@mindsync It means that the CIA has too much money to give a damn about a few hundred million dollars. Considering the annual budget they have, they'd prefer plaudits over the winning money.
Actually, David Hedison played Felix Leiter in both 1973's "Live & Let Die" and in 1989's "License to Kill" before Jeffrey Wright's turn. Hedison had also played Captain Crane in the 1960s series "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" and was originally offered the role of Mike Brady in "The Brady Bunch", before Robert Reed was cast. Hedison recently passed away in June of 2019.
It’s funny how Felix gives bond his chips to keep him going, and in “No time to die”, Felix takes the bullet to keep bond going. Felix is one hell of a friend.
You have to remember this is a little time after bond got his 00 license, literally a rookie in his first, major, important mission. His success or failure would greatly define his career in the eyes of MI6. He was unexperienced, brash, impulsive, egotistical (more than usual) and arrogant, to the point of not giving a damn about the repercussions and wanting to shiv le chiffre out of anger. He commited some rookie mistakes: drank the poisoned martini, lost the bet, got caught and was at the mercy of le chiffre, and so on, somebody always came and bailed him out of his mistakes. He learned his trade on a trial by fire, and got lucky.

@@Matt90Nine While I understand and appreciate your point, I still think it's ironic. Because you would expect the hero to be morally different from the villain, yet he does the same exact thing as Chiffre does when he loses everything. So the irony is that when the chips are down, our beloved hero is as bad as the villain. "Nobody is sat around talking about the irony of Iron Man murdering terrorists, because it isn't ironic", I agree, but if Iron Man threatened and attempted to kill the terrorsists' families, it would be ironic because he's acting like a terrorist himself. That's what Bond's doing; he is resorting to violence, attacking Chiffre and possibly his girlfriend for extra pressure, which was the same exact thing Chiffre does in the end. And Bond's demeanour during the scene clearly exhibits this act was out of pure rage and helplessness rather than a thought out plan. In that moment, he has become the villain and I deem that ironic.
@@Matt90Nine I have to disagree. I don't believe that scene in particular is within Bond's character at all. You can tell by the way he talks to the bartender as well. He's clearly on tilt from losing all his chips to a bad beat and being outplayed, he can't buy-in again, and he's going after a well-protected "bad guy" with only a kitchen knife and 0 backup plans. He's clearly rushing it, and would've been most definitely dead if Felix hadn't stopped him. You say nothing is surprising to the audience in that scene, but I think it is. He is out of line.
On first seeing this in cinema I hadn't read the book at the time, but seen all the other movies, so having Felix show up here was such a welcome surprise! Yes he was in the novel so more or less had to appear; but in the moment of the movie then, it felt like very, very tasteful fan service that served the story.
Don’t forget Vesper, Mathis, M, and most importantly his Aston Martin that he won from Le Chiffre’s bomb makers which eventually got destroyed in Skyfall
If Robert Pattinson gets cast as the new Bond (he has the support of Daniel Craig and Danny Boyle), John David Washington absolutely has to get cast as Felix Leiter.
I loved how they set up their working relationship: Bond thwarts a terrorist attack in Miami, and a grateful CIA sends Felix who is more than happy to help Bond if the need arises.
this is one of my favorite scenes in all of the bond movies, i feel like it showed him in his truest form, behind all the charm, beautiful women, sports cars, nice suits and fancy hotels at his core he truly is a trained, merciless killer who will stop at nothing to finish the job. Had Felix not intervened he was perfectly fine with stabbing that man with a steak knife in the middle of a packed casino, in front of everyone. He wasn't considering anything or anyone else besides completing the mission...... this movie is a masterpiece.
@@david.l8698 mo the hands they all have. In this one hes got aces full vs quad jacks and later theres a top end straight vs ace high flush vs aces full again vs the straight knot flush :D These hands are sooooo insane but still a great film
That’s my one critique of an otherwise perfect film. I would’ve preferred if Bond had a two pair and then Le Chiffe managed a three of a kind. It would’ve felt more realistic.
Now when I see this scene, I see "Vesper's" reaction in a different light. She wouldn't be that angry and Upset on Bond losing, as she was working for "Quantum". At this point in time in the movie, her actual job is very clear cut. Everything is ok if Bond loses....and in case he wins, gain his trust, and get the money back to "Quantum" which ultimately is sub group under "SPECTRE".
The first Bond film of Daniel Craig which I fell in love with a thousand times, I've watched it for the. 50 th times and never get tired of it, its a true classic O07 and he looks so fresh young and it was always so exciting watching him over and over again .....💖💕🌹👏👏👏
I saw this movie when I was 13 with a friend. I remember he didn't really like the movie because there was ''too much talking'' ...I loved all that dialogue, and it made me realise that action and explosions weren't necessarily the best thing in movies. All that dialogue, that banter... I loved it!
3:32 I first saw this movie in theaters with my parents. My dad who loved the James Bond films, he was a Sean Connery fan freaked out Felix Leiter introduced himself to Bond
Always wished Jeffrey Wright had a bigger part in this film,,, just a bit bigger,,, because I think it's the definitive Felix Leiter performance,,, in any bond film. And as others have said : "Does it look like we need the money?" might the the coolest line in the whole film.
Just to be clear Bond was ahead with Kings full on the Turn card. Le Chiffre rivers Quads. Tbh he was chasing the entire time. The only thing Bond could’ve done different is shove on the flop. He would’ve gotten called anyways
Guys I have a question:- After Bond defeated Le Chiffre and said "he's all yours, much appreciated brother" why did Felix just disappear?? Wasn't he supposed to take him in to custody? He didn't even come to rescue Bond, it was Mr White who came to the rescue instead
I don’t think he was aware of bond’s location when he got kidnapped. Also it’s possible he was looking for le chifre at the time but escaped and that’s when Vesper was kidnapped. There was no one to take in at the end since le chifre was killed.
Fun fact: After his successful stint as a CIA operative, Felix Leiter retired from the department and joined the Gotham Police force under his real name James W. Gordon. He climbed through the ranks and became the city’s commissioner after 10 years of service.
I liked the interactions between Felix and Bond in the old films, but while I don't like the Daniel Craig films, on thing of a few they got way right was how awesome they made Leiter in this version. I just love their interaction here, and I'm sad we didn't get to see more of him. Honestly, I'd love to see a spinoff series with Leiter.
He's about to be Commissioner Gordon in the next Batman movie. Something about going from Felix Leiter in the Bond franchise to Commissioner Gordon in the Batman franchise respectively is just beautiful.
At 3:05 when Bond sees Le Chiffre & Co., I'm confused, does he see something particularly alarming there or does he just want to dispose of Le Chiffre right then and there out of anger so he takes the table knife to try and kill him with it.
He's angry he he just lost that round and I get the idea he doesn't see the point in the whole poker game when M assigns him to and vesper didnt give him anymore money so he goes in to dispose of Him.
He knows that Le Chiffre will win the game and get the money, and use it to fund terrorism. That will not happen if he is dead. Bond has lost the game, but his mission is to stop Le Chiffre. He's failed option A, time for option B.
“Does it look like we need the money?”

He is out of line.
amazing. the best bond film ever
On first seeing this in cinema I hadn't read the book at the time, but seen all the other movies, so having Felix show up here was such a welcome surprise! Yes he was in the novel so more or less had to appear; but in the moment of the movie then, it felt like very, very tasteful fan service that served the story.
"You lost because of your ego".. no you told Le Chiffre that Bond knew his tell.
I think it was that old guy (I guess named Mathis) who told it
@@anonfromearthNo, it was her. That's why she betrayed him in the end.
@@anonfromearth It was vesper who told le chiffre about Bond's tell. Mathis was loyal and got blame shifted
Greatest bond film ever made. The Connery films come close but this is just sublime.
I think people underestimate how dangerous Bond can be when he's angry.
“Does it look like we need the money”. Legend.
One of the best bond films ever, one of the best bond songs ever and one of the best bonds ever
Bond: And what about the winnings?
Leiter: Does it look like we need the money?

RIP Felix
RIP Bond
And ... RIP good cinema as a whole
Don’t forget Vesper, Mathis, M, and most importantly his Aston Martin that he won from Le Chiffre’s bomb makers which eventually got destroyed in Skyfall

Thanks for adding this scene! The other version on YT are crap quality, and never include the poker scene beforehand.
If Robert Pattinson gets cast as the new Bond (he has the support of Daniel Craig and Danny Boyle), John David Washington absolutely has to get cast as Felix Leiter.
Who’s the protagonist?

Felix was a wonderful addition to the story. An agent from elsewhere also fighting the good fight
I loved how they set up their working relationship: Bond thwarts a terrorist attack in Miami, and a grateful CIA sends Felix who is more than happy to help Bond if the need arises.
I can't believe I didn't realize it was Miami, thought it was cuba or something.
this is one of my favorite scenes in all of the bond movies, i feel like it showed him in his truest form, behind all the charm, beautiful women, sports cars, nice suits and fancy hotels at his core he truly is a trained, merciless killer who will stop at nothing to finish the job. Had Felix not intervened he was perfectly fine with stabbing that man with a steak knife in the middle of a packed casino, in front of everyone. He wasn't considering anything or anyone else besides completing the mission...... this movie is a masterpiece.
This scene is so heartbreaking after watching No Time To Die 😭
not enough emojis

Edit: 🅱️
There's no action, no violence, no sex... But the scene of Felix and 007 on the stairs might be my favourite scene in a Bond film.
the sex would be a little awkward in this scene
Looking back, the hands they all have through this whole film are a bit of a joke. Still my favourite Bond film
Are you on about how much money they have?
@@david.l8698 mo the hands they all have. In this one hes got aces full vs quad jacks and later theres a top end straight vs ace high flush vs aces full again vs the straight knot flush :D
These hands are sooooo insane but still a great film
@@matt5743 you have to think about it as highlights, from hours upon hours of hands, but its still true haha
That’s my one critique of an otherwise perfect film. I would’ve preferred if Bond had a two pair and then Le Chiffe managed a three of a kind. It would’ve felt more realistic.
@@zacktobin8026 I would have preferred Bond to be smooth charismatic and sophisticated like Brosnan but we can't have everything
The rest of his best friend. He asked 007 for help at the first and finally part. What a strong relationship 👏🏼👏🏼
Hits different after No Time To Die
When Felix went down and James watched him go down in water, it was like he re-lived the same moment all over again when Vesper drowned to her death
Now when I see this scene, I see "Vesper's" reaction in a different light. She wouldn't be that angry and
Upset on Bond losing, as she was working for "Quantum".
50 th times and never get tired of it, its a true classic O07 and he looks so fresh young and it was always so
exciting watching him over and over again .....💖💕🌹👏👏👏
Le Chiffre: You must have thought I was bluffing Mr Bond.
Bond: Bro, I had an AK full-house!

Yeah, vesper saying that bond lost because of his ego, aces full of kings is an easy shove
“Does it look like we need the winnings?”
Nah, that’s cos you’re working to retrieve the stolen engraving plates with an A-Team!
I saw this movie when I was 13 with a friend. I remember he didn't really like the movie because there was ''too much talking''
...I loved all that dialogue, and it made me realise that action and explosions weren't necessarily the best thing in movies. All that dialogue, that banter... I loved it!
The older one gets the more they come to the realisation that action scenes and gratuitous violence is the most inane part of films.
0:43 Gotta love Le Chiffre slow rolling there.
i like Daniel Craig the most, best bond, whole new level of Bond
Mr Coach, not even close to the best
he still among one of greatest Villains
it's ws sad after all Bond did to save him an lady friend he still tried to kill Bond

I first saw this movie in theaters with my parents.
Shaken or stirred?
Do I look like I give a damn?!
I like this raw less fancy version of bond
It was that moment he spoke that line that I knew he was Bond, James Bond.
He actually said on a recent interview on Kimmel that line is the reason he wanted to be James Bond
RIP Felix and Bond! 🙏
this films is nearly 20 years old, CR was such a modern day classic and a really good reboot of the franchise, still a very underrated
Just to be clear Bond was ahead with Kings full on the Turn card. Le Chiffre rivers Quads. Tbh he was chasing the entire time. The only thing Bond could’ve done different is shove on the flop. He would’ve gotten called anyways
Amazing scene !
I had a brother. His name was Felix Leiter. Those who know, know.
2:01 Foreshadows the look he gives Swann in the NTTD US trailer
Spoiler Alert: Well,Everyone present in that shot is dead. Bond,Vesper,Felix,Le Chiffre,Mathis

OH SHIT! LEITER IS A BALLER!
I love the little "oups" with Mads' voice. His unnatural english voice thanks to danish origins is such ASMR to me.

@@Hawthorne-Studioshe didn't see james
Nice to see Hannibal and Inspector Pazzi in a Bond movie.
Best line: Do i look Iike i give a damn
His desperation is at another level. Loved him throughout ❤️
Guys I have a question:-
After Bond defeated Le Chiffre and said "he's all yours, much appreciated brother" why did Felix just disappear?? Wasn't he supposed to take him in to custody? He didn't even come to rescue Bond, it was Mr White who came to the rescue instead
I don’t think he was aware of bond’s location when he got kidnapped. Also it’s possible he was looking for le chifre at the time but escaped and that’s when Vesper was kidnapped. There was no one to take in at the end since le chifre was killed.
This could be explained in No time to die. I think Felix could be the real boss🤣
CIA probably had black vans to scoop him up
If I'm not mistaken Le Chiffre removed Bond's tracking GPS

Excellent scene in james bond movie
I liked the interactions between Felix and Bond in the old films, but while I don't like the Daniel Craig films, on thing of a few they got way right was how awesome they made Leiter in this version. I just love their interaction here, and I'm sad we didn't get to see more of him. Honestly, I'd love to see a spinoff series with Leiter.
”Should I recruit him as A Guardian of the Multiverse?” Nah.
I understood that reference.
Classic!!!! Bond looking vulnerable here!!!
This bond is different. The sigma man!!!!
I'd love to see the actor of Felix in more things
He's very good in Westworld. Season one is excellent and more or less forms a complete story. It rapidly goes downhill after that. 😆
@@criticalbil1 very very rapidly

He's about to be Commissioner Gordon in the next Batman movie. Something about going from Felix Leiter in the Bond franchise to Commissioner Gordon in the Batman franchise respectively is just beautiful.
Jeffery Wright?
“Get the girl out!”
Jeffery Wright and Jack Lord are my two favourite Felix's.
Eva Green is so pretty. I loved her in Kingdom of Heaven and 300! Played a crazy lady in Sin City
At 3:05 when Bond sees Le Chiffre & Co., I'm confused, does he see something particularly alarming there or does he just want to dispose of Le Chiffre right then and there out of anger so he takes the table knife to try and kill him with it.
The latter is correct
He's angry he he just lost that round and I get the idea he doesn't see the point in the whole poker game when M assigns him to and vesper didnt give him anymore money so he goes in to dispose of Him.
He knows that Le Chiffre will win the game and get the money, and use it to fund terrorism. That will not happen if he is dead.
Bond has lost the game, but his mission is to stop Le Chiffre. He's failed option A, time for option B.
Lost at the game, & wanted revenge for Le Chiffre poising him prior to loosing the poker game.
@@iTzFabi23 No, Le Chiffre poisons him later in the film.
This is the best bond movie. The acting and script writing alone
In Daniel's era of 007, I'd say Felix and Mathis were Bond's only true friends.
