26:15 I HAVE CREATED A T SHIRT WITH THIS MACHINE YOU JUST KIND OF HAVE TO MESS WITH THE TENSION WHEN YOU HAVE THICKER MATERIAL YOU WANT TO LOOSEN, WITH THINNER MATERIAL TIGHTEN. TINKER WITH IT. IT WORKS FOR ME. OR YOU CAN ALWAYS PUT SOME BAKING PAPER UNDERNEATH AND SIMPLY RIP IT OFF ONCE FINISHED
OK.. ive got to tell you this. Been watching a little bit, maybe since covid. I had an ikea sewing machine I thought was a dud so gave up. However week after week i'd see your pieces and I knew I had a bucket load of clothing that needed simple alterations.. hemming and waist (I usually buy too big because the sizes are never consistent and then alter as needed). So eventually I took it the damn sewing machine out and realised I was threading the bobbin the wrong way. Post this, I've altered everything I have and I'm looking to start cutting up items that no longer fit/arent my style anymore. This was 10000% because I saw your videos and decided to just sort it out. Youre amazing. Hat of to you! 💛💜🧡
I was stressing on THE LOWER BOBBIN TO TIE THE UPPER AND LOWER TREAD TO GETHER FOR THE STIÇH. YOU CAN PULL THE STICH OUT BY PULLING TREAD FROM DIRECTION IT STARTRD YOU PULL TREAD FROM THE END YOU STOPED SOWING IT HOLDS LIKE IT SHOULD
Very helpful. Watching Angelina struggle with problems while sewing helped me understand a lot more about how to be patient, to predict better which fabrics my sewing machine can handle, and to stay away from handheld machines. Beginner sewers who use hand-held machine to "test" their interest in sewing are likely to be very frustrated. It shouldn't be that hard ... and yes, the problems that were in this video are some of the problems sewers do sometimes experience but only rarely, like if a bobbin isn't threaded clearly. Apparently, there is some kind of plate or plastic that can be adhered to the throat of your machine that makes it easier to sew "slippery" fabrics. I'd like more videos from Angelina about other commonly used tools for upcycling. Learning about seam rippers with blades that can be changed was a game-changing, I actually engage taking seams apart now.
thank u so much for ur videos. Im a BW in my early thirties and I have natural hair and am suffering from hair loss. And I started buying headwraps, however they are very expensive (to me). I have been spending about $30 per headwrap. Therefore, I decided to start making my own and felt that it would be simple. I watched your other review on the handheld machine and decided to get one from Michaels. This was the first time I used a handheld machine and it was a little challenging for me as a complete beginner to sewing. I had a little trouble gathering the thread so I could cut it once I sewed a straight line. It was fun though and I made a really quick bandana with it, that Im going to wear to work tomorrow. But Im definitely going to get a better machine. I just wanted to know if I was going to like sewing in general. But thanks so much for ur videos :)
I got one of these for my mom for Christmas except it's made by Singer. I got it for her so she didn't have to take out her full size sewing machine when doing repairs and she really likes how convienient it is. It's not made for entire projects, just small things like repairs or adjusting seems, and for that it does well. I'd suggest getting a name brand one rather than this particular one.
Good afternoon I'm from st Vincent and the Grenadines, a small island in the Caribbean. I absolutely looooovvvvveeee your upcycle projects, thank you for continuing to motivate me Keep doing what you do MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS YOU
Thank you for this video! I got a little hand sewing machine as a gift, and it was so validating to see an experienced seamstress like yourself have the same issues!
While I am not a fan of hand held sewing machines or any "portable " machine that does not have a bobbin, i do admire your dedication. You make it look good no matter what.
OMG that was painful to watch! hats off for being so patient, I would have quit half way through :) but it's quite a good review of the sewing machine and I'm sure it was helpful for the people who are considering buying one. Personally, I'd buy a really cheap classic sewing machine, save up money if needed, but not bother with this one. Thanks for going through this for your subscribers :)
I am giggling through this whole video. My son just gave me this exact machine for Christmas. It was such a sweet, thoughtful gift, but giving this to a pro sewer is like giving a pro mechanic a butter knife instead of a screwdriver. My son and I were chuckling as we were trying it out on repairing his dog's toys. It failed also, but he said I might find its use. That will be a shelf decoration.
Maybe instead of giggling through the video you should watch and learn how to use the machine. It does okay for little jobs. A poor workman always blames his tools.
Look, I'd never use that for anything. But for a moment, can we all just appreciate how our girl is just plain GLOWING? We need skin care tips, as in yesterday.
I got this as a gift and was very thankful I bumped into this video! It was super helpful. I don't think I want to invest that much in a sewing machine right now since it will take up a lot of space and some of the tutorials I have seen never do hand stitching so I was at a loss haha. I can look at this and be more patient and figure out what I like and dont
I don't know how practical or possible, but I'd pay up for a little portable sewing machine that could lock stitches, handle knits and had a seam guide (hems). Sew a zipper in would be a bonus. I'm space challenged and just don't have room for much more. Basically, something I can throw into a suitcase.
Your quote came from the tv show lost in space it still comes on Thank you for this video of the handheld sewing machine, I was going to purchase one for hems, not sure now.
You have more patience than I do girl and that noise it makes. I would take that $10 or so, buy some needles and thread, put the tea kettle on and cozy up in my favorite chair with a good movie and sew that hem by hand!!!!!
Save a little more coin and do the right thing. However, I was surprised at what the little machine actually could do! The silky fabric probably needs a thinner needle and fine thread just like a regular sewing machine. Thanks for toughing it out! 💜
I had a similar product in 2003. It required a buncha batteries making it kinda heavy. Nice you can plug that in. But I would not recommend buying one. Getting one for free is the only reason i would use it
It was a series... Lost In Space. The statement came from the robot... "Danger Will Robinson" I grew up watching it even though it was in reruns at the time. Thank you for demoing for us. Doing so can take the pain out of discovery on our own. We now know what to expect.
Looks like it's good for hemming most stuff , what we need though is some type of clamp to hook on table edge that can help hold the far end of the material to keep it taunt..to help with straighter sew line ,, doing it free hand is not easy lol...but some type of table clamp would definitely help ...😊
I actually have two of these. My mom bought one for her and one for me when she diedI got hers also. I have only used it once. It does a nice stitch. I only used cotton with it.
I got the same machine, just to hem a thin comforter or something needing a straight stitch. It looks to me like some of the tests MIGHT have succeeded with a third or fourth hand to help hold the finer fabrics. Thank you for the lesson!
Good to see a real life review. This machine struggles to carry the fabric forward and gets stuck, especially with soft fabric material . It is very limited to sew two pieces of plain clothes only. Unfortunately it may not help you on the most of daily situations. Thanks for the video
This looks like it uses the same type of chain stitch mechanism that is in ‘kid sewing machines’ My niece was gifted one a couple years back and I felt kind of sorry for her because 90% of the time she spent on it was coming to me to troubleshoot issues. Time she could’ve spent getting familiar with a regular sewing machine which would’ve been more fun. So worth it to get a cheap full-sized sewing machine instead of any of these.
Can you put a ball point needle in the machine to get thru the tshirt fabric & the pink fabric which may be a tightly woven or stretchy fabric? Also another trick to stretchy fabric is to put a strip of tissue paper under the fabric to get it to feed thru then stitch thru fabric & paper, or maybe on top of the fabric for this chain stitching machine.
Excellent I just been looking to buy one of these. I want to make a keep sake blanket for my little one. I remember your video with the other one. Such a helpful video. Thank you.
Hmm I was thinking of using one of these to sew the straps back on to my trampoline better. I am not sure if it would sew through thick vinyl straps. Thanks so much for the info!
Thank you for this video. I've been making doll clothes for a while by hand, and I wanted to try using a sewing machine (Because it takes me 3 hours to make a pair of cargo pants by hand), but the machine was acting up, so I was looking into a small working machine. At least I know what not to buy
The thread thats hanging out when you first start sewing is supposed to be on the opposite side of the bobber, i noticed when you started sewing the leather side you had it hanging on the side the bobber is on.
Thank you for your review. You're very funny and patient. I was considering this strictly for hemming pants. Or should I use the hemming tape? Still on the fence.
11:20 Same problem I'm having....keeping everything straight. I'm trying to do an edge hem for curtain-like material as well but 72 inches worth on each side...not kewl when the thing is bopping around the line of action...
The reason why certain fabrics dont work is as the needle goes down through the material it has to hold the thead down on the downward needle thrust so in soft fabric it wont stay down for a catcher piece thats in the bottom arm also wont have thread to complete the stitch because the first piece of thread must be left down for the next thrust as it goes through the fabric to the loop left behind and so on , easy pleasey.
That's a quick fix traveling sewing machine it's for people on the go they ain't got time to fix it. It's a quick easy way but it's temporary on lighter and softer fabric it hass to be held thought on the feeding end.
Do you think you could reverse like three or four stitches like a regular sewing machine and then go forward to keep it sealed rather than having to do the stitch at the end I asked because my hands may not be able to do the knot

Wow. I feel inspired. You are so inviting to the sewing field and I appreciate this video.
Thanks so much! 🙏🏾
I would guess that it can't do lighter fabrics because the fabric doesn't offer enough resistance to the thread to catch it and keep the stitch
I agree! At first I thought I had done something wrong.
Wrong, I’m altering a dry fit soccer jersey for my and yes it’s annoying until u get a hang of it
The reason why certain fabrics dont work is as the needle goes down through the material it has to hold the thead down on the downward needle thrust so in soft fabric it wont stay down for a catcher piece thats in the bottom arm also wont have thread to complete the stitch because the first piece of thread must be left down for the next thrust as it goes through the fabric to the loop left behind and so on , easy pleasey.

Unfortunately not

Hi i would like to know how to wind the bobbin for this hand held machine if you don't have a proper sewing machine machine.I have this handheld one... but don't know how to wind the bobbin
Honestly, perfecting your hand sewing skills is preferable to using this
Thanks, I almost buy this, but now I know its limitations that it cant be used in thin fabrics.
i like the manual stapler type
I have one of these machines and mine isn't keeping , let me try to explain.... it appears as though its stitch but when u look at the back you see that the chain stitch was not complete and the fabric is not staying together.... can u help me plz

I’m an experienced seamstress and designer, and used to work at fabric stores. Whenever a customer would come to me and ask about these machines (usually because they were too cheap to invest in an actual sewing machine) I would always discourage them especially if they were buying it for a younger person wanting to learn how sew.
Beyond putting a hideous stitch on the hem of your pants even with matching thread, or to make cheap cotton throw pillows, this gadget in my opinion is ABSOLUTELY useless!
I’m a firm believer that one of the best life skills you can acquire is learning how to sew both by hand and with a REAL sewing machine, meaning learning various basic stitching techniques, using elastics, making button holes, installing zippers.
Needless to say, every time a customer would bring that dreadful thing to me to buy, she would actually end up leaving the store with a brand new starter machines, basic notions, fabrics and thread to get started on first projects which I recommended for beginners.
I would even tell them to come back so I could see how their projects turned out.
It was like talking them off of the ledge and bringing them back into the light, lol!
I would rather sew by hand than get this
What starter sewing machine do you recommend for a beginner ?

We meet at 6pm CST which unfortunately would be midnight your time. If I get enough interest, I will start a second class.

Great video. I bought mine last night to hem jeans and trousers. I have one pair of summer weight trousers that are a jersey fabric so won't use the little sewing machine for them. I'll use Wundaweb. For making clothes, I'd just use my big sewing machine. I'll be giving mine a test run tonight with the lightweight denim jeans I bought. They need about 3 inches taken off the hem so it should work OK with them. Subscribed.
Is it not faster to just hand stich?
Have you ever had a issue with threading to start off. Its just poking a hole and not sewing at all.
Ham?
Throw it away . Hand sewing takes a long time but it's less stressful. Not for me
Lost In Space!!! Started as a show, turned into a movie with severalnotable actors, and made into a show again.
Thanks 💕
I say for the jeans its a pass. I mean I did go over the jeans and hem it a little so- its a pass from me.
