This video series, specifically the Max Nano, is the one that launched my reefing endeavor into hyper-drive with FULL confidence. Love everyone in the scene: BRS tv, Reef Bum, Tidal Gardens, etc, but Jake really made me feel inspired that truly, once understood, a saltwater reef aquarium can be very easy to build and keep. Sort of was that way, with ups and downs of course along the way but more success than not, AND to this day have achieved no water changes schedule and very basic maintenance with automated dosing and auto top off, etc! Thank you very much for the energy you gave to the industry, Jake! 👍🏼
THIS IS THE VIDEO THAT GOT ME INTO REEFING. I AM AT A COMPLETE LOST FOR WORDS. EVAN, PLEASE DO NOT STOP MAKING VIDEOS. YOU HAVE TO CARRY THE TORCH FOR HIM 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 REST IN PEACE JAKE. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DID FOR THE HOBBY. 😢
I’ve been running this tank for 3yrs and love it. I’ve made many upgrades to keep the maintenance down. 1st add a Tunze nano ATO, I run a mixed reef so I added a MP10. I pulled the skimmer about 6-8 months ago and run the system without and do small mini 32oz WC every other day and have seen better results. I dose Brightwell Kalk+2 via a dosing pump twice a day 30ml total. I feed every other day and use Amino. In the chamber that housed the skimmer I packed with Siporax and could be used as a small fuge if you want. I also run Chemi Pure blue. Hope this helps your setup and look forward to seeing your progress. Thnx.
I love that you are doing this! Keep it up! I'm thinking of getting this tank for myself. Thanks for doing a series like this. I love your channel! Greeting from Bruges, Belgium.
Love your videos and can't wait to watch the rest of this series. Gotta say though, the Red Sea line of complete setups is, IMO, a bit on the crazy side in pricing. The one in this video, on Amazon is $716 before taxes. It's a nice setup and all, but $700+ for a nano setup? Once you figure in LR, sand, salt, dosing add-ons, test kits, and live stock, not to mention an RO/DI, you're at what, $1200 or so? Big price for a 20 gallon nano.
@@SynthToshi the fluval flex is 127L that goes pretty hard. Do 20L wc every month with four small fish and minimum feeding for the win. You'll be able to have soft coral and some lps
Where can I add a heater in this tank? The rear sump is tight and not much room left if you follow the instructions on the build.. Any advice appreciated.
Hi, I love this channel and this series. I have a RSM nano myself and it's a great tank. I do wonder though why you placed the skimmer the other way around? The manual states that the outflow of the skimmer should be on the lefr.
I am really considering buying that set up my question is do I really need to buy anything else in order to have a successful reef tank if I buy that exact model and type can I just rely on what comes with it?
I have a love hate relationship with the rimless tanks. They are aesthetically pleasing, but I hate the spillover of light from most LEDs. This looks like it doesn't have a ton how recessed the led is in the fixture
As someone who has had a ton of nanos and picos I recommend avoiding them. They always crash. You have to be able to keep tangs and wrasses or your tank is just a pest time bomb. It doesnt matter how crazy your inspections and dips are. I have seen a lot of successful nanos but I feel these people are just lucky and highly experienced or they have to restock often. If you want to keep high end corals you need a bigger tank. If you want a small cheap tank just stick with fresh water.
@@danriver12345 I bet you also believe everyone who has algae has a nutrient problem. All beginners should start with a tank that can have wrasses and tangs unless you are just gonna keep beginner softies or nems. I have lost every 30g or less to algae, bacteria, or bugs that would easily have been controlled by the right fish and greater water volume. These were all ultra low nutrient systems, ie no fish, with fuges. All my corals were always tripled dipped with bayer and coral rx, scraped heavily, and cut back to tissue only. I still got all the bad pests. The maintenance factor alone has me swearing off nanos for good. They just end up being a headache and money pit. I also would only buy from big name sellers who you know have a clean system. Avoid ebay corals like the plague because that's what they come with. Finally, if you dont have a qt then you may as well be asking for a crash. In fact its best to have two. Most people who buy nanos do so cause its cheap and that is a terrible reason to have one. Its better to just save up and invest in the proper stuff so you can actually enjoy your tank. I dont know, maybe I have just had a lot of bad luck with small tanks. All I know is now I wont take that risk again. It's a big stable tank or nothing for me. I'm not a gambling man.
@@fishfan2 If you just want a cheap tank, a majority softy nano is fine but if you got into the hobby to keep anything else it's better to save up and buy the right setup. To me a softy tank is a glorified refugium but that's just my opinion. It's a lot less headaches when you use the easiest most proven method and that's always best for newbies.
@@fishfan2 I have seen many nice nanos but it is just harder to pull off. Having a qt helps a lot. A lawnmower blenny and pipefish can do ok for substitutes. Choosing corals that grow quickly is a must. There are some stoneys that grow almost as fast as softies. Keeping a smaller tank just means more work and higher risk is all. Most SPS will likely not do well.
Enjoy your channel and website. Very informative. My question: When the h@ll is RedSea going to release their Reef Wave gyre pump?. I've been looking at promos/showings for a year ++. Have the 90 LED and I'd like to add a gyre pump and use the same app.

This is an amazing comment, love hearing from folks who have had a longer term setup--I'm getting the Red Sea nano so this was enormously helpful!
Hello. Which heater do you use?
Can I just say this Jake video is what got me into saltwater reef aquariums. The same tank I started with 😂
Yes! Finally some nano builds from Jake!
Why am I watching this i've been reefing for 10 years lol
Thanks again, Windsor for sharing this!
Jake i love you man, i love your methodology of reef keeping... its all about the fish and corals not about equipment
One of the best all in one nano tanks I have seen. Thanks for the tutorial Jake. 👍
Rip jake.. u the one of my favourite reefer..farewell brother
If I do decide to try my hand at reefing someday, the Redsea Maxx Nano AIO is what I will be considering
Something about this aquarium set up video is funny, and that's you😆

I've wanted to see someone really do this tank some good
Salut Jake et merci pour cette vidéo très sympathique !!!
Bonjour également à toutes ton équipe, vraiment merci ... ❤❤❤
Aquatopia made a neat reef with light/hood. Best little reef ive had. I cannot stand open top tanks
Got this tank looking forward to all content!

Did you add the carbon in this tank? In the videos I didnt see any parts about the back filtration and what you added in there
Can't wait to see all the parts😍
one a day all this week!
Im waiting!

I was going to purchase one as well then RedSea sent me an email on the XL300.

Just a heater
@@ReefBuildersVideo which heater would you recommend?
I thought that the red Sea Max nano came with an ai prime hd NOT A REEF LED 50
Love the video Jake.
will this a perfect for a freshwater aquarist going to saltwater
Jake I have a quick question to ask what would you recommend for a beginner a clown fish or a puffer fish
Do I have to wait for the calendar to turn to 2020 for this video to be relevant? 🤪

Nice vid like alweys. The moust important thing on a protein skimmer its the needleweel impeler it will be nice if we can see it on this one. Thanks

Nice intro music rhythm… got a name?
I am amazed by how much this tank actually cost, given the fact that it comes with tank atand and light is a factor but stil a bit pricey.
What light settings for the blue and white did you use?
Can you mount a reefled 90 on that, instead of the 50?
Does anyone know who makes the solid lid for the nano? To keep evap down.
So nice I desperately need help

Nice vid tho thought no need for the other camera view (with the guy) while unboxing.
