I would say it's a continuous blast from whatever is the source with each successive packet caring mass. It has mass, thus momentum, thus providing a force. And because of this mass we have friction which causes the heat. But it also has light properties. Hence the reflection. I would say it's not just one nature of thing. It's like something from a ray gun. It shoots out and knock you back all while burning you. But it's composed of light. Man...idk what the fuck to say. Lol.
Actually i think Gubs made a mistake:It does not give off light.For example,electricity is invisible energy.But when it passes through the air,the friction created between the electrons and the air particles is enough to "light up"the air,exposing it to the naked eye.I imagine the optic blast is also a kind of energy blast similar to electricity(similar,not the same as),and that u cannot see the energy blast,but u can see the light energy given off by its friction between the air and the energy blast.Also,i think the mirror is not actually necessary,because its like throwing a ball at a wall,and it will bounce off,just like the energy "bouncing" off the mirror.PS.It is energy from other dimensions ok,nothing can be proved unless the writers say so or we get something like that in real life.

Great video, however as a huge nerd I need to correct something. Cyclops blast does indeed travel at the speed of light and it has been stated a such many times in the comics. Watch the 'ComicsExplained' video on how his blasts work and he will cite all the comics that say this.

Though it was never explained clearly how his eyewear blocks the energy, nor why the recoil of his blasts didn't break his neck every time he shot them off.
The blasts are noticeable to Quicksilver, as it can travel through Cyclops's lenses when Quicksilver takes them off. If Quicksilver is traveling at the same speed in that scene, which most likely he is, then those blasts are traveling, still at least the speed of light (comparing to the TV turning off). Also, the mirror is magic because if it we're realistic, the light just leaving the mirror wouldn't be able to travel fast enough for Quicksilver to detect change in the subject of reflection. You DO realise that the light we saw flickering across the tv at the end is the product of leftover electricity within the system instead of being light still trapped in the tv, right? In the same scene you can see the television IMMEDIATELY begins turning off when he pushes the button on the remote, and seeing as the signal they put out IS a form of light, he can't be traveling faster than the speed of light if he gets that kind of immediate reaction. Also, whatwith the thing about plasma screens turning off even faster, you DO realise that disproves the fact that that TVs turn off at lightspeed, even though that's what you seem to be saying.

4:06 Your reasoning is completely flawed here. If he saw something that usually takes 0.05 seconds as taking 1 second, he is seeing everything 20 times faster than normal. If from that perspective (waaaayyy overestimating) he was going 1,000 miles per hour, he'd only be going 20,000 miles per hour in real time. I think you're getting confused. The light travels away from the screen at the speed of light, but the screen doesn't turn off very fast at all.

Yes, it's not a laser beam in comics, but right here, in a movie, you can see that this "energy beam" shot from Cyclop's eyes was actually a laser, cause it had has been reflected by a mirror. Dunno if it's moviemakers' fault, but it's just like so. He is faster than light in cinema universe.

You DO realise that the light we saw flickering across the tv at the end is the product of leftover electricity within the system instead of being light still trapped in the tv, right? In the same scene you can see the television IMMEDIATELY begins turning off when he pushes the button on the remote, and seeing as the signal they put out IS a form of light, he can't be traveling faster than the speed of light if he gets that kind of immediate reaction. Also, whatwith the thing about plasma screens turning off even faster, you DO realise that disproves the fact that that TVs turn off at lightspeed, even though that's what you seem to be saying.
