I grew up growing lots of food in the garden and getting milk straight from the dairy farmer. I had horrible unrelenting GI problems all of my life. in my mid thirties it became severe and guess what? That healthy farm milk was ruining me... I am severely lactose intolerant and probably allergic as well. It hard to explain to people that even "healthy" farm milk cannot be tolerated by some people. It's hard because so many homestead groups are focused on sourdough bread and dairy cows (one kid is severely gluten intolerant).

I sure hope you find answers to your health problems. Just some advice as I’ve had a lot of health issues the last decade plus myself. I found out that I had low stomach acid, low pancreatic enzymes, and some bad gut bacteria. As I’m implementing changes to address these issues I am finding gradual relief. I have issues from joint muscle pain, allergies, chemical sensitivities, anxiety, migraines, skin rashes hormonal shifts….the list is pretty extensive. I thought if you have any of these issues I might be able to offer more advice.

Hi. Your garden is so prolific and inspiring. Thank you for sharing it! So beautiful. I definitely know what you mean, about the lushness after a rain. We have been getting many days of rain too, and what a difference it makes. I can understand the frustration with not knowing what is happening to make one feel ill, as I have a similar journey. In my case as a pediatrician myself, it was a bit more challenging, thinking through potential possibilities from my medical background, and finding it still so challenging. Honestly, though, sometimes you may not know the specific cause, as it can be varied, and triggered by multiple things. However, take hope in knowing that, I would definitely say that food is healing, and working on providing a variety of vegetables, herbs, and the organic foods you are growing, is one of the best things you can do. Elimination diets are definitely tough. I have been there. Focusing in on that home grown organic variety, is something to definitely rely on, as you move through the elimination diet. I personally focus on primarily vegetables, organic grains, beans, seeds, fruits, minimal oil in cooking, and very little meat, and only home-grown meat, if any. Those things when eaten, are anti-inflammatory, and can help to heal. I share this to let you know you are not alone, that there is so much healing in foods, and they have definitely been placed here as a blessing for us to feel well, and healthy. Thank you again for sharing your garden, and I'm praying for your healing, and well-being.

I always cover my brassicas to keep the worms at bay. Love seeing the mountains in the background in your videos, I always tear up when I come back to visit my family when I see those magnificent peaks! I was wondering how loud is the freeze dryer? I have a small house and am not sure if I could sleep with the noise from it. Your garden looks amazing and the flowers are just stunning! Thank you for taking the time in that nasty humidity to share with us!

For cabbage and brassicas, you've got to cover them with insect netting as soon as they are planted out. We make PVC hoops to drape the netting over. This year with the nets on 24/7, we haven't had to even use BT! All Seasons Cabbage grows well in the heat.

With the elecampane, since it is the root you want, you can either harvest now so you don't have to leave it in the garden any longer or you could cut it back a couple of feet to allow the plant and the roots to continue to live/grow and then harvest the root in the fall which is the ideal time to harvest medicinal roots. But I think it has pretty leaves and would look pretty in the garden if you were to just keep it cut back to a shorter height. It's worth a try anyway. :)
