I low key LOVE the tiny scene of crocodile going "yeah the key i gave them was fake anyway". Its a small, short scene, but it really exemplifies how Crocodile works as a villain. He doesn't leave things to chance, he sets up things ahead of time, and always has a backup plan. it's why he's gotten this far with his plan.
"I hope we get some answers to that" don't worry buddy, all questions will be answered. Some in 10 episodes, some in 200, another in 500 and some in 1000, but all answers will come eventually.
10:30 This interaction is so sweet cause luffy does things not because they benefit him but because its just the right thing to do. He might be a meathead but hes also and earnest guy that sticks to his ways even if they might get him into hot water with some people. Also that scene of crocodile impaling luffy is always chilling with the sound of the dripping blood.
Interesting fact, when Oda was originally designing the Straw Hats, Usopp WAS originally going to be the Vice Captain of the crew lol. Currently there is no official Vice Captain/First Mate of the crew.
Something to remember about Warlords and bounties - The warlords are pirates but they are government sanctioned Pirates. Any bounty they have came from before their time as a warlord and it was frozen once they became a warlord. I would assume that that Crocodiles bounty, if he were not a government-sanctioned, pirate, would be quite a bit higher than 70 million berries. Crocodile knows that having a DF alone isn't enough to guarantee success, no matter what it is. While devil fruits are rare, those who wish to rule the seas have made an effort to find one. ---------------------- That's a brutal end. Maybe we weren't ready for the Grand Line just yet. Nico Robin is a bit of an enigma. She's with Crocodile but it's seems she's not really _with_ Crocodile.
Im really wondering how the fight between Luffy and Crocodile is going to be in the live action , i hope it’s going to be brutal and bloody cause it’s pretty brutal in the anime , seing Luffy get stabed like that was very gruesome to me when i saw it for the first time.
Spoilers ahead Pretty much the entire Alabasta fight gets pretty brutal (I think only Chopper, Nami, and Vivi get out in more or less stable condition), but the running fight between Luffy and Crocodile especially (since not only do those two tear each other to pieces, but you have Cobra and Robin caught in the middle and they take some hard hits too). I think they could pull it off if they take their time, so it'll be interesting to see.
Won't be until the third season. They're stopping at Drum Island for the second season. I imagine there is going to be some sort of tease for the third season, based on their casting, but Alabasta will be the third season.
@@xelion8682 Based on how much they're promoting Joe Manganiello and Lera abova, unless they're adding a bunch of extra material with them before drum island, it's likely that they're already filming season 3 for alabasta and it will come earlier than we had to wait for season 2.
Smoker’s weapon is a giant “jitte” it’s like a police baton and was effective in disarming people with swords. Wikipedia says it’s a common misconception that the hook was used to catch the sword so how it was actually used is unknown to me. Anyone know?
This is a misconception of a misconception. You wouldn't use the hook to let a sword slide into it directy, as you'd pretty much allow them to still cut you, but you could block with the main shaft of a jitte, then control the sword by trapping it with the hook and twisting. Still pretty dangerous, but there is only so much you can do with a "non-weapon" against a sword. The hook can also be used for different holding techniques, but it is important to stress that the jitte is slightly more important as a symbol rather than an actual weapon. It's heavily associated with the crack down on personal weapon ownership in the edo-period.
@@maxpower2480 huh that gives me a lot of thoughts about Tashigi’s dream of taking all the famous weapons with her having a partner using a weapon with that symbolism.
@@The_dandy_zombie I've honestly never considered that, as Tashigi seems to operate more out of reverance for the craftsmanship rather than from a concern for public safety or to consolidate governmental power through weapon monopolization. On the surface it's just a police weapon from that era and Smoker basically acts like the gruff but fair cop archetype, but honestly good point there!
This is something to really look forward to every week. Glad we got to this part, this was always a very interesting arc given the fact even against the fishmen of the Arlong Pirates even then Luffy seemed pretty undeterred by them even with trapping him underwater and whatnot, but this is the first time he has been handed a complete defeat outright by an enemy who was incredibly strategic with his whole plan for this region. In short, Luffy's obliviousness had no effct and wouldn't let him off so easy, fighting Lyle Lyle... Crocodile
Man crocodile is such a level up from Arlong. As for Crocodiles words, I always took it as a lot devil root users learn what their abilities are and just rely on that so it's basically a big rock paper scissors. They don't try and figure out the ins and outs or they don't set things up to compliment their abilities. As soon as they get a matchup, and they all do eventually, they lose. Badly. Where as the heavy hitters in the world have adapted to their abilities, figured out ways to better utilize them or compensate for them as needed. They're dangerous no matter who they come across, bad matchup or not.
Except for cannon balls. Listen, I don't like him cutting that chain either, and you could make some argument for steel vs. iron, but let's not pretent here, that Oda is the most consistent of writers. Especially when it comes to skills and abilities.
@@maxpower2480 The cannon balls were ALSO filler. They were during the full body confrontation just after luffy got his 1st bounty, but in the manga right after luffy sees his bounty they skip immediately to Logue town. That confrontation is completely anime only.
@@Derekloffin You are right about that instance. (Stupid anyway, as there was no point in him cutting a ball that was clearly flying over the Going Mery) I was sure, though, that there were other instances before Alabaster. Also I lent someone the books who didn't return them before moving, so it has been a while since I was able to actually read the source material.
@@maxpower2480 I'm sorry mate, gotta disagree with you on that one. Yes, we can see that some stuffs were conveniently created to fit in eventually (such as Haki), but Oda's consistency is probably the best there is.
one thing that is lost in anime is that some traits of the characters appear in specific moments for character development reasons, and not everytime for fun gags. For example, it's not true that Usopp always lies and makes up stories: he doesn't in Little Garden where he feels fire for his dream, but he does it in Drum Island where he's extremely unlucky and has to cover up his insecurities, and he does it again in Alabasta when he's coping with the fear Luffy could fail against Crocodile. Same thing for Zoro. It's not true that he and Sanji always fight. Zoro doesn't always get irritated by Sanji, but he does when he's worried. They get along very well in normal conditions, but for now Zoro is the only one who faced a shichibukai and he's very aware of the situation, always, while Sanji acts like a simp as if they are not in mortal danger. So coming back to anime I feel that some dynamics are a bit lost
what the Luffy Vs Croc fight shows that I think makes OP so cool is how there's almost like a pokemon type situation of one devil fruit naturally can invalidate another, this one can circumvent that one, etc etc. it gives a different dynamic than other shonen anime Also I like how Croc got progressively more annoyed cuz he was trying to put fear into Luffy and Luffy is too dense and fearless for it to work
One Piece will give you a lot of questions, and slowly give you answers...usually while giving you even more questions. ;) But yes, you will get answers to your questions eventually, including Nico Robin's motivation. However, some of the things you're wondering about, we're still waiting to find out more about even to this day.
