with the 8Nf7 thing again, white still loses queen and a night for a queen. so maybe 7Qg4? but that loses to blacks ...7d5, losing the bishop for sure, maybe knight too.
And me too 👌🏻...i won so many chess games after i saw this gambit on your channel and thank you for that... 3rd trick is new to me 🤯, and so cool and "gangsta" like you said at the beginning of this video...all the best regards 💪🏻
Finished in 14 with Qxh3#. White tried a Queen defense where a double check forced White to defend with and lose the Queen. Was a lil worried about an early Qh5+ but the wide open fried liver was too tempting for White to pass up. Good stuff!
I actually played this opening in a tournament. At time stamp 1:13 instead of playing Ng1 my opponent actually played Nd4 after thinking for a long time. I happily took his N with my N which landed me in a worse position. I'm waiting for the third part of Rousseau Gambit in which you cover the line where white sacs N on d4....
I was doing Dura's Gambit that transformed to this very trick. The opponent maintained the H file with his rook. I never thought of the idea to re-route my knight and force him leave the G-File. We ended up killing each other's rook. However, I won the game due to him not getting the chance to castle and save his king. I also admire your idea of first capturing the white's Bishop before forking the king and the rook. Thanks mate.
I absolutely love playing the Rousseau Gambit. I have scored numerous victories, and I finally ended a losing streak against one of my friends who is an avid chess player. Thank you so much for your videos.
Every time I have pushed f5 for the “Rousseau gambit”, I lose my knight to bxg8. I’m still not convinced f5 is a smart move if they snatch your knight instead.
I like the way that you demonstrate that the response to a threat is multiple threats back. There's almost always, at my very low level, an emotional reaction to the N fork on c2. Thank you for showing me how I can exploit this.
This is one of the most fun gambits I have come across in a very long time Thank you as always GM Smirnov.. your videos are always fun to watch and learn from
Mr. GM Smirnov, it seems that I understand after three month of listening and watching your videos better your perfect English. Maybe after a year I will shine between the chess players who beat me now.
hey Igor, what if in this position 0:39, white plays d3 and i play bishop c5 and then they capture pawn exf5, what would be the best way to play around that, because it seems like that f file pawn is pretty important in the attack. i would assume push d pawn to d5? but idk
After 5…d5, white plays Bb5 and win the game with more active pieces and black has no more traps… White continue with Qh5+ or attack center with c4 then Nc3.
I love Igor's phrasing. "Totally destroys write", "totally losing", "white might as well resign now", "Now the Queen is trapped and you just win!", "Punish a bad move" lol. Love them all.
This damn gambit destroyed my damn win streak and guess what I am 1038 elo I have gotten that 1000 elo and I'm happy and then alot of people just used this damn gambit
What happens if after black plays f5 white reply nd4?! Can you show us this variation!? Sorry after black plays e4 attacking the knight then black plays nd4!?,what happens
Igor - you are awesome in what you do ! Your energy makes these learning videos interesting and that much more fun !!! Heartfelt thanks on behalf of all the kids who are learning from your videos
Many of your recommendations are great. But, they do not cover all the scenarios and I have noted people in my rank zone (~1200-1300) are able to counter these moves at times with scenarios not covered by you. But, can't deny your videos are very helpful :) Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us.
What would happen if after …g2 white instead responds with Ke2 or Kd2? The succeeding black moves will just smoke him out but there’s no mating threat and the white queen captures the promoted pawn preventing black from getting two queens. Black would be one piece down, could even become two piece down when Bxg8, in the end.
I've played chess for decades and like to teach according to my own views. I play the player not the pieces. If you want to figure out the moves, then first figure out the person and their moves are easy to predict. To me playing chess is like playing poker. It isn't the cards that win you the game. Basic strategy I call the cross. If you want to win the game you need to control the game. While anything is possible I play to control the central cross of 2 files wide around the center. If you control the center, you control the game. If you control the game you hold the initiative. I spent months in my room perfecting the middle battle. To break it you only have a limited number of options that lead to predictable outcomes. Knowing this they are easily countered. It is an attrition style but the losses of your foe of major pieces will favor you in the end game.
if white takes exf5 then after e4 white can from what I have seen jump to like d4 and if black takes back then we have a devastating attack with the queen
Ok, in trap 3 in this vid I got 2x questions: a) So when black takes pawn e4, what if they go pawn e5 instead of Kn d5? b) When black goes Kn f6 counter attack on white Q, what if white's response is B g5 instead?
I love this Gambit, along with the Luccini and the similar Jaenish against the Ruy Lopez, for blitz and bullet. Especially as I play the Vienna as white. I feel that the very sharp lines improve my tactical development and piece coordination. I always played the Caro before, but now that's just for slower time controls.
great opening but needs strong nerves! It appeals to me as it leads to many complications. I play a lot of blitz chess and so you dont have a lot of time to think so this opening might be worth a try. Thanks for your excellent exposition.

At 1:05 it is possible to play Nd4 because if you take the knight Queen h5 is possible with +3,6. After Nd4 is the correct move Nf6 with equal play.

I played the response to white's e4 just as you described and got the checkmate with Qf3 exactly as shown! Totally pumped by that!

I love Gambits, and this is certainly a good Gambit to learn, thanks for the video, very educational and entertaining.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Thing about chess, if opponent doesn’t play like you expect, your traps don’t work 😅
2nd trap: 4:52, what if after you move pawn to F4 to cut off the horse from the bishop, they move Qh5 putting you in check, what is the line for that?
I think the prob with 6Qh5+ like you suggested, is the simple pawn block on G6 gives white incredible trouble. I literally discovered this on my own one week ago and its amazing!
7:24 also if your opponent tries Ke2 you promote to a freakin Knight! either winning the queen or mating white.
Finished in 14 with Qxh3#. White tried a Queen defense where a double check forced White to defend with and lose the Queen. Was a lil worried about an early Qh5+ but the wide open fried liver was too tempting for White to pass up. Good stuff!
@9:20 they are more likely to move knight to take rook, because its also a check
worth thinking through scenarios like this though
I have analyzed this using Stockfish. While can take f5 no problem and white holds the pawn.
I actually played this opening in a tournament. At time stamp 1:13 instead of playing Ng1 my opponent actually played Nd4 after thinking for a long time. I happily took his N with my N which landed me in a worse position.

Counter to the counter of the rousseau gambit(OP)
After 4 d4 fxe4 5 Nxe5 d5 instead of 6 Bb3 I think a stronger move might be 6 Bb5 and 6...Qd6 may save Black with accurate play.
My favorite opening! I'm a gambit head, and my 2nd favorite after this one is the Englund gambit: Hartlaud-Charlick variation.
the fact you said gangster while talking about chess made my entire Monday, thank you, your videos are very helpful for low rated players like me.
Igor @2:45 doesn’t knight to e5 instead of d4 trap the queen immediately without needing to involve the bishop?
Mr. GM Smirnov, it seems that I understand after three month of listening and watching your videos better your perfect English. Maybe after a year I will shine between the chess players who beat me now.

Thank you, Igor. I love this opening as it gives several different possibilities. I appreciate learning from you.
Glad to hear that!
What happens if after black plays f5 white reply nd4?! Can you show us this variation!? Sorry after black plays e4 attacking the knight then black plays nd4!?,what happens

At 3:39, and after Black's ...Bd7 threatening ...Be8, White may be able to save the WQ with 11g5 though Black still has a great game
Oh... superb Gambit...and nicely explained... thee cheers

At 5:20 what's the idea if white protects the f2 pawn by playing Qe2 instead of playing g3?
Guys, just note one thing. In the Ng5 line, white can draw the game by playing the move c3 with a three fold repetition by playing Qa4.
I've played chess for decades and like to teach according to my own views. I play the player not the pieces. Ok, in trap 3 in this vid I got 2x questions: a) So when black takes pawn e4, what if they go pawn e5 instead of Kn d5? b) When black goes Kn f6 counter attack on white Q, what if white's response is B g5 instead?

GM Igor, this is really a deadly opening as Black can be brutal. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve been playing this gambit non stop for the past year. Bout time it deserves some love. Also works in the Ruy Lopez game.
Why does the computer say Bc5 is a error and it’s +2.5 for white? 4:19
I am going to pick this up right away, these kinds are perfect for blitz games
Thanks for the great chess lessons, Igor!
