    The V8 in the XC90 is the best sounding V8 I've ever heard. I've had mine for 4 or 5 months. My daily driver for the last 20 years has been a 454 cubic inch Chevy 1 ton crew cab long bed 4x4 (yes, American)but these V8s have the best sound! Very balanced. Mine is an 09 with 200k miles. It scares the crap out of me because this is not a car I will be able to work on myself and in the US any Volvo repair or maintenance is extremely expensive. It's not as bad as it was in the 90s or the 2000s but it's still a big deal and I'm guessing that's why used XC90s are so cheep in the US. Americans are probably scared of them. I'm not rich, so I am scared too. Anything Chevy I could fix myself with no problem but I've already seen simple things on my XC90 get real complicated real quick. For instance, a simple thing that's been driving me absolutely nuts is the gas struts on the rear hatch have broken out of the hatch on the upper end. Come to find out the upper hatch is fiberglass...and the lower is metal. For the life of me I can not figure out a way to remount any style of upper ball fittings to the fiberglass pillars of the rear hatch. I can't even figure out how the threaded inserts have held that heavy hatch up all these years in the first place. It looks like the inserts were held in the hollow fiberglass hatch pillars with some type of adhesive that has the consistency and texture of Bondo! What the heck is going on? I've bought 7 or 8 different ball fitting configurations but there isn't a straight or flat surface to mount them and the original holes are blown out. It's a simple thing but I can't seem to think my way around this frustratingly simple problem...and that rear hatch has to be the heaviest of any I've ever seen. There's been other simple issues like this that got out of hand. It's almost like someone thought ahead to block any "fix" a person might come up with. ...AND where is the trans. dipstick? Where is the freakin battery? That one actually panicked me a bit. Thought I was losing my mind. I don't even understand all the buttons yet! That said, it sure is nice to drive and I love it!

      Appriciate your comment. :) And probably the same can be said about the american cars here in Europe. Since we dont have them a lot. I see the xc90 as solid and easy car to work on. Generally I find them to be easier to work on comparing other European brands. But yes it has some odd things as well. Like the plastic hatch. It is like that on most volvos so they do not rust. And yes that v8 sound. Since it is 60 degrees between lines it sounds different. And I love that sound. 😃

    Its great to see a XC90 V8. Nicely done video.
    I recently bought one from 2009. It has a few issues and would love to see what all work you would do on it to get it road worthy. Mine has quite a few issues and has already done 340K, but I plan to keep it for long and use it as my daily driver. Also which is the best place to procure the parts from and is it ok to run it as a 2WD in case there is major issue with rear differential and would it make a difference in the mileage. I am in Dubai currently, just to give a understanding of where I am and how convenient is it to get this vehicle fixed in this region.
    Thank you once again.

    +1 what to look for what can be refurbished what to avoid.
    This type of report by owners who maintain their own vehicles carries more weight than you tube videos cleaning a car found in a shed - just don't get how washing an old car is anything but wasted effort.
    Unsure if the UK ever had the V8 as an option but looking forward to your next video.

  • @jellybean1976928
    @jellybean1976928 9 месяцев назад +1

    Is this on its original transmission? Here in Australia I have become aware of many of these that fail just short of 200K KLM, and at the same time require engine out for oil leak repairs. Basically budget for a $10K AUD service every 209K KLM.

    • @realvolvofreak
      @realvolvofreak  9 месяцев назад

      Yes it has original transmission. It all could be due to the different loads, usage and temperatures. Obviously in Australia you have a bit more heat. :) You can fix oil leaks while engine is in car, but some prefere to take engine out to gain better access.
