be careful if you try cleaning the engine bay, these have a balance shaft in the upper vally - and the bearing is semi exposed to the environment. The bearing can get water and trash in it and sound just like rod knock/ send bearing material through the whole engine! in 2007-8 they fixed it but your year is more prone to this!
Thanks a lot for these videos! I have VIDA at my disposal but these videos are helping out immensely in performing head gasket replacement on my S80. It is quite a job but these cars are worth it!
Wow, nice video. Looks like dropping the engine, transmission, engine Mount and subframe all together is much easier than separately. have a 2009 XC90 V8, 188000 miles, running excellently except mysterious oil leaking. I suspect the power steering fluid leaking but never verified.
Happy you like it, I thought it was pretty easy this time, did the drop 3 times before on my first XC90 V8. Might be the power steering, my pump was leaking and the oil came out between engine and gearbox I will show why in an upcoming video. The power steering hoses was also leaking, changed them together with renovating the PS pump.
Kia ora Phil Check your PS inlet and outlet seals on the PS pump itself mate...mine was leaking REALLY badly and we even thought it was the rack!...as the damn fluid follows the PS lines all the way behind the engine and down, which just makes a mess of EVERYTHING!!, so its damn hard to tell where the leak actually is! Turned out my "expensive PS rebuild"...was just a blown o-ring on the input line! 😶(The tube from the PS fluid tank to the pump, it connects to a 90deg "plug" that is held on by a 12m bolt...and has a $2 o-ring to seal it)...Yeah, THAT BASTARD!!! - check it! 😂 (And do the outlet as well...both are easy to get to) Kia Kaha 😊
Thaks for your answer 😊. I have another one question. When u get motor inside the car and before u connected battery, U told, that the key must be in position two. What is the process. I put key to position two, and then I turn off the key, or I connecting battery and the key is still in position two? Why I have to do this? Thanks 😉
@@martinjankal699 Volvo themselves say that this is the process, put key on II, then connect battery and then without a hurry(you will hear it donging stuff like testing or initializing cd-changer) turn off the key, done!
Hallo, I have a question. What with AC compressor. Did you open and take out all medium, or you did it with no touch to the ac medium circle. Thank you
@@martinjankal699 Hi, I left the AC compressor hanging on the car, by the time I did this I did not have a “licence” to do the gaswork. It’s a bit tricky to get it in place when trying to put the engine back in to the car but it works.
Thanks, I did not time it, but I guess you could do it in under 4h with a little practice. I’ve taken out the V8 4 times now, not on this car though. I guess around 8 would be realistic, maybe a little more the first time depending on if the car wants to F with you. My videos will help, for a first timer, that’s why I wanted to make them because there was nothing when I did it the first time.
@Stafilafi nice, i need to replace my engine, so i was searching for some videos. Good to know. Thanks for your answer. Are there any suggestions on what it can make easier?
@ yes, I would get the tool for the pressure fuel line under the car, to be able to disconnect it fast, that took a while without the correct tool. And disconnect the oil hoses to the transmission from the cooler, not the gearbox, otherwise its pretty straight forward job, you should have no problems doing it.
I have this Yamaha in my 2010 s80. Any thoughts on why the underside of the engine components would have a lot of oil on them but my oil level is always normal? All fluid levels normal. Only one I cant check is transmission. Car has 112k miles on it. Do you recommend a transmission fluid service or leave it alone? Thanks! So nice to see v8 content! Rare!
@@vbnautical5041I think that this oil leak would be from the engine front cover or even from the valve gaskets, this is very common on “Volvo” engines, the gaskets dry out and don’t seal as good as if they are new, I changed them as I took the engine apart, if you don’t have a leak big enough to measure, nevermind it. The oil level in the gearbox can be checked but you need to have a certain temp in gearbox, run trough all gears for 2sec twice and undo the inner screw on gearbox drain plug, the info can be found in Vida and probably on the internet.
Actually, almost all service entries in service manual with this engine starts with "remove the engine from the car" :-D there is no access for anything ...
You're driveshaft separated alot easier than mine is. Motor is off the mounts and moves freely but even pulling on it, I can't for the life of me get the driveshaft to separate.
Next time you run into this issue torch the crap out of it gets them out immediately for me every time. If that don't work a stick of dynamite always does the trick
I just got my 2006 V8 yesterday and I’m in love with it been a Volvo mechanic and you are right. This is the best motor to have.

That’s great, exactly what they are intended to do. Definitely worth it!
Awesome car with the v8. Lovely to drive.
This is great and comprehensible. Thanks for showing us how. Great job brother. Congratulations
No problemo, thank you!
well done. I am in for similar thing. Have not got a courage to get ot it yet. :D
Thanks 👍 good stuff

mysterious oil leak is usually timing chain seal or the seal behind harmonic balancer
@@willytheekid Great tip. I will check it out when weather warms up soon

Have you ever regulated the valves in v8?
Not sure exactly what you mean, but never did anything to the valves.

Hey man can you tall me what kind of hoist is the one you used
Thanks
Its an engine hoist, from “Biltema” in Sweden. Nothing that special, there are definitely similar ones out there.
Thanks to you I got the engine out... now 🤔 how do i put it back in?
Well I guess I have to put the rest of the videos out there… Well done btw! 😎

You will see, have patience.
he said it was a 05’ so I think the balance shaft sized up
