I had a laminate floor in my bakery that we installed. So after 9 years, I retired. We have kept it. We just built a canning pantry closet in my mudroom pantry. And put in plywood shelves. And I didn't want them painted, as things always stick to paint on shelves. But I didn't want raw plywood either. So we used the laminate floor on top of the shelves. There easy to clean and my filled canning jars will slide over that easily. And then hubby put wood straps stained to match. Looks really good. Another repurpose idea.
I wish my husband and i started this life when we were your ages. I am so happy for you both! You are doing a great job. Prob why you smile all the time. (That is a good thing)
I am also a 'Not sure how I'm gonna do it, but I have an idea of what I wanna do' type of person. My husband just about loses his mind when I try to tell him what I am about to do in the yard or house, because he can't see what I see in my mind. However, he does admit that I get it done as long as he stays out of the way once I get started! Great video!
For what it’s worth, I’m a farmer and seeing you doing this makes me extremely happy for you and your ambition to become more in control of your food independence.. the joy you will have when you start harvesting your bounty will hit that spot in your soul that nothing compares to... your a beautiful young couple and I truly wish y’all the absolute best! Btw I learned a few tidbits from your build with your creativity might just apply them myself for my young lads!
Its great Zack, I agree with adding a bit more support, love what you do,, I love that you’re not all hoity toity (pretentious) you make it simple and encourage others. Thanks for the video.
My shelves have the wire like you used... not a fan for greenhouse shelves. My husband built mine last winter as a surprise.... I love it except those wire shelves that get all warped up. I hope y’all plant lots of fun things in there 🙏🏻🥰🌻🌹🌷🌸🌼🥦🥬🥒🌶🫑🍆🍓🌽🥕🧄🧅🥔🍠 YUM 😋
Zac & Jen the Greenhouse is coming right along. I really wish your back window had a screen to open it up. Kentucky gets so hot🥵.. Zac your tractor skills will get better & better with time. My Husband suggests get the bush hog off you will learn quicken how to manage the bucket. (FYI he was raised on a 1,200 acer farm we farmed until 2000). Son you are doing such a good job with Jen's help your place is looking better daily. GOD'S BLESSINGS from West Central Indiana Farmland ✝️ 🇺🇸🚜💖
I agree, having worked in a Greenhouse before they R going to need all the workspace they can get & all the under the table storage, it shouldn't take to much to move those racks down a few feet, & if they decide not 2 I'm sure they will regret it later down the road........
YOU GO ZACH...YOU ARE THE WORKING MAN....LOVE YA FROM NC...OH, I FORGOT TO TELL YOU...REMEMBER THE DOG EAR PINE WOOK THAT WAS LOWER PRICE THAT YOU TOLD US ABOUT...WELL, I GOT 40 AND WE DID ONE OF OUR BATHROOM FLOOR IN THEM...GOT a STAIN AND SEAL BUT IT LOOS GREAT. TKS SO MUCH FOR WHAT YOU SHARE WITH US.
Very interesting video. I think you are very wise to be building a green house. I do believe that you will always have food for your family. When they were spraying heavily, chem trails, it really bothered me to think what was on our tomatoes, squash, etc.
A great idea I seen on another channel was to use a landscape rake to pull the mesh tight to get it flat. You Fasten one side of the mesh, then someone puts pressure on rake for a flat shelf.
That looks awesome. Can't wait to see what you are planting. I think both of you do wonderful. You with a fulltime job and Jen with homeschooling and homemaking duties, you both do a great deal. Don't feel like you have to rush to get anything done for us. We love watching your projects come to fruition. Keep up the great work. Stay safe, stay well, God bless.
Compost can be expensive so I would have at least filled up each bed with branches and logs and brush and leaves to at least have filled them halfway before dumping in the soil or compost or whatever you filled them with. Just my thoughts. looks like you don't have a shortage of woods around there to have done that pretty easily especially if the kids were involved with collecting the branches and such. Love your videos.
I think so too, but even more important to me is the potential for chemicals from the plastic being taken up in soil and plants. Cardboard accomplishes the same thing and is biodegradable. Oh well...not my decision.
I worked in a greenhouse... One suggestion, put a strip of wood along the edges where the hardware cloth is and screw it down (You'll have to replace the hardware cloth down the road) to add reinforcement. Looks good.
It's working out great. I do foldable movable frames with top panels (used as onion, garlic & sweet potato drying racks, when not needed in the greenhouse).
Did you hear me cheering for you from the Chicago suburbs? So exciting to see you get that soil dumped perfectly in your raised beds. I was going...”Yay, Zach! Good for you!!!” 💛💛💛💛
This is explained really well and has given me an idea for my own cattle panel green house, thanks for sharing, I'm looking forward to watching you,💐🤗😊
I'm rebuilding my greenhouse (mostly made from garbage, hooray for recycling!) and I've been looking for a good shelving material. i love this hardware cloth idea! will definitely try! Thanks
those wire shelves are great you will also be able to dry off your potatoes & onions. Maybe also lay tomatoes on them to finish ripening too in the harvest season
Some 2x2s would be enough for a little extra support under the wire shelving. Looking good so far. I have some of that laminate flooring leftover in my attic too. Gotta keep that in mind if I ever get around to building one of these myself.
We want to get a small tractor to help out with what we have. But money is always the issue. In time we will have our small farm just as we see it. Yours is coming right along. Jen is going to love all that will be done in the green house. Thank you for sharing. God Bless
That Greenhouse is looking good! Using that leftover flooring was a great idea and looks like the shelves are high enough so you can store extra pots or bags of soil, etc. underneath them. Great job Zach.
Looks good! I have a 3 cattle panel arch i was going to add another panel and cover in 4 ml greenhouse plastic that i have setting here waiting on me to just do it. I procrastinated and everything is covered in snow, though. Wish i had lumber and a helper to put around the bottom like yours. Really encouraging to see yours done. Thanks. One if the other channels pulled up their weed fabric because someone said it would cause condensation to build up. I see lots of high tunnels with it and seems ok, though.
I make my main greenhouse shelves 2' deep and use rabbit wire (1"x2") to cover. Strong enough for even 1 gallon pots. I do cuttings and grow plants for plant swaps in my area, so I carry over hibiscus and tender plants, too. I was going to make my new hoophouse out of PVC pipe frame, but realized that I really don't need 16' wide just for me. Going to do 10x16' with cattle panels! My main greenhouse is hard frame, with elec/water, for starting seeds/cuttings, so hoophouse will be just for growing in raised beds/huge pots. Instead of solid bottom walls, making a 2' side wall frame to put rabbit wire on and roll up the plastic sides on that. Dutch door, so I can let air in, but keep the wild rabbits and free range chickens out. But need to get the old ornamental pear cut down first. It's in the way.
Love your new green house. Let me give you a little advice with your ground planting and new tractor. Go with hoss growing advice. Good luck you two. God Bless
In my planters i filled bottom right up with older wood around 10 inch diameter. It acts like a sponge after a few years. Very good to do and helps with the soil. Soil starting to get hard in some places to get and trucking will kill you
That is nice man, really nice. Just an idea.. automotive hood shocks - 1 on each side at the bottom and a latch on the outside of the window could make for easy venting... Looks great, and bet it grows things even better...
i made my soil with sand, compost and peat moss mixture and added aged horse manure each year. had it delivered and i filled the beds. it is a loose mixture that never gets compacted too firm.
As I was watching I thought you needed more braces on the shelving. The hardware cloth isn’t just for light, but for soil, water, and debris to fall through. Saves on clean up, and rot of wood shelf tops.
That will work well. Doesn't matter how you do something- there will always be those who know better than everyone else. Good simple structure!! - Rick
So glad to see those beds filled! I do the same with the logs aha. So great for long term soil management too and cost effective :) I felt so relieved when I got my newest beds filled and my other beds topped! I live in central Kentucky but wound up buying soil from the store and too dressing with my own compost materials so I can’t help ya out there! Excited to see the new space providing! Bless you all!
My little greenhouse is the small one with only two cattle panels. I so very much appreciate you for showing the double TEIR shelves. These are exactly what I need in mine along the long walls. I already have a few rolls of hardware cloth the same width. Thank you again. If I leave room as you did, I might get a couple of small raised beds or flat shelves for the starter trays.
I had a laminate floor in my bakery that we installed. So after 9 years, I retired. We have kept it. We just built a canning pantry closet in my mudroom pantry. And put in plywood shelves. nice, leave those extensions on top. you could put an irrigation system with pvc pipe on it.
I am also a 'Not sure how I'm gonna do it, but I have an idea of what I wanna do' type of person. My husband just about loses his mind when I try to tell him what I am about to do in the yard or house, because he can't see what I see in my mind. Hoogleculture - a good way to use up old wood that really can't be burned in the wood stove. Good idea!
Hugelkultur
But this is not that.
Your wife has the best smile! Her smile is infectious and I found myself smiling just because she was. Thank you for this great video :-)
Truly love that you work with what you have. Most of us don’t have a lot of money hanging around. Good job.
I just like that you're a little bit warmer while working on the homestead while working a full time job. You're one great provider , Zack 🥰❣️👍
We really enjoyed this video well I should say all your videos, thank you all.
Zac & Jen the Greenhouse is coming right along. I really wish your back window had a screen to open it up. Kentucky gets so hot🥵.. Zac your tractor skills will get better & better with time. Love your enthusiasm and wonderful smile.
Good morning yall
Great job Zac but snip those cable ties before you leave your eye on one.
😳
I would move the shelving down more to give two people room to work at the table and you can reach under the table in that corner.
I agree, having worked in a Greenhouse before they R going to need all the workspace they can get & all the under the table storage, it shouldn't take to much to move those racks down a few feet, & if they decide not 2 I'm sure they will regret it later down the road........
That looks great Zac. Let the growing begin. Have fun.
I find it is just crazy what people throw out.. good work buddy 👍🏼
Looks so relaxing actually...peaceful work outdoors has always filled my heart and mind with pleasure.
Your new Tractor looks good on you Zach 🙌🐦.
That is an Awesome Green house, don't know why more Folks don't use your idea!
JO JO IN VT 💕😄☃
You are doing awesome and amazing things out there Zach and Jen.
I do enjoy your videos and philosophy. Great job on the greenhouse. Blessings.
Repurposing is fantastic, nice job.
Nice yall will enjoy that
You can also use that flooring to make the sides of your raised gardens. It won't last forever, but hey, it was free, and recycling it is a great idea
I like the hardwood table top idea. I guess table tops should be easy to find, especially taking pallet wood into consideration.
Very interesting video. I think you are very wise to be building a green house. I do believe that you will always have food for your family. When they were spraying heavily, chem trails, it really bothered me to think what was on our tomatoes, squash, etc.
Looks great !! Get some of your used flooring and slide under your table legs to keep them from sinking when you get a lot of weight on your table.👍
A great idea I seen on another channel was to use a landscape rake to pull the mesh tight to get it flat. You Fasten one side of the mesh, then someone puts pressure on rake for a flat shelf.
Looks good Stivers! Can’t wait for y’all to have some plant babies growing in there!
And good word! Where there is a will there is a way 👍🏻
Great job! You’ll spend your time on what’s priority.. you nailed it! Great addition!
Zach you're a good man.
Oh man! Y'all are gettin y'all's shiney machine dirty! What a blessing
That looks awesome. Can't wait to see what you are planting. I think both of you do wonderful. You with a fulltime job and Jen with homeschooling and homemaking duties, you both do a great deal. My daughter lives in Somerset Kentucky she owns Heffelfinger Tree Farm. If your ever looking for Christmas trees Heffelfingers got it.

Yea I put in a lot more materials because I can’t afford much soil! I do think more would have been better but it suffices for them so I’m down!
Great job you are moving very fast and getting a lot accomplished .
Thanks for sharing! And, like your "Minnie Pearl" boots.....
I'm from Bell County, live in laurel county, and drive through knox county all the time. Good work.
I worked in a greenhouse... One suggestion, put a strip of wood along the edges where the hardware cloth is and screw it down (You'll have to replace the hardware cloth down the road) to add reinforcement. Looks good.
That's a very good asset to the family. I like the way it came out.
It's working out great. I do foldable movable frames with top panels (used as onion, garlic & sweet potato drying racks, when not needed in the greenhouse).
Good idea!
Hey, I live in Jackson and there's a place called Sticks and Stones in Berea, Madison Co., that delivers.
Did you hear me cheering for you from the Chicago suburbs? So exciting to see you get that soil dumped perfectly in your raised beds. I was going...”Yay, Zach! Good for you!!!” 💛💛💛💛
😊😊
Yes!! We have hardwood flooring remnants!! Great idea.
Love that you did that with the old flooring. My husband did that with a ton of flooring he took out from a job as well 😁 works GREAT!!
This is explained really well and has given me an idea for my own cattle panel green house, thanks for sharing, I'm looking forward to watching you,💐🤗😊

Such a lovely family. You work very hard and Jen is right beside you, children are precious, again a loving family. Have a peaceful day 😊
Gorgeous garden boxes!
Great greenhouse 💕
That Greenhouse is looking good! Using that leftover flooring was a great idea and looks like the shelves are high enough so you can store extra pots or bags of soil, etc. underneath them. Great job Zach.
Love this! Shared with hubby because we are making 1 or 2 for our urban homestead.
Awesome greenhouse! 👍❤️🙏

I subscribed because of that smile lol. Always so happy. But I may make a small green house like this because wood is out of the question right now.
Love your greenhouse!

Getting it Done ! Nice job
LOVE, love the greenhouse! Can’t wait to get mine put up like this!
Good job.🌽🥦🌶🧅🍓🍅🫑🥒🌻🌼🌻🌺👍

Your family are getting so much done, after your videos I have to take a nap. LOVE U GUYS.
Awesome work. Your a good motivator to.
I appreciate your encouragement and positivity. Thank you! Also big props for sharing the process.
That will work well. Doesn't matter how you do something- there will always be those who know better than everyone else. Good simple structure!! - Rick
Great work on the green house build. You are a hard worker , Zack.👍
Looks good... I wish my husband was as interested in homesteading as I am...😢
hugelkultiur IN the raised beds...Nice!
Great job looks great
Looks really nice. 👍
Nice green house
Awesome Job Zack ! I like it !
A little hard work goes a long way 💪 great video, love seeing folks being self sufficient, especially nowadays
You and Jen are amazing. I love your sweet smiles and happiness.
Oh wow...I can't wait to see this full of seedlings...so damn excited for you guys..❤❤🙏🙏

Great job! You made it look very do-able for the average person/homesteader. It’s one of our next plans. Can’t wait to see the greens growing! 🙌🏻 🥬 🌱
Wow, come build me some...lol. Love ❤️ you guys!
Zack you cant use a tractor to fill your raised beds!!! That is cheating! LOL Everything is lookin good. Yall have a blessed week!
You did a great job!!!
Thank you.
