I’m glad they shut off the third/power rail during nighttime maintenance to reduce the risk of electrocution. So many people working on the metro north railroad tracks and subway tracks in New York City have been killed doing the same kind of work but because the SkyTrain ends service before maintenance begins the work is a lot safer
I have interacted with several skytrain staff including sta's and maintenance workers and always found them to be dedicated and hard working. Wish to do the same when I join translink
I know COVID-19 is causing TransLink to lose millions of dollars a day, but as long as the SkyTrain still runs after the pandemic’s over I’m riding it!
Hi Der, their title would be Train Control Operator and they all start off as a SkyTrain Attendant, because familiarity with the inner workings of SkyTrain is very important. ^at
@@EjayDjay98 lol looking back at this three years later.. thats me making that announcement. It is a pretty intense position, training takes about.2 years to be fully certified as an Automated Train Control Operator. Skytrain is a great place to work, I am not sure if you were able to get on.
I am glad that Translink chose not to extend the skytrain service hours, I live next to a skytrain station and just happy that I dont have to suffer the noise every night. What a relief to hear this news. Please address the high noise levels around the stations.
Hi Quons, we're running 2-car trains on the Millennium Line but that allows us to run trains more frequently, which means a shorter wait. There hasn't been a decrease in service the Evergreen Extension opened. We know the Millennium Line is busy and we continue to add service to it. The new SkyTrain cars are rolling into service now and it's going to allow us to increase service on all three lines, including the Millennium Line by 23 per cent. Hope this helps! ^at
Hi Jacob, the equipment is stored there so we can maximize the amount of time we have for running rail replacement near Main Street-Science World Station, which is happening through the summer. The work will move to another area along the Expo Line in the fall. ^at
Funny how The London Tube can do overnight service on a 150 year old system, but we can't because our ancient 30 year old system needs so much maintenance.
Thank you for your comment. Our upmost priority for customers is keeping the system safe and clean for daily use. As part of the independent study, we did look at the London Underground. Have a look at page 43 for their findings on how London’s able to do it: www.translink.ca/About-Us/Media/2019/June/TransLink-releases-report-on-late-night-transit-service.aspx. For a summary of the report’s findings, you can also take a look at this post: buzzer.translink.ca/2019/06/translink-releases-report-on-late-night-transit-service/.
@@TransLink I read the London Tube portion of the report. Yes, some costs & difficulties getting Nigth Tube up & running, but NOTHING undoable. PLUS at least 2X as many riders as expected. We NEED this. Way overdue!
The SkyTrain is automated which means there’s a bigger risk of maintenance workers getting hit by a train if the computer controlling the train malfunctions. At least on the Tube, the trains have drivers
London Underground have also invested in a quality track lubricant for over 25years, halving their requirement to maintain and replace track, allowing trains to run more frequent and for longer. www.rsclare.com/case-studies/newly-developed-curved-rail-grease-with-enhanced-fire-and-smoke-resistance-and-low-fume-toxicity-for-london-underground-metro-network/
Kudos to the hard working ST team to keep the system up and running, this is not an easy work to plan and execute.

Keep up the good work guys.
Metro Vancouver is proud of their Skytrain and so they should be.

SkyTrain maintenance workers are awesome!!
Thank you!

Regarding 2:28, what would be the job title of a position like that at Skytrain control? Also what would the qualifications typically look like?

@@TransLink I see, thank you. I'll keep that in mind.
