Was I alone in thinking that the introduction of the queen is a massive power spike? Even if so, I think I've cracked the code to get over that hump, more coming soon.
Yeah, and I think it's intentional. The first few cards are preparing you for the Queen. Main reason I believe this is simply because its hardcoded to happen at a specific moment and the card appears nowhere else afaik, so it's kind of more like "the game begins" than a power spike imo
5-7 range covers the entire board vertically, and the 11° angle made a really neat sniper build using 2 turns instead of 3 turns every cycle. (1 to shoot, 1 to reload vs 1 to change to sniper, 1 to shoot, 1 to reload) Your only weakness was corners really.
5-7 can be full board But personally I don't consider it full board until 6-8 because there's a decent chance 2 of your bullets only had range 5 and you miss the kill

I just want to share that rightful curtsy is pretty good despite what Tyler says. The knockback chance adds up rather than multiplying, so double curtsy is insanely strong. With moat you can keep pushing pieces behind the moat, holding your position. I'm pretty sure the only piece that can kill you when knocked is the knight, when shooting diagonally if it's right beside you. Queens, rooks and bishops can only kill you if you were in check already. I've already beaten the hardest difficulty and I've done some speedruns with moderate success. 1:42.01 (edit: updated time, that's a really strong run I just got, wanted to share it) on normal mode and 2:57.10 (edit: updated time, just had a good run) on hard mode. It's hard to consider the other two "speedruns", but my time on very hard is 7:53.81 and 11:27.13 on king mode. The top runner is insane though, she's actually cracked. Best of luck to Tyler! Make sure to give some of the "worse" upgrades a chance. I highly recommend loafers (strafe mode), specially in combination with other movement upgrades. I also found my favourite build recently, where you get sacred crown and censer with blunderbuss and you just soul into melee range of any piece, blow them up and repeat. Speedrunning this game has a great feel to it, specially with the extra comodity of the in-game clock.
The pawns helped you so much. Higher pieces are basically useless with 534153 pawns blocking their movements. August presence was just the cherry on top.
August Presence, usually a mildly decent skill that has not much going for it except maybe High Focus, became insanely overpowered when the white board became heavily Pawn-based. A perfect reiteration of Avengers' "We have an army. I have T-pose to assert dominance and You! Shall Not! *Pass*!"

The only funnier thing with pawn army is spamming the grenades with the upgrade that gives ammo on killing pawns. It does exactly 3 damage and the pawns have 3 HP. Each grenade would get something like 6 pawns
Rooks, bishops, and queens would probably out range and kill you. The difficulty factor is there, but it doesn't seem like it would be very entertaining to play/watch.

The fire range listed on the left side will be something like "3-5", which means that bullets will travel between 3 and 5 spaces before disappearing. This simulates damage falloff at range. a range of "6-8" will reach the end of the board 100% as long as you are shooting completely vertical.
