owner of an EV6 GT and an Ioniq 5 Ltd AWD here. A couple of points that I think balance out the comparison and the focus on range:
    1. These cars deliver pretty insane performance for the price, and one of the compromises in doing that is that the most expensive component of the car (the battery) is not overspec'd. You always have to have the price in mind here when you are comparing the bonkers performance of either of these to other vehicles, such as a Lucid, Plaid, or '25 Taycan. Very valid that, if you need to optimize for road trips and range, the Highland 3 Performance is the clear winner here (if you are ok buying a car from Elon).
    2. In my area (California) where I take road trips, there's really not a concern between taking the EV6 GT and our Ioniq 5 to optimize for range. You basically stop in the same places, and either car charges faster than my family usually takes getting snacks or relieving themselves. The biggest worry on my roadtrips is how overjammed and craptastic EA is going to be, not whether my car goes 200mi or 250mi before charging. Most folks do not run their cars to 0% SOC on road trips, and the eGMP cars in particular need to be pre-conditioned with over 20% SOC or else you may have a non-optimal battery temp when you reach the charger anyhow. So the whole premise of the range sucking I haven't found that important unless you are comparing with range champs like a model 3 or 2-motor versions of the eGMP cars that are more optimized for range. Personally, so long as you get a temp-optimized battery at a good EA dispenser, these cars are charging beasts for their price and it's really not a big deal.
    3. I agree that the seats in BOTH the EV6 GT and the Ioniq 5 are not for all. They are identical seats save for lighted N and ventilation in the 5N seats. Both are manual, although 5N might be lower in terms of seating position. I am 5'8" and thin, and have no problem feeling comfy in the GT, and in the 5N on a test drive. Two other developments about seats: (a) The refresh 26 EV6 GT will have standard power non-bolstered seats as standard, with the current seats as an option. This solves my main seat complaint, no power on these seats, no memory positions. (b) The real move here is to wait for the GV60 Magma, which is an 5N with a Genesis interior, including high-bolstered POWER seats and lovely stitching on everything and generally higher interior quality.
    4. I leased my GT well before the 5N came out, but pricing for both is absolutely not just a $5k difference these days. EV6 GTs can easily be had for $50k with great leasing rates too. The 5N is way more in demand, and commands a much higher, close to MSRP price, and much worse lease deals. If you absolutely want the best performance eGMP right now, 5N might be the way to go, but just note these are a quantum difference in price from what I've seen (ask me why I haven't traded up for a performance blue already....)
    5. I find the EV6 GT a real hoot to drive on my commute, around town, on the occasional CA roadtrip, and definitely for canyon therapy on the weekends. For the $52k I financed under my lease, I still think it's a good deal and something you might be a little unfair in hating on as much as you do in this video. This all being said, I will probably replace at the end of my 3-year lease with a 5N, GV60 Magma, or a Neue Klasse i3 if BMW doesn't screw that up from the concept.

I just bought the EV6 GT for local daily driving and once a month a 600km round trip commute with 350kW Ionity chargers and Tesla V2/V3 chargers en route. I also once a month do a 160km commute. Daily charging to 80% but only do 20-30 km on daily basis with 320km of range. When I do my big commute I charge 100% and get 380-390km of range now in the winter. That suffices for my 300km leg on way, but often do a 10-12min charge at the awesome Ionity chargers and with the 240kW charging capability of the EV6 GT, that equates to another 150km of added range. I could’ve bought the EV6 AWD LR with 530km of range, but the awesome bucketseats, breathtaking performance and suspension of the GT was enough to convince me to get the shorter range GT. No regrets!
Btw, my previous EV was a 2020 Taycan 4S, and I must say at a third of the price, the EV6 GT is a steal in comparison, and it’s faster, more practical and a rarer sight on our EV packed roads with EVs comprising 94% of all new car sales last month.
I especially like the cross over ride height in conjunction with the all manual bucket seats which are a dream to use instead of waiting for sloooow electric motors winding the seat in every direction. You just slam it all the way back in a tenth of a second, to allow for easy egress every time you exit the car. The Meridian sound system is frigging awesome! Cons: lights could be better, autopilot also. The lack of wireless apple car play is remedied by a USB dongle from Charmingly at 20USD.
I might add, no one gets a GT or N if they prioritize range exclusively. The EV6 GT is an electric racer with a practical side and better looking than the Ioniq5. It also compliments my petrol car, the GT4RS Weissach. Buckets it is!

No it doesn't, for any EV really for that matter. It's just the generic narrative everyone has to complain about when it comes to an EV. Technically, range anxiety doesn't really exist. People have charging anxiety. Will the charging station work and/or have an available stall when they get there? This channel has proven that having 350+ miles of range (like everyone seems to feel like they need) is completely unnecessary. They have done multiple long range road trips across country, on the north, in the south, in the middle, and up and down both coasts. They've never needed more than 80% of any of the vehicles they've used to make it to the next charger.

@@jeffs6090 Not always, for someone who goes deep in GA or country areas sometimes having more range is useful when there aren't charging stations for over 50+ miles. Sometimes I'll need to make multiple stops around the area and notice I have to sometimes call it a day long before I would in a gas car. This is just one occasion where longer range is valued, but when I'm in a city it doesn't matter. I think a good chunk of America is suffering from "dead zones" where it's really far between the next fast charger.

It might not matter as much as people claim, but comparing it to a low mpg ice car is not analogous. Typically those cars have bigger tanks, and it takes 5 minutes max to refuel. So their “range” is still fine, despite fuel prices going up.

For the most part its fine but I had one leg of my trip where I got stuck on a bridge because of an accident for 4 hrs when its 39F outside. I had a 35-40 mile buffer before that but the 4 hr deadlock killed that buffer and once I got out of it I had to look around for a charger and had to go to 4 different places before I could even find a working one. Wasted an hr and the only one working was a 10kw charger, I had to sit it out to get 25 miles to get to my original charging destination with an EA charger, but I had to go 65 mph on the right lane of the highway to make sure we could make it there. Accidents and deadlocks happen so having range anxiety and charging anxiety is a real thing still. If you're new to EVs, I understand the general concern about range. None the least because rage is like the main thing cars are tested for on car channels.
If charging infrastructure is not up to par, I also understand concerns remain. Hopefully that will improve.
But actually owning EVs, being able to charge at home and having a typical use pattern (i.e. not a cross-continental salesman), range just isn't such a big thing. 200miles are way more than I need on a daily basis. And through the years I've learned it's better to take a break every 2 hours anyway on long trips, or the fatigue will cost you more at your destination. And people worry so much about range, they kinda forget about charging speed, where imho 18min vs 35min makes a quite significant difference to the owner experience, the difference between oh it's charged already or damn I need to actively wait for 10-15min.
Then there is an additional aspect of these cars, especially the 5N. I approached it with a performance car mindset. Meaning I drive it for fun with no regard for economy, and simply charge when needed. Simple. The same as with the performance gasoline cars I owned which frankly are more inconvenient. Engine warming, cool downs, heat soak, frequent oil changes, worrying about money shifting and burned clutches and actually even more time spending looking for fuel station with the right brand and octane rating. At the same time 6 months in, I only got annoyed once at a broken charger. But the 5N is amazing to drive and it's the first EV that appeals to me so much it's actually replacing drives with gasoline fun cars.

I popped up to Denver on Saturday for my bday. Got 3.8mi/kWh on the way there and 3.9 on the way back. In my Bolt. Going 60-70mph. In below freezing temps on the way back.
I didn't fast charge, just left it plugged in to a 120v outlet for the 6ish hours I was there. 240 miles, in the mountains, and the cold, in a 7 year old budget EV with CC2s on it.
Going 75mph on flat ground it takes about 25kw. 60 is 15kw, and 85 is 50kw. Power needed is based on the square of the velocity, driving slower has a huge impact on range.
Being more aerodynamic lessens that, but CD is on it's own while V is squared.

Ioniq 5 is less aerodynamic, has a widebody wirh more drag, weighs more, and has 275 instead of 255 width tires versus the EV6 GT. So all that extra battery will be used up and lost in worse efficiency.
So the EPA numbers are kinda accurate after all. Definitely disappointing but its still plenty for daily driving. If you plan to road trip the car at 75mph you will definitely be stopping every 150 miles or so which isnt ideal.

So the 10% has no relevance to the rest result, but 15 minutes does because that's how long you charge. Distance and time charging are the two relevant data points. 10% could just as easily be 12% or 8%.

The same thing that motorcycles try to do with the "reserve tank" valve - which is just a valve that lets you generally draw fuel from a spot an inch above the bottom of your tank, and let you draw from the VERY bottom when the level dips below the "normal" fuel inlet line.
EVs should give you a "reserve range", and generally ignore it. They can report range with 0 being "above that" - just like the KIA was doing. But, when you get down to "Zero" - it should tell you "You are now in your reserve range. THIS is what THAT range is now - actually - and you can go THIS FAR before you stop dead."
It should let people who want to never use their reserve tank know in the back of their minds that it's there if they need it, but then generally act like 0 indicated is all they ever wish to risk to get near. Yet, not fear it if they are getting close to that "0". And, give people who are in a dangerous spot the accurate information they need to deal with that danger situation.

Yeah, 50% for each leg, at 75MPH you are stopping every hour and a half for 20 minutes... I also think this ca. 3,5Kwh buffer is the reason for the BMS to show better numbers in the top 50% and lower on the botton because about 5% is just hidden in the buffer. So i am not a hugh fan. But on the other side you should have some buffer to protect the battery and for safty reasons. I only wish they informed the customer about this buffer. It should not be their exercise to explore it on their own, like i did. You also seem to have buffer on top which is used to eat up some degardation. Nice. After more than 50.000 km or about 35.000 miles i am still able to use about 73Kwh plus buffer (3,5KwH) so 99-100% of 77KwH

The Kia/Hyundai battery buffers were not really designed to be used in everyday driving use, which is why the cars report zero not taking the buffer into account. The intent is to be used to keep the cabin usable (warm/cool etc.) and safe if you're stuck somewhere for a couple of hours waiting for recovery to arrive to charge the car having pulled over in the midst of nowhere with zero battery (in utility mode without draining the 12v battery). Although the cars will allow the an extra few miles of the buffer capacity to be used in case of emergencies to get to a charger, if one's available that close. The buffers capacity also keep's the battery warm in cold conditions to ensure is can charge quickly from zero (with little degredation impact).
The buffer is described in the manual and in my case the dealer covered it during the car handover session.
