The build quality thing has been fixed though. Ever since late 2022/2023, the Model Y build quality has been on par with legacy automakers. The Highland Model 3 is quieter and has superior build quality to any similarly priced Toyota Camry. And yes Model 3 and Camry cost the same now with same option equipment.
@ that has been my experience so far. we got the 2024 Model Y and my car is very well put together, all the materials are soft touch, all the windows are dual paned glass. I was very confused what people keep talking about quality. lol
@ The biggest complaints on the Model Y from 2020-2022 was build quality and ride quality/interior noise levels. End of 2022 they really ironed out and fixed the build quality issues and changed up materials inside to lessen interior noise. In 2023 they put a new comfort suspension in the Model Y and that made the ride SO much better.
Having spoken to many car RUclipsrs who genuinely live in fear of the wrath of Tesla fanboys, this was the best "we cant piss them off too much" review of a Tesla I've seen so far, and I've seen lots. You've successfully ridden the line 👍
If you haven't tried the phone-as-key thing you're missing out on what makes it BETTER than any other key. I always have my phone with me but often forget a car key.
You set up the key cards and your phone when you get the car. If you use your phone you just open the door and go, if you use the key card you tap the B pillar outside and same thing. Doesn't need to be placed anywhere, that's just for setup. Looks like you're driving a RWD as well. I have one and you're spot on with if you're just wanting something boring to go A-B comfortably and with no fuss, small running costs then this is it. It is boring but sometimes that's all you need to do the daily duties.
Finally a Model Y. Please review the Model Y performance, it will change your mind. FSD is sketchy but this car is great. Still love mine after 40k miles in 2 years.
In my view this is one of the only downsides to the Y, and Teslas overall. Automatic wipers are the pits. Don't work when they should, and clean frantically when they shouldn't. Everything else is great.
You really can't review the car without reviewing the app. Especially on a channel that historically covers every detail of the tech. Some of the in app features are actually priceless, especially if you live in Canada where it's generally colder.
I've gotta say, I put Continental Tires on my Mountain Bike, these weren't off road tires BUT, they were AMAZING ! I had grip that I never felt before! if I locked up the rear tire on the road even for a moment, it let out a chirp that actually echoed! People thought it was a car skidding. I recommend Continentals. if they make Bike tires that good... imagine Car tires! NEVER cheap out on tires, Brakes, ABS, everything can only work as good as your tires can grip. Lose a little milage but hey, that one day you need it, you'll be thankful you had them !
Nobody uses the keycard on a daily basis (If you are and own a tesla you’re doing it wrong).you just use your phone. The keycard is in case your phone dies.
5:00 - its kind of hard to process dropping the reality of no key fob or physical key vs. credit card.. However to be honest, owning a tesla 5 years now, I've never had a point in ownership where the phone, app, credit card, or my custom rings I had made, failed me, EVER. So its just one of those things if you actually had it for awhile you would figure that out. Software is king - the theme of the tesla platform to be honest. Some can hate all they want on the UI (blah blah) but so many manufactures just suck, so much.
The comment section on Tesla reviews are the worst of any car. Worse than Porsche and hyundai reviews. It doesn't help they aren't being as genuine as normal
Nice to see a not rage filled comments section on Tesla for once. I can't wait to see the "Cheap Tesla" that is supposed to compete with BYD! Might be a review this year?
I just bought a 2021 model y. Its got a few quirks but overall pretty great. You hit on most of the highpoints. Its a new way to toally rethink transportation appliances. Its more similar to a personal computer than an automobile.
Ontarian here. Bought a 2024 model y awd long range for commuting. 200-250kms a day are put on it. Solid car, fun to drive and no gas. Even towed my boat with it. Elon is nuts, but these cars are great. Would definitely buy another.
I tried going with a different electric car but none really compare to the Tesla. Way more storage and new fsd is insane. Also, so many fun features for kids and family.
Voice commands work for most of things on the screen you use daily, including wiper speeds and HVAC. Picked a 2024 Model 3 over the Model Y because the model 3 rode so much better. Hopefully the Model Y refresh will fix the ride quality. I went from no way I'd ever own a EV to leasing the Model 3. I was looking the most affordable vehicle with amenities like heated and ventilated seats and the lease deals on the Model 3 were just hard to beat. It's just a good vehicle if you like sedans. Maybe the refreshed Model Y will have all the same qualities with a hatch. If you can charge at home, you'll save a bunch of money on fuel and it's so convenient to just plug in at home versus going to gas stations. I agree 100 percent on the 360 camera.
After the 4k dollar tax credit, i got a 22 model 3 for 16k. Its actually incredible how easy this car is for a daily driver. I love it. The mini cooper is the fun car
also on the cult thing. I bought a model 3 and then after using the supercharger network and seeing all the things it can do compared to the other brands.... kinda just made me feel like Tesla is the better EV to buy. That opinion may change over the years as more EVs are on the road, but for now they are best.
@ yes I have started to see other cars now, but I only use them on trips because I charge at home. I've heard some Tesla owners switched to the Mustang Mach e and really like it, as well as the Cadillac Lyriq
M3P for 5 years and MY for 3 - for daily driving, commute, shop run, almost everything - there are no better cars out there. I would go so far as to say the Model 3 and now Y refresh are the best cars in the world as a value proposition and daily use case. I still have an exige in the garage for track fun. Good luck getting to 2 million - it would be well deserved.
Yuri. you can get the Key Fob for the Y as well. but why would you want one. it's just another extra thing to carry with you. and phone key is part of the Tesla experience. I've only had my first Tesla for 3 months, and I can tell you that you don't know what you're missing until you actually start using the phone key everyday. it acts like a Fob anyways, you have it in your pocket and you just walk up open doors like normal. car locks unlocks with proximity like it would with a key fob. best of all you don't have to have extra car keys in your pocket. carrying car key fobs now feels prehistoric TBH. its just so intuitive to have.
I love my 2020 Model Y LR. The stock suspension and 20” Induction wheels weren’t great so I upgraded to the Mountain Pass Performance off-road kit, MPP adjustable coilovers, Method 502 wheels (18"), and Falken Wildpeak A/T Trails (255/55R18). It feels like a totally different vehicle and rides much more like a high-end crossover. After going through a couple tires due to pinch flats on the OEM 20" Induction wheels this setup is much more isolated on bumpy roads and resilient to the occasional curb bump.
Terrible job this time boys. You spent no effort in getting to know how to use the car. Most of the user interface points you made have direct shortcuts via using a 2 press combination between a stalk and one of the wheel scrolls. Just sloppy work
Ok boomer. What do you need buttons and switches to control? The climate is auto, you set a temp and the car maintains it, just like your house thermostat. Radio and media controls are a physical scroll wheel on the steering wheel. Cruise/autopilot controls are the other physical scroll wheel on the steering wheel. Everything that you need to control while driving has a physical control right at the drivers fingertips in a Tesla. The only thing you need the screen for is to input navigation destinations and having a big screen for that is ideal.
@@zoppp621 I still often adjust the temperature in my car, even though it is automatic. I also like to have control over my wipers, heated seats, and other critical functions. Taking those away and putting them behind a touch screen just saves the company money and puts the drivers in more danger by forcing them to take their eyes off of the road. Additionally, your ageism just further weakens your argument. And I'm not even a baby boomer, I'm a millennial
Phone key primary key. Key card fits in my wallet as backup key. Smart lock for home. I only carry my phone and wallet. Feels good to not carry keys around. I could go further and carry a drivers license and secondary credit card in my phone case coupled with digitizing all my credit cards on phone.

@@TheStraightPipes No, just get close to the car, open the door and start driving. And it works with multiple phones at the same time so depending on which family member (phone ofc) unlocks the car, it will automatically adjust seats, mirrors, steering wheel position and everything else in the settings even down to EQ settings...

At about 12:18 , out of Yuri's passenger window, you can see a posted sign in front of someone's driveway, and also a lot of black trash bags or something piled up on the curb, which might've been mistaken by the system for a stop sign from it's perspective angle or due to lighting. The black trash bags may have also blended with the road to make the road outline look like some crazy shape, confusing the Autopilot system. Regardless of what caused it, it's worth remembering that you want the system to play things safe in moments when it's confused or unsure, so I don't think it would be fair to dwell on or criticize the system for this incident too much.
I'm with you @moogle68 - when in FSD, safer is better. It is a computer assessing imperfect conditions and situations based on camera input, after all. This is hardly an issue to worry about. I'd be curious how many fender benders the critic has been in?
I actually love the 360 parking feature. Not as good as my previous BMW 530i but it works really good specially after a bunch of updates. I think the cameras are not placed perfectly for 360 stitching. They are places perfectly for autopilot.
the phone as a key is awesome, you never have to pull it out of your pocket. Just get in and start driving, or get out and walk away and it'll auto lock.
You guys need to do a dedicated Tesla FSD V13.2.2 episode on a HW V4 car. Calling it now, it is very, very close to self driving. I would like to see you guys break it doing something normal.
you can turn off the one pedal in Model 3, so I assume it works in Model Y, it's called Roll in the menu. My wife likes it and I hate it, sometimes she has it on and then I nearly crash into the garage while parking.
Both are excellent. The car heats up faster than an ICE based on electric heat pump activation, and you can start heating from your app, or based on a scheduled departure time. AC is also great, and similarly, you can pre-cool your car or maintain it at a set temperature while you're away - all options through a very intuitive and comprehensive app.
You would either own a Tesla or know someone who has one to be able to see all the controls and benefits on the Tesla app. The key fob is cool until you lose it, damage it or it requires a new battery. Please watch a video or talk to the Tesla rep to demo the Tesla app.
@MugatuJag might depend on the market. Mine still has the option but doesn't have the UI that looks like the Cybertruck even though it has received every major update like the US versions.
@SergioVelez88 perhaps in the US it's the 2020 in Prior Tesla's that have it, I actually love the low regen feature nd I'm bummed that they took it out but it was for mileage estimates and EPA reasons apparently
The suspension is one of the biggest shortfalls in the Y. The Juniper addresses that along with NVH. One pedal driving results in going weeks without touching the brake pedal.
Any FSD anxiety goes away quickly with a bit of experience, and when you realize how amazingly it works. I think it's mostly safer than human driving alone, but it's entirely safer in combination with being supervised and managed by a person.
I've owned several sports cars/suv's over the years. Porsche Macan GTS, Ferrari 458, Mustang Gt350. I don't get all the hate regarding the Model Y. Yes, all of the noise and sensations are missing but the overall driving experience is great! It's a street legal go kart and it's as fast as you need to go period. I get the plaid and think the speed is incredible, but it's not useful in most situations. Sending the Model Y Performance some love :) Adding to the fact your apple watch can be your key or just a small credit card sized key is crazy! The MYP hauls butt and can keep up if not beat most cars in the 500HP range.
I think "street legal go-kart" is the clue to the hate. You're using the phrase to emphasize how quick it is for its size or price. An older use of the phrase meant the car has direct-feeling steering and handling that let you pick a line around a corner. When you use the phrase, I think others get dismissive because steer, brake, and throttle by wire is the opposite of a go-kart experience to older car enthusiasts.
Tesla is not only selling a car, they are selling an ecosystem, much similar to the one of Apple. It may not be technically the best "phone" (Samsung has better specs) but the software integration and the supercharger network just makes everything run smoothly, just better than the competition, new and old.
I think its a great rolling jellybean when I'm not using my v8 toys however I notice other drivers are extremely aggressive when I drive it versus my other toys.
Picked up a low mileage '22 Model Y Performance for 30k in November. It is plenty fun, before kids i had an '18 Mustang GT and I can say everything about the MYP is more engaging than the Mustang orher than the sound. I agree it does feel small, more like a large sedan with a hatch. It is nowhere as practical as our GX460.

What are those other issues?
@ that has been my experience so far. we got the 2024 Model Y and my car is very well put together, all the materials are soft touch, all the windows are dual paned glass. I was very confused what people keep talking about quality. lol
@ The biggest complaints on the Model Y from 2020-2022 was build quality and ride quality/interior noise levels. End of 2022 they really ironed out and fixed the build quality issues and changed up materials inside to lessen interior noise. In 2023 they put a new comfort suspension in the Model Y and that made the ride SO much better.
Why is build quality an issue with Teslas? Why is ride quality an issue.
Having spoken to many car RUclipsrs who genuinely live in fear of the wrath of Tesla fanboys, this was the best "we cant piss them off too much" review of a Tesla I've seen so far, and I've seen lots. You've successfully ridden the line 👍
Haha
How are the haters not 100 times more annoying minimum? When have you ever see a nice comments section for Tesla?
Lmao was thinking the same thing
If you haven't tried the phone-as-key thing you're missing out on what makes it BETTER than any other key. I always have my phone with me but often forget a car key.
I want to see them do a long form FSD review. Fun watching their reactions.
Wipers are automatic. If you ever want to manually actuate them, press the end of the stalk. Stop using the screen - it’s not needed.
@@aussie2uGA if only they'd get the auto wiper pipeline perfect though 😅
Even better - press the end of the stalk, and adjust setting with left roller wheel. Easy!
Yes, the auto wipers are terrible. Software should be able to fix that.
This review will be the basis for anyone looking for a good deal on a used Model Y
Your APPLE WATCH can be the key now! I love that
The Model Y is appliance perfected… simply put.
Nobody uses the keycard on a daily basis (If you are and own a tesla you’re doing it wrong).you just use your phone. The keycard is in case your phone dies.
And for valet parking. Only rare occasions.
Some can hate all they want on the UI (blah blah) but so many manufactures just suck, so much.
why are we reviewing a model y in 2025 lol
nothing has changed?
Because we haven’t reviewed one. Simple
@@TheStraightPipes hahaha fair enough!
You guys mailed this one in
Canada Post
I think FSD thought that car was pulling out at 12:11 while you were looking at the wiper controls and it started to slow.
The comment section on Tesla reviews are the worst of any car. Worse than Porsche and hyundai reviews. It doesn't help they aren't being as genuine as normal
they are being genuine. they don't like EVs because they're horrible compared to gas sports cars.
Phone with a Key - come on Yuri, get with it bruh!
Is the audio a little off on this video?
People hate on these cars, but I had one for a month and the self-driving to work was amazing.
The inside feels cheap to be honest.
Shhh, you're supposed to hate on it and elon simultaneously. Stay the course...
I'm curious, how the heck does the interior feel cheap?
@ loose fittings. The sun visor kept falling down. Plastic creaking.
Some hate on them.
It was the top selling vehicle in the world in 2024😂
And the ride is far too solid for what's supposed to be a comfy daily.
I tried going with a different electric car but none really compare to the Tesla. Way more storage and new fsd is insane. Also, so many fun features for kids and family.
Yall gotta review the model s Plaid
Guys, try to get the Model S or X Plaid...
Deal
@@donaldholtzman5429the network advantage is kind of a moot point now that it’s opened up to other manufacturers
@ yes I have started to see other cars now, but I only use them on trips because I charge at home. I've heard some Tesla owners switched to the Mustang Mach e and really like it, as well as the Cadillac Lyriq
@@donaldholtzman5429 I got an Ioniq 5 Limited and it's the best car I've ever owned. The '25 has a NACS port too
M3P for 5 years and MY for 3 - for daily driving, commute, shop run, almost everything - there are no better cars out there. I would go so far as to say the Model 3 and now Y refresh are the best cars in the world as a value proposition and daily use case.
I still have an exige in the garage for track fun.
Good luck getting to 2 million - it would be well deserved.
You guys definitely need to review the refreshed version of the Y when it comes out within the first year 😂😂
We have a model y performance and it definitely gets up and goes
You can buy a key fob. But I personally love not having a key.
Apple watch can also act as your key now. It was added in the last update.
Yuri. you can get the Key Fob for the Y as well. but why would you want one. it's just another extra thing to carry with you. and phone key is part of the Tesla experience.
The struggle was real. 😂
Key card is only used as a backup. Phone key is great.
The most practical car.
Complaining about not having a key fob is beyond moronic, it's a massive positive for me
I don’t like having to take the key card out my pocket
@@TheStraightPipesYou just have to keep your phone in your pocket. No need for a card or key fob
Yo chill you know these guys read their comments you don't need to throw out such language.
Terrible job this time boys. You spent no effort in getting to know how to use the car. Most of the user interface points you made have direct shortcuts via using a 2 press combination between a stalk and one of the wheel scrolls.
Just sloppy work
It was a first drive video. Tesla only gave it to us for the day to review.
Driving a car should be intuitive and not require a course in Tesla weirdness.
Great video, the new Tesla model Y doesn't look much better to me, at least let's hope stalks are still in it😂😂
Yuri and Jacob look like they had been kept as hostage by Elon to make this video! :) Love from USA!!
We want a full fledged FSD V13 video from you guys. It was fun to see your reactions to FSD
what do you guys think of the temporary removal of the EV rebates
Great the cars should be appropriately priced and the market should decide
I agree. Just wish I bought one before they were gone lol
When will manufacturers realize that they need to give me stalks, buttons, knobs, and switches, or I don't want it
So do you have to take your phone out or is it proximity
@@TheStraightPipes proximity. Just like a key fob.
Amazing!
i see you guys were at limerage mall, that tesla showroom is pretty cool
Pander to the Tesla fanboys for subscriptions while barely hiding how you really think about them and QElon. Shout out Freedumb Convoy too....Subscribe! 😒
It’s actually susbcribe
@@TheStraightPipes Is that Canadia speak for subscribe? You should bring back the cutoff jorts whenever you do Tesla reviews.
John Cena style
@@TheStraightPipes U CAN'T SEE ME . Also, bring back the jumping high five from the C6 Z06 video.
Love the recent Tesla videos! Please do one with the new Model 3 Performance
You can do keyfob. But the phone key is amazing. i never think about it.
Does the phone need to come out of your pocket to get in and start?
@@TheStraightPipes No, just get close to the car, open the door and start driving. And it works with multiple phones at the same time so depending on which family member (phone ofc) unlocks the car, it will automatically adjust seats, mirrors, steering wheel position and everything else in the settings even down to EQ settings...
Nice!
@@TheStraightPipes Nope. Just walk close. I've got a 2019 Model 3 and it's flawless - even on Android.
The phone part is great. I literally have no keys. My house is Yale with a keypad. 🎉
Not for nothing guys, you guys an are making us culty! We just love our cars! Not sure what you’re talking about when you say it’s not a driver car though! The new Model 3 performance beat the BMW M3 competition on the track! You guys need to get some more time in one! Drive one for a month! Then make a review. Would love to know what you guys drive?
Yuri got a Miata prowler 350z abarth and cx5
thats the exact model I have! I ove the color!! SO cool to see it on video!
This is comical
@@drewfer5 How so?
Upvote! It was fun watching their reactions to the car crossing an intersection on its own. I want to see more
FSD is the future. I was shocked during my roadtrip from LA to San Francisco with out me needing to do anything!
you can turn off the one pedal in Model 3, so I assume it works in Model Y, it's called Roll in the menu. My wife likes it and I hate it, sometimes she has it on and then I nearly crash into the garage while parking.
What's the range on performance?
I have a key fob for my model 3. It’s a mini model 3 and you can open the doors, trunk, etc. I think it was $150 from Tesla.
So what are the heating and AC like?
Both are excellent. The car heats up faster than an ICE based on electric heat pump activation, and you can start heating from your app, or based on a scheduled departure time.
AC is also great, and similarly, you can pre-cool your car or maintain it at a set temperature while you're away - all options through a very intuitive and comprehensive app.
Stock wheels are heavy af, so getting lightweight wheels really help lower the rolling resistance. The base RWD is slow af too 😜
You would either own a Tesla or know someone who has one to be able to see all the controls and benefits on the Tesla app. The key fob is cool until you lose it, damage it or it requires a new battery. Please watch a video or talk to the Tesla rep to demo the Tesla app.
Can you guys do an in-depth review of FSD?
You can have a key fob 👍
You can turn off regenerative braking and lower it if you don't want it to brake as much 14:38
Not anymore, Tesla removed that option a while back...
@@MugatuJag could be, I've always kept it under full regen so I always forget that option even exists 😅
The suspension is one of the biggest shortfalls in the Y. The Juniper addresses that along with NVH. One pedal driving results in going weeks without touching the brake pedal.
Not a fan of the new refresh look. The Model 3 refresh looks much better than the Model Y refresh unfortunately.
yaaaaa I agree on that one
What happened to the horsepower and torque?
13:01 was great authentic reaction lol
Any FSD anxiety goes away quickly with a bit of experience, and when you realize how amazingly it works. I think it's mostly safer than human driving alone, but it's entirely safer in combination with being supervised and managed by a person.
Truly one of the cars of all time
Solid gold g shock?
I find the seat bases too short in length in the front and the back. No under thigh support.
No issue for me
where is the "Subcrieb" button? i can't find it
I've owned several sports cars/suv's over the years.
I test drove a 2024 Y AWD and a Performance. Both were more fun to drive than my wife’s 2020 Macan S
the random wiper is an ongoibg issue, also the build quality has improved ove the past few years.
Tesla is not only selling a car, they are selling an ecosystem, much similar to the one of Apple. It may not be technically the best "phone" (Samsung has better specs) but the software integration and the supercharger network just makes everything run smoothly, just better than the competition, new and old.
You already have a key fob - it’s your phone.
I think its a great rolling jellybean when I'm not using my v8 toys however I notice other drivers are extremely aggressive when I drive it versus my other toys.
"small car". Parks in normal parking space and barely can't get out here in Malaysia 😂. Model Y is BIG. Bigger than CRV actually
I don’t believe you two made any meaningful insights in this video
It was a video for us documenting our first drive in a model y
I just bought one a month ago in quick silver paint, it was too good of a deal to pass up
Picked up a low mileage '22 Model Y Performance for 30k in November. It is plenty fun, before kids i had an '18 Mustang GT and I can say everything about the MYP is more engaging than the Mustang orher than the sound.
I agree it does feel small, more like a large sedan with a hatch. It is nowhere as practical as our GX460.
Still really wish there was a Model 2… A Crossover hatchback that sits higher than the Model 3.
