I look at it like Eminem is in the song as a means to advertise the new artist he's doing the song with.
All in all, Em is the boss in cases like that, just cuz his English is so good, he probably puts them last whenever his lines are better and they just seem to always be better because they are. 4:25 yes! I picked up on this myself. Much like one can’t really be a GOAT when they’ve JUST started. So, these new rappers propelled to fame often due to a change in media (I see you, social media) it’s almost like a lot was skipped that the guys like Royce and Em could never have skipped to get to this point (and i DONT say it as a diss, the new generation can’t help that the world is evolving so fast as far as tech goes. In a way the OGs are dying (either from age, from careers ending either by their own will or due to less desirable circumstances) in this case they could be those dying butterflies. The newer gen in a way are the caterpillars that will end those butterflies life at some point (and in a way this is natural, think of people like Kendrick and J Cole but they are on a more ‘natural’ path and still enriching hip hop. When this flips and the OGs are the caterpillars, because, they came first, …they aren’t necessarily the ones killing the butterflies unless it’s in a diss (hi MGK). Butterflies are beautiful and only the male is brightly colored. The females often are dull and if their wings didn’t stick up n out you might think they were moths. This leads to actual crazy fights between those butterflies…many of the younger gen is losing their life to either true fights …with…arms or to inner demons =/ that fast rise that generation experienced is also in part to blame for the way things are. As is a changed sense of progression of time and how long something is relevant, how long is too long etc. this is an actual thing’ in as humans already. We feel time pass very differently as children, teens and adults. If we are having tough times it is slow as molasses. Also, we are convinced we know it all at a young age. And we will do what we want. It’s another reason I think the hook goes off “ring the alarm”. Like, folks, wake up. Everyone, not just the younger ones though…mostly them. “Pay attention, we aren’t just saying this because you all are having fame and fortune. Trust us. There’s so much more at stake.” While all the “I’m the best” fights rage on, disses are taken too far … it’s a lot like in war, yes, the young go off, we lose so many. After WWI the combination of the war AND the Spanish Flu pandemic left a hole in the young 20s to 30s males that it had a trickle down effect. Left a bit of a vacuum. Eventually this loss led many countries to NOT want to bother with Herr H with his moustache because no one wanted another WWI, they were determined to never have another war (yeah, that went well). 4:25 yes! I picked up on this myself. Much like one can’t really be a GOAT when they’ve JUST started. So, these new rappers propelled to fame often due to a change in media (I see you, social media) it’s almost like a lot was skipped that the guys like Royce and Em could never have skipped to get to this point (and i DONT say it as a diss, the new generation can’t help that the world is evolving so fast as far as tech goes.
In a way the OGs are dying (either from age, from careers ending either by their own will or due to less desirable circumstances) in this case they could be those dying butterflies. The newer gen in a way are the caterpillars that will end those butterflies life at some point (and in a way this is natural, think of people like Kendrick and J Cole but they are on a more ‘natural’ path and still enriching hip hop.
When this flips and the OGs are the caterpillars, because, they came first, …they aren’t necessarily the ones killing the butterflies unless it’s in a diss (hi MGK). Butterflies are beautiful and only the male is brightly colored. The females often are dull and if their wings didn’t stick up n out you might think they were moths. This leads to actual crazy fights between those butterflies…many of the younger gen is losing their life to either true fights …with…arms or to inner demons =/ that fast rise that generation experienced is also in part to blame for the way things are. As is a changed sense of progression of time and how long something is relevant, how long is too long etc. this is an actual thing’ in as humans already. We feel time pass very differently as children, teens and adults. If we are having tough times it is slow as molasses. Also, we are convinced we know it all at a young age. And we will do what we want.
It’s another reason I think the hook goes off “ring the alarm”. Like, folks, wake up. Everyone, not just the younger ones though…mostly them. “Pay attention, we aren’t just saying this because you all are having fame and fortune. Trust us. There’s so much more at stake.”
While all the “I’m the best” fights rage on, disses are taken too far … it’s a lot like in war, yes, the young go off, we lose so many. After WWI the combination of the war AND the Spanish Flu pandemic left a hole in the young 20s to 30s males that it had a trickle down effect. Left a bit of a vacuum. Another parallel one could make. They warned him about a 2 front war. And…he didn’t listen. He lost. Oh well.)
I’m now just going crazy linking thoughts and ideas. I say all this because the caterpillar and butterfly symbolism is one seen in cultures that believe in reincarnation etc. or just as a chicken/egg. The caterpillar is a butterfly and a butterfly is a caterpillar just…by different names. The caterpillar can turn into more than one thing. A butterfly is already what it is.
