You are definitely somewhat blessed, if you stayed awake whole night and spent the night engrossed in the Kirtans of Bhagwaan Shri Mahadev ji. It generates abundance of auspicious karma for the one who stays awake whole night of Mahashivratri and only staying awake is not enough, most importantly you must spend the night with kirtans and stories and glories of Bhagwaan Shri Mahadev ji.

Those who didn't, stay awake and do kirtan whole night .
As according to Shaivism, specially Kashmiri Shaivism, it is time of Shaktipata(divine grace from Shiva) being bestowed over a person.
