The Beatles "Yesterday...and Today" aka Butcher cover 1.5 state!!

- This is a stereo copy of the The Beatles "Yesterday...and Today" album also known as the Butcher cover. What is unique about his version is that the original front in super clean, the unpasted side while the back side has the actual replacement sticker, the Trunk cover, that was subsequently put on to replace the original Butch cover. Of all my years of collecting Beatles albums and some authentic Butcher covers, this is the first I've ever seen.
The downside is that someone has written their name on the back side and the original orange inner sleeve is missing. Vinyl is VG condition.
This is the real deal and not a fake. I do own the Japanese and Spanish fake versions and I've also am very familiar with real versions as well.
The owner came across it in a record collection and thought it was unusual. It is for sale and he is currently trying to ascertain a true value. Видеоклипы
That my friend must be worth even more than an original first state. One of a kind. If you are a Beatles fan, you hit the jackpot.
Nice looking copy!
Professional peels often leave the pasted slick with minute ripples in the paper. This slick appears to have been pasted once only and is very smooth as if it were manufactured. This is surely a factory error. I currently do not own this piece but I did go back to visit it this past summer and confirmed again it is real. Another expert has viewed it and confirmed it to be real as well. It is a 2nd state album but a factory mistake and the front cover was never covered up and it's very clean.
@roostr20 It's most definitely not a fake. When you see it in person and smoothness of the cover, one will see that it's a first time paste over and a subsequent removal and paste. I've sent this to a couple of renown authorities on this particular and subject and both state it's real. I sent photos as well that I don't have posted on here. It's very rare and one of a kind.
@FranklinParkIL Well it's a factory error and I have never seen anything quite like it. The vinyl is in stereo. I was just bowled over seeing the item. It's most definitely not a fake. Maybe one of a kind in the world? Anyone?
@xyzief I would not think you could call it a 1st state if it was removed from shelf and returned to capital for the new cover, but because the new cover was pasted on the back instead of the front I would not think you could call it a 2nd either,
I personally think that it is definitely a fake. That is far too large of an error for the factory to ever ship it. Quality control would never have allowed that to leave the factory. The only other possibility I can think of is the previous owner peeled the cover, and pasted the peeled cover on the back himself. Otherwise it is a fake.
I'll bet this thing's worth at least fifteen or twenty bucks!
Not even close. There is speculation of hit being pretty high. But if you are being facetious, then yeah, I'll but that for a dollar. :)
I'd give it away

Exactly
If that is real then wouldn't the cover still be a 1st state because it didn't have the paste over on it at all?
so rare
if this is acutally and error by columbia, this would be a very unique and possible one of a kind, I don't now how one would be able to establish if this is actually a factory mistake or something someone did after peeling it from another jacket, or even this jacket, i would like to know if it has sold or if anyone confermed that this had never been a state 2 album
Sorry to break it to you, but the trunk cover was NOT the back of the butcher cover. That's a phony butcher slick glued to the back of the trunk cover.
Thank you for your input. Apparently this is a factory error in which the replacement slick was slapped on the back rather than the front. As for a phony slick glued on, it most definitely is not. I've examined this in person on two different occasions and it would be impossible for the slick to be that smooth. It was definitely done via a machine. Also, the owner procured the item by a Canadian owner via a yard sale. Meaning it was mixed in with a bunch of old records from a personal collection and purchased for a very small amount in which the owner had no clue as to what they had. Also, I've send high res photos over to Perry Cox and Jim Hansen, who both agree it appears to be legit but requires up close and personal investigation. So far the owner hasn't agreed to send it over but I believe he might still have it for sale.
Looking closer, I realized you are correct. Notice the black Capitol dot on top of the trunk slick is on the wrong side, making it a legit butcher cover with the trunk slick mistakenly stuck on the back.
***** Thats pretty slick for sure !! Question sir , do you believe that the 2nd state trunk butcher will be just as collectible as the graphic due to the fact people peel the reface out of curiosity and this means less and less 2nd states ? Thanks

Huge speculation in that arena. I've been reading more and more about this from collectors online and outline. However, this speculation has been occurring since I started collecting vinyl as a teen back in 1985. I'd hear this from collectors back in L.A. at record shows but now, 30 years later, that ebay and other online sites are more inclusive on seeing these pieces coming out of the woodwork it would be interesting to aggregate the metrics as to where the trend is heading. IMO, I would say why bother with peeling a 2nd state if you can get a 1st state copy cheap, albeit a bootleg, and even a small CD version now that Capitol/UMG released it officially. I'd say hold on to that minty 2nd State complete with original minty inner sleeve and minty vinyl and frame it.
Good comments captain blue. If you want a reproduction of the cover you can get a bootleg. In the 70s there were several NYC record shops selling phony (but great quality) slicks for 3 bucks each. Or you can get the Capitol CD. Obviously the original holds more value, even a crappy one. I have a 'professionally peeled' 3rd state, looks great tho there's some very small painted over spots. I'm debating on selling it as it's been sitting in a box for 30 years now.
How do you go about telling a real from a fake?
you can make so much money off of that
George Harrison was the best Beatle.
