Yeah I've worked for my dads sheetmetal company for 27 years and I recently came into ownership of a 12' john boat. And I will be fabbing up my own pods with the help of ideas of youtube. I like the side mount type pods you had made for yours. So I might be taking a page from your pods and make a set for myself. I have two small children as well so I'm not too worried about loseing top end speed so my hats off to you and everyone involved in your pod adventure! I'll be getting mine started soon ,mostly cuz' school summer break is a couple weeks out and my kids wanna go in the boat so.... wish me luck!
I think making the pods longer so that the angle cuts the water better would make a big difference. These seem like they cause a lot of drag. I do like the side boat pod idea. I just think it needs to be much longer for fluid dynamic purposes.
I have a 12 ft V Hull and I have to say I think this would add a great deal of stability to my boat when included with the flat false deck that I'm putting on it
Man them pods look like the game changer for my 1232. When I’m standing up fishing it definitely feels like I’m one hookset away from getting an impromptu baptism… lol
I have a 14 footer but it’s really narrow like your boat. If they were affordable I would definitely be interested in a set of float pods for my Jon. Looks great! Keep it up
the approach angle on the front of your float pods is scooping water up and out and that's where your drag is coming from. in your video when you're looking back at yourself you can actually see where the pods are pushing the water out to the side. You should have actually increased speed a few tenths of a mile per hour with the extra planing surface under the boat. I would suggest that you lengthen them about another foot or two and change the approach angle of the front of the pods to where it slopes upward and forward only instead of backward and outward. the approach at the front of the pods should match the curve in the front of the Jon boat a sharp angle at the bottom will induce drag also. I would also suggest that your next set of PODS have a flange most all the way around and attach it to the hull using stainless 10-24 truss head screws with a washer and a nylon lock nut on the inside. In addition, the pods should be made out of .072"-.080" aluminum anything thicker is an Overkill most of the hulls on these small jon boats are only .050". I'm an aerospace welder fabricator and I've been doing these tiny boat modifications professionally for over 40 years. Great work though!😎
Thank you for your input, unfortunately a little late to the party. Not sure i agree w all your points but appreciate the suggestions nonetheless. One thing a can agree upon is the approach angle of pod. Again, these were designed over the internet and fabricated in another state before shipped to me. If I built these myself in my garage there is no doubt the angle would have been different. Hard to build without a boat. I'll take the result as a success give this was something completely outside the box and nothing I've ever seen done, still having completed the objective. We changed the angle on the second set but have not tested. Boat in video had the pods fully molded in so possibly it can perform better with no front seam. Still more tests to do. Not really agree it should pick up speed given the pods weighed almost 30 pounds and stick outside the side of hull, making more drag regardless of angle. Anyhow this type of thing could really be fine tuned if we were a boat race team, or trying to bring to mass market. We are not in a speed competition and the market is not there , therefore I am happy with the results given im just a guy in my garage. Always room for improvement though.
I love the idea of these float pods! I have a 12ft 1971 Appleby Jon boat that is identical to yours. The stability is also sketchy so I would definitely get these if they are at an affordable price!! Thanks for this video I’ve been waiting to see how they performed and super excited for the future of this build!
I use rear mounted pods and got a speed increase. Side mounts have some drawbacks. Rear mounts when done properly don't seem to have any downside other than weight and space.
I think they needed to be a little more "hydro dynamic" ie Make them slightly longer with them slanted up @ the front. This would most likely give you back the majority of the speed you lost. You lost speed because you have a squared off front, so you are getting more drag than nessacerry. Once you get them completely sealed smoothly against the boat that will help a tiny bit as well.
I completely agree. We played w some designs, some looked goofy. Definitely room for improvement although I didn't lose as much speed as I thought. Maybe we can revisit this idea and fine tune in the future as minimal speed loss would be attainable. Just not on this boat, lol. Moving forward! Thanks for feedback, much appreciated
I agree with you, 1.5 mph is a fair trade off for the added stability. While I don't have a 12' Jon, I would love to get some reasonably priced float pods for my 16X50. I plan on cutting in a tunnel hull and adding a hydraulic jack plate.
It's amazing. I never knew about the pods but I had the same idea. In my mind. The only difference Is that I knew. Will lost A lot of speed. So I was thinking to do something like the wheels. Something that. Allows me to use them or not depending of my needs
You could always make float pods good attacks just like your wheels and fold down the back that way you could raise them up for when you drove the boat at high speed and put them down when you got to where you were fishing adjustable float pods
Adapt your launch wheels so they can be angled to the side as float pods. Then you don't have to give up top speed. Just put them out what you want the extra stability.
I think I’d like to have the side pods yet have them to come across the rear to mimic the typical pods. Appearance wise, I feel would look more clean and it would improve rear flotation even more.
Great concept, I got a 1240 lowe with pods. My only criticism is I say your front angle of the pods is backward and creating drag, not lift while under way.
I agree as well. Was hoping the angle would be more level vertically when installed. Again, hard to do w design, fabricaror, and I in 3 different states. Tremendously happy though given the circumstances. But yes, as a first prototype set, success was achieved but room for improvement. Thanks for feedback 👊

Hi there. My name is Roger.. My neighbor had passed away. The kids had gay me A1232 Jon boat.. It's a older 84 boat.. I'm on the RUclips and ran across your channel.. Now I'm following you from different mods that you doing.. I would like the information of the stable parts.. To get them. How to go about It? Where can I purchase them?
I have a 2018 12ft alumacraft. If i ever hit the lottery Im definitely shipping my boat to you so you can modify it into a bass boat. Your skills are top notch brother
When you were at max speed, were the pods still in contact with the water? The forward part of the pod face could create a high pressure area, give it a more bow like angle and you should pick up speed of the line and maybe overall speed
I really need some of these for my Jon boat it’s my very first one and it’s looking great I’m just not sure how to make more stability I have a casting deck with an 11 inch pivotal seat for passenger and 4 inch post in back where I control my motor and the side to side play is just to much for comfort . However I don’t have the materials or welder I need to make these.
I think having outriggers that could be engaged when the boat is not moving would be a better solution. This would preserve top speed and offer even more stability as they could be extended further out than the pods.
Looks good.... Wonder if further stabilty would be worth more decrease in mph. What would happen if pods increased half the leangth of boat but decreased in width (i.e. like a tapered pod half way up)??
just got my first tiny boat 14 JON and I already know that I want pods on it but can't Tig weld. so I have been watching lots of videos to mount pods/Beaver tails. Great stuff and your videos are amazing detailed which makes you one of the Top RUclipsrs in my book
I’ve got a 14’ I just traded for. Needs a lot of the same. Transom is garbage, it’s narrow and unstable. Will be following this build and duplicating a lot of what you’re doing! Cool boat!
Hey Anthony it looks great. How wide is the floor? I used crab pods on PVC on front and middle which allows me to stand on my casting deck. These outriggers also allowed to raise my seat 7”. Battery in the middle and two trolling motors. I added front outriggers after I posted my many very very short unedited videos.
I have a Tracker Topper 1232 and would DEFINITELY be interested in some pods to make it more stable. The concept is great considering how narrow the transom is.
Brilliant idea, and team effort for , what I believe is an extraordinary result. I’ve been wanting a 12’er for some smaller lakes in my area that are between 150-450 acres, (electric only) I’m a senior and balancing and stability is vital to me, I actually have a great welder in my extended family. Would these work on a 12’ x 36” as well, for even greater stability?
I have a 14ft "super wide" that is my river catfishing boat. It's quite stable, but I'm a big boy and would be very interested in adding float pods to my boat.
Are the pods filled with foam or hollow? And would it make a difference either or? Love watching your videos because your attention to detail. Can't wait to see the finished product
These wheels are awesome. I put them on my 10ft jon boat project. Unfortunately I only use a mirror and not a scale because I exceed the weight limit of the 10ft just looking at it. Hopefully a 12 ft could hold my 250 lb self.
I like the looks of the pods. I was surprised that's all the top end speed you lost, I thought it would have been more. Nice collaboration on the design and build. I'm sure that was a difficult thing to have the three of you do this all online. Good job. Out of curiosity, what would it be like if you had the pods the full length of the boat? Instead of being submerged and causing drag, I wonder if it would be up on plane more?
Thanks man! Yes, it was a timely but rewarding process! Great to work with other individuals as creative and like minded who all want to push the envelope! Not sure about your idea but I'm sure it would work if designed properly. My concern would be the weight. Id honestly cut a boat down the middle and widen it at that point. But for experiments sake, you could try your idea. And yes, be cheaper to buy a new boat but what's the fun in that? Also, i know plenty of youtubers who do experiments just like your idea and make tens of thousands of dollars off the video! If anyone were to do it, it would be someone with an audience!
Great idea. I have a 10 foot that I would consider putting pods on. What I think slowed you down, is the bottom front of the pod needs to be turned up just a hair so it doesn't catch the surface but rises on top. Just me. Thank you for sharing.
Your correct. Hard to get all the angles right with us all over the country. Could easily be fixed on another set or if fabricted with welderhaving boat in hand, the entire concept could be done by hand without need or a 3d design or rendering. It just helped us. Again, I am haply w it given the circumstances. Thanks!
What about making the pods longer say maybe 4 feet. The reason I ask is because I have a 80s model 10 foot and I'm kinda big guy so I was thinking of more flotation plus be more stable. If they are to become an available product I would probably be interested because I'm planning out a boat build
I wonder if mounting the float pods higher, to get them out of the water when you're on a plane and then in the water when you stop to fish, would be feasible?
Not sure. Honestly, id like them higher but the problem is the rib is in the way. So you need to cut the rib or better yet, notch the pods around it. Too difficult to design that without a boat in hand for fabricator. If a skilled metal worker had the boat im sure something could be fabricated up, but we designed this over the internet lol
Hi Anthony! I love the idea of float pods on my 12 footer but I wouldn’t be able to trailer my boat if I put them on the side like yours. I would be interested to see if it creates the same stability if they were mounted on the back. Thanks for reading.
No it's the width that gives stability but it would ride higher in the way creating less drag increasing too end and increases the load capacity these boats are very stable i have a 12ft and fish 2 people both standing never have had any issues it's only 3ft wide you'll never get a bass boat stability which is almost 7ft wide then the weight keeps it stable the lower in the water the more stability I've got a 9.5hp 196i johnson and with 2 people cruising at 15mph
The stability increase is from the added width. Again, it was a definite difference and increase over stock. Not sure what results others have, but my 12 was wobbly and super sketchy to even walk in before. We fish out of my 1436 two guys all day, but the 1232 just wasn't stable. No, the pods won't make it a bass boat, but noticeable increase in stability, especially in the rear while standing. My goal is to fish off an elevated rear deck, no way I'd do that the way it performed stack with no pods. Maybe it's just me, idk
Also, pods on rear of a 12 is not an option in my opinion. Transom is only 32 inches wide at bottom and you still need room for an outboard to turn. So that would leave you a tiny pod width. You'd then need to make up for that width with depth so you'd end up w a 6 inch wide by 3 ft long pod off the rear of your boat which just wouldn't work in my opinion. We brain stormed that option before going side mount, which actually allows width increase and the ability to run the 6 inch wide by 3 ft long pod i just mentioned in a working fashion that is also aesthetically pleasing
Love the content. I would definitely consider the pods. I own a tricked out 1979 lowes 12-v. Haven't got in in the water yet, just received my tohatsu 4hp. With the extra decking, electronics, batteries, etc, I have probably added 400lbs. I am anxious to see how it performs in the water. Keep up the great content!
I like it. I also like the launch wheels. I trailer mine 50% & carry/drag it 50%. It would be nice to modify a couple shallow water anchors that could share the same bracket as the launch wheels.
Hi Anthony. I’ve been a sub for sometime. Live the creativeness. I maintain 8 Jon boats for my fishing club. What would you recommend to seal up and lark proof my old riveted Jon’s. Frank in VA.
I will actually be covering this on a future video. I recommend a two part epoxy bottom coat. I will be doing a how to video on the process, and using Fasco Super Slick 1000 on mine.
I'm a big boy and own a 14 tlfoot Jon. I'm gonna weld myself up a set of pods for the sides and back. As well as build a deck across it. I'm a fabricator anyways and need to do this for my sanity.
Ive got a 12 foot i think I haven’t measured it. It may be a 14 but its narrow and kinda sketchy feeling as far as stability I think something like that would be cool
I think they are a great way to increase stability, like you proved. But, maybe if they could be lifted or twisted into place after transport, might be better?! In other words, it would be cool to be able to lock them into place only when you’re fishing.
Is there any way to get Nate to fab some pods using your plans for my boat? I want to add these for stability but don't have anyone around who can fab them.
Man I'm thinking of getting my first jon and I'm a big boy too so I think maybe putting some float pods on it maybe the move!! Any tips or suggestions on who I could possibly get me some?!
100% do it to my boat if it were affordable. Also would like custom built flotation foam bumpers like they put on Sportspal canoes. Thanks! Edit : I have a 14' that I bowfish from, I need the pods for stability not for extra flotation, I stand in front of boat and ass end lifts out of water so I put a battery in back and run the trolling motor in the front. Works ok but I do need more stability to be comfortable. Thanks!
I show the benefits in the video in demonstration...much increased side to side stability and added buoyancy to offset the weight I will add in the interior build of project.
I seriously appreciate your efforts and youreffort into the build .I think that's awesome, .... Question?....why not just go to a bigger boat? The family would probably appreciate it.. just asking..
I already have a bigger boat. That was the first build on my channel. The kids just wanted to cruise. This boat is my answer to a kayak for electric only lakes. Purpose built to be transportable, fish out of, and high performance on electric only lakes. Also, to go places a bigger boat on a trailer can never go, places with no boat ramp access.
Affordable is relative to the individual i guess. I will say, there is about 200$ just in materials right off the bat. So it would obviously be more than that . Basically if they could be produced and shipped without a dramatic markup. Time consuming to weld these. There may not be a middle ground to be honest. Tedious labor and expensive materials. We would aim to sell roughly at going rate of other aftermarket pods which are square and easier to make, that is the goal
Don’t get me wrong I appreciate the craftsmanship here. I’m a tradesman myself, so I totally get it. But I also begin to wonder at what point do you just go buy a nicer boat?
@@jessetharp6319 I used a 6'x18' float mat cut in strips the hole leanth of the boat 8"x6" glued and screwed ,but in no way cheap $400 for the float mat but my life is worth that I'm guessing. Looks like that Australian kapton callor. I have 14 foot v bottom.
@@jessetharp6319 yeah man idk. A lot of logistics involved with the tooling of getting molds made and making them out of plastic. Heck, seems to be quite involved just to make aluminum sets. The main thing is the actual 3d design process and templates, which we have, next is to find someone to mass produce or build to order. Then there's shipping, these weigh 26 pds. Basically so far we are finding it hard to produce and make a worthwhile profit for anything less than 500. It just ends up being a lot of work for everyone involved for minimal return at that point. While being a cool project, these were initially just supposed to be a one off set but upon testing and showing on social media before video, it got quite a response. I get the budget thing for sure. This boat really has none as it is in fact paid for by sponsors of the channel, and the channel itself. More about building the ultimate transportable 12 ft boat that can go where no trailered boat can go. Probably not the same budget or craftsmanship that would go into your everyday 12 ft boat but hopefully can inspire and push the envelope with these tiny boat builds.
Is there anything I do for my 10 ft like this bc I want add deck but I might use aluminum l mounts and hard foam for deck and some storage and small live well how can I go about doing something like this for 10ft
Follow the rrst of my build. You can do a deck but 10s are unstable unless you do something similar to what i did. Livewell is the problem as if you do a 15 gallon Livewell when its full of water you are adding 120 pds. Water is 8 pds a gallon. So 120 pds, plus you, plus outboard, plus gear, plus deck and floor materials, you'll be at 500 pds or more which is too much for a 10. I am not even putting a livewell in my 12 because just doesn't make sense weight wise.
I will only be running trolling motors like 30 to 35lb trust and did not want no huge live well and how would I go about making something like this is it just hollow in side welled aluminum
I wish I could get more stability on 1448 foot Jon/bass boat. The boat is 98% aluminum. Fishing deck is just under the gunnel and I am 6’ 3” and it feels unstable when moving around,

Would these work on a 12’ x 36” as well, for even greater stability?
have the same boat. Absolutely love the idea and need something myself. Any plans of sharing the plans or selling?
Simply outstanding!👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Cat!
Foam would make the pods less bouyant. If they're sealed 100% - air is lighter than foam
@@father_dev Gotcha, makes sense. Never heard of float pods before this video. Preciate the info
Th float pods are hollow. Thanks for watching and your support👊
Like these Float Pods. Was thinking about adding them to a 16' Deep V Boat. I need stability it rocks pretty bad.
Not sure about them on a 16 but if stability is an issue, you can always swap to a flat bottom. Vs aren't as stable.
@@AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats That's exactly what I was doing today.
These wheels are awesome. I put them on my 10ft jon boat project. Unfortunately I only use a mirror and not a scale because I exceed the weight limit of the 10ft just looking at it. Hopefully a 12 ft could hold my 250 lb self.
Interested if they were affordable, I'm a big guy with a small boat.
Ok I had to subscribe. Damn those pods are cool big thumbs up. I want those on my 12ft boat bad.
Thanks! And thanks for subbing👊
Cheaper to buy a new boat. Come on
@@AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats might have a guy if the price is right.
Really awesome! Been really wanting to do that for my 12 footer
Thanks man
what if i put theese on my v hull boat would it make it more stable
I would love a set of these for my 12' jonboat
Love the content. I would definitely consider the pods. I own a tricked out 1979 lowes 12-v. Haven't got in in the water yet, just received my tohatsu 4hp. With the extra decking, electronics, batteries, etc, I have probably added 400lbs. I am anxious to see how it performs in the water.
Keep up the great content!
I like it. I also like the launch wheels. I trailer mine 50% & carry/drag it 50%. It would be nice to modify a couple shallow water anchors that could share the same bracket as the launch wheels.
Let me know, I'm down for a set. I have a 12 ft V-hull boat. This thing needs more stability.
You'll know for sure if they become a production part!
Hell yeah let me order some
Would love some float pods. I’m using my grandfathers old 1232 he bought new in 1974. If they are affordable, I’d love to get some.
Love it! Would definitely put these on my 12’
Ive got a 12 foot i think I haven’t measured it. It may be a 14 but its narrow and kinda sketchy feeling as far as stability I think something like that would be cool
I have been looking for pods for my 12ft for a while. I would be interested in these for myself if the deal is affordable.
Contact Nate at NCB, new video on my channel answering questions and linking Nates contact info
I was thinking the same exact thing
Oh the pods go on back they were 270.00 the welder was 300.00 but he did a perfect job great welding and on aluminum the pods were made from 100 gauge
Looking forward to what your doing to your boat I’ve got one just like it that needs redone
Hey anthony I love your build and is intereasted in the ide mount float pods for my 14ft gamefisher . Send me some info for ordering them...
Thanks
did ya weigh yourself on each test run? could be a very important variable
I'm sure. You'd have to reach out to him. Can find him on Facebook at TBNation Outdoors Midwest or Nate's Custom Boats
I've got a 1432 and this is KING! My only question, how much money?
thats cool ,that wake is really impressive
Thanks man👊
Awesome stuff I would have put them even with the back transom but that's just me. Great job
I absolutely would love these for my 12 footer
I really need this for my 10 ft John boat they don’t sell them how would I get this
Man I'm thinking of getting my first jon and I'm a big boy too so I think maybe putting some float pods on it maybe the move!! Any tips or suggestions on who I could possibly get me some?!
Could you run the pods the full length of the boat?
I have what looks to be the same boat. Mines a 1967. It would be nice to make it more stable.
Nice job man. That was great.
I have been looking at pods for my 14footer but i want a ladder so my dpg can get back in the boat
I have actually been looking for a set for my 10ft Landau jon boat anyway i could get some
Where I can get it..??? I want it for my boat...any info..!!
There is an update video on my channel answering all pod questions and linking where to get
Yes I'm cutting my transom and extending it back on both sides
👊
i have a 14/36. I would be interest in something like this.
Thanks for the feedback 👊
I have a Lowe 1240. Most definitely would be interested too
Check out kapten boat collars from Australia.. 👆
Thanks!
What benefits do you get with flot pods?
Wondering that myself🤔im going to assume to keep the rear from rocking to hard.
I show the benefits in the video in demonstration...much increased side to side stability and added buoyancy to offset the weight I will add in the interior build of project.
@@AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats thank you for your time and info
Definitely worth consuidering if the price were reasonable. Small Jon boats were knick named "drown me quicks" back jn the day.
What’s is contraption is that one of them Tesla Outboard things....?
Pods look great and perform better than I was expecting👍. Can’t wait to see the undercoat painting👍👍
Thanks man. looking forward to the bottom coat!
I have an old 12ft that is terrible with stability. Are you going to start selling these????
I seriously appreciate your efforts and youreffort into the build .I think that's awesome, .... Question?....why not just go to a bigger boat? The family would probably appreciate it.. just asking..
I already have a bigger boat. That was the first build on my channel. The kids just wanted to cruise. This boat is my answer to a kayak for electric only lakes. Purpose built to be transportable, fish out of, and high performance on electric only lakes. Also, to go places a bigger boat on a trailer can never go, places with no boat ramp access.
Nice
I don’t know what qualifies as “affordable” but I’d definitely be interested in better stability in my 12’.
I know metal is preferable but would molding something out of plastic be more affordable? I mean, we are talking about a budget Jon boat build here
Don’t get me wrong I appreciate the craftsmanship here.
Do you think it would work with a 12ft Sea King Deep V?
Nice - cool addition
