I would skip all previous generations, if you don't already have a Ryzen CPU, and just get a 3XXX series one. Unless productivity is your thing I would suggest the R5 3600X. It is roughly equivalent to the i7 8700k stock.
Since you can get a Ryzen 5 2400g for 109€, the 3400g is pretty overpriced with 159€ for a 3-5% performance increase. You also can achieve this by slightly overclocking the 2400g.
The 2400g is about $30 cheaper here in Maple Syrup land (Canada). So the 3400g isn't priced to bad. The 2400g was like $240 up until last friday here, so the 3400g is actually not a half bad price for a brand new CPU
That's AMDs shtick, you can always overclock the previous version to match the new one, but you can also overclock the new version even higher. Think about the 1000 Ryzen line-up. 1600 can overclock to stock 1600X, 1600X can overclock to stock 1700, 1700 can overclock to stock 1700X etc etc. So you really should just buy the best you can afford with complete disregard of the overclocking potentials.
The 2200g and 2400g were actually Ryzen gen 1, 14nm and this is a second gen zen+ 12nm cpu. I'm hoping we get to see a 7nm APU within the next coming 4 months with 6 cores SMT, 3.9GHz base and Navi compute units for the iGPU!
This would be a great chip for that! Looks like you found a winner (it won’t be quite like the console though, you’ll be getting a bit too much performance to totally pass as a console, so call it an “Xbox PLUS” or something, haha!)
It's an okay option, really... Unless you want a tiny PC. Getting a 2600 with used 1060 3GB costs at most $80 more for much much better performance. 2600 can be found for $130 or so new and 1060 is on sale for $100 to $120 on AliExpress.
@@cunnyman The 3gb version is an ok budget option, but it is the cut down card. One of the reasons I never considered it since its a scam. 6 to 8 gigs of Vram is almost a must going forward. Even if you take into account buying for the next two years it makes sense. If you want 1080 high detail or better...New consoles will have even more vram than that which will put lower cards in jeopardy. The RX590 may be a power hog but its a 7 tflop gpu with 8 gigs of Vram and its less than 200 dollars. The new Navi APU coming out at the end of the year should also be a great option as I see it matching or exceeding low end cards, this is especially true now that Ryzen has memory compatibility up to 3600 without doing anything special.

@@KoryLunaa if he's talking in euros you can't compare because the hardware in the US is much, much cheaper than in Europe.
For reference, I just ran R15 with my 2400G at stock settings, and it got a multi-thread score of 801.
The 2200g and 2400g were actually Ryzen gen 1, 14nm and this is a second gen zen+ 12nm cpu. I'm hoping we get to see a 7nm APU within the next coming 4 months with 6 cores SMT, 3.9GHz base and Navi compute units for the iGPU!
i like it when you review by holding the item with the background of your home yard. It really refreshing for eyes
I was just watching the OG Xbox to Pc conversion video, and then this video comes, niceee👍
This would be a great chip for that! Looks like you found a winner (it won’t be quite like the console though, you’ll be getting a bit too much performance to totally pass as a console, so call it an “Xbox PLUS” or something, haha!)
Could you review the 3200g next?
difference will be small, take a 5% fps drop or something like that

4th Gen 7nm APUs are gonna be budget gamers go to option in my opinion.
It's an okay option, really... Unless you want a tiny PC.
Getting a 2600 with used 1060 3GB costs at most $80 more for much much better performance.
2600 can be found for $130 or so new and 1060 is on sale for $100 to $120 on AliExpress.
4th gen Ryzen APU will use Navi graphics instead of Vega, so it'll likely be much better
@@joshuasterling2144
Understandable. I only bring that up because of budget reason lol. I personally would never buy a card under 6GB VRAM.
@@cunnyman 1060 on aliexpress a usually a scam, they mostly are 750ti with moded bios.

This was the first video I saw about the 3400G. Great job on beating out the big guns getting this to us!
If you tested this with a few development builds of modern emulators, I'm sure it would get passed around those respective communities where budget/HTPC type builds are always in demand.
I believe this APU is perfect for 720p to 900p mixed settings so that the cpu and gpu work together better.
Thanks for making content for the budget gamers out there!
If I may make a suggestion, I would have a look at an asus E35M1-M Pro. It’s basically a mobile CPU (AMD e350) in a desktop motherboard, it would make a good topic for a video. :)

I play everything in 720p anyways, so I'd be perfectly happy with this APU.
No one gonna play on 1080p on this chip,u should try 720p and 900p,this will gonna make more sense, btw love your videos😊😊
It ran faster than consoles, lots of people play consoles (probably the majority of gamers...), might as well run at a standard resolution like 1080p when it gets 60 fps
AMD released these when GPUs were still a pain in the a$$ to get... It's their SECOND TIME saving us, based AMD not only kicking Intel's butt, they also made APUs relevant.
Can you try out apex legends? Its free, and i would like to see how it performs on different components. Thanks!
Apex is an intensive game. Doubt you could get 30fps on low
@@DLtee3323 just do 720p lol ez

@@darenc2949 then it should be 50-70 medium on the the 3400g. Not bad
Just a hair disappointing, I was hoping we'd see one with 15 CUs
Well it is a refresh after all since they only added a clock speed boost and they are on Zen+ architecture.
@@r4c732 7nm dies are a lot smaller while fitting more components. New socket is not really needed.
@@r4c732 both x86 and GPU cores get shrinked with smaller nodes, so you could get 22CUs and 8 x86 cores in an APU with 7nm.
There's not much point adding more compute units as Apus are generally bandwidth bottlenecked.
Why were you hoping for that? Nothing anywhere said there would ever be 15 on this gen? We actually knew for a while they were refreshed of the previous like the 1000 to the 2000 series.
When testing fortnite please turn settings to low expect the view distance since thats what most players use. 1080p low expect view distance would be nice to see.
I wish AMD hadn't named their APU series like they did. Always have been impressed by the AMD APU's. They bring some serious competition every year regarding price to performance. Can't wait to get my hands on one of these little beasts.
It's a shame their APUs are behind their CPUs, though.
Why couldn't they have made the 3400g a Zen 2 chip?
Imagine how crazy it would be if we could get a 7nm APU with Navi graphics similar to what's being put into the next consoles. I don't see why AMD can't make an AM4 version of that for PC.
Netx year's R5 4400G is going to be a beast with Navi.
