    Popped into Barum Engines the other day to ask if they could drill a small hole in a part of the central locking mechanism for our twenty three year old Hymer S650 camper van. Lee was on it. Colleced the part today and fitted it so now we have a safe cerntral locking habitation door. Thanks guys. Have to say though, how much more evidence do the police want to identify the offender who tried to break in to your premises and damage your van the other week.

  • @gordowg1wg145
    @gordowg1wg145 Год назад

    Some bearing manufacturers will do special main bearings that have a slightly larger outside diameter to allow the block to be honed to clean up and/or correctly set the crush. Mostly available for 'boxer' engines, but a custom set to your requirements may still work out a lot cheaper than a new/reconditioned used engine block - especially if they're for an engine that's hard to source for a good replacement.

  • @izzmus
    @izzmus Год назад

    I am surprised that the crank and bearings were damaged but the cylinders didn't crack. I didn't see any shims in the block and they didn't seem to be cracked or deformed.
    I put a 2.4 block in my S60R because the cylinders are thicker and the slots are narrower, so the block is stronger. Internet says the rod bearings in the 2.4 are weak. It's the same bottom end as the R/Focus engine, the rod bearings are simply the next weakest link after you shore up the cylinders.

    Can you explain map.

    • @ColinWatters
      @ColinWatters Год назад

      Are you asking what an engine map is ? These days engines are fuel injected. A computer controls how much fuel is injected under different condions (different rpm, throttle position, torque etc). Instead of using equations the computer "looks up" the amount of fuel needed from a table. When plotted in 3D the table looks like a contour map. The values in the table can be changed to trade off power and fuel economy. It's how car companies can sell the same engine with different power ratings. If you increase the amount of fuel supplied in the right parts of the map you can make the engine backfire deliberately (pops and bangs) but this can damage the engine.

      The big difference is old engines of the 70,s would often be serviced by the owner.Nowadays many car bonnets are not ever opened by their owners untill something goes bang.I agree that modern engines are so complex with sensors and running to too higher tolerances.This age of remapping is no difference to my day where you stuck a weber on and retarded the cam timing a bit or put a hot cam on.On Pintos and Vauxhall OHC single cam engines simply failed if they had many miles on them and overheated etc.The extra power killed them.

      The opposite is true. ..cars are so reliable today, Lee's industry of reconditioning is becoming almost extinct. My two cars, MX5 and Camry , have a combined total mileage of about 300,000km's...the heads have never been off either, literally nothing has ever gone wrong with either. When we were growing up , my neighbour had a '68 Corona, ...to play with my mate, I would climb over their fence aided by the three stacked cylinder blocks that Toyota had gone through. Cars are ending up in scrappers today with high mileage...but with lots of life left in the running gear, be certain of that
