I have been struggling with Pure-O for some years now, particularly illness OCD.
If you have similar experiences, you're not alone. Find a good psychiatrist, go to therapy, quit bad habits, avoid negative people, and tell yourself that you will make it through. Things will get better.

I've learned recently that pure O doesn't really exist. Even mental checks count as compulsions. U should check out OCD recovery channel alot of great information.

Hello. I know this is an old comment, but have you tried therapy and/or medication? I can only speak for myself but things really started to change for me when I was just honest with my doctor. It was hard to talk to him about, but I'm glad I did. He prescribed some medicine and I asked him to refer me to a therapist. It has not been easy. Finding the right meds/therapy has been very hard, but once I found something that worked for me it was life changing.
I guess I'm trying to say, you're not alone. There are literally millions of people out there who want (and can) help. All you need to do is reach out.

To anyone who's suffering from OCD, I suggest you to read "Freedom from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, by Dr. Jonathan Grayson", cover to cover.
TL;DR: The core of OCD is "Intolerance of Uncertainty". Find and name the uncertainties you cannot tolerate. Then, learn to live with them. You have no other choice.

Such a concise explanation of the illness.
In the past 4 years I have been unable to work due to OCD and chronic pain.
Over that time, my OCD has snowballed, just as you mentioned in the video.
Nearly everything i do has a ritual involved with it, handwashing is the worst offender.
Complete handwashing has taken me upward to 1 hour without stopping at its worst, generally it takes me 5 to 25 minutes to wash my hands 'the right way'.
It has destroyed my ability to function as an employee, and caused numerous arguments with family members and other people.
I hate it, and I wish I could just go back to normal.

I'm really sorry to hear this. I have OCD intrusive thoughts and rumination. It's a nightmare, but thankfully I'm still functional. I hope you get the help you need and find a remedy. There was a recent research article came out that showed people with OCD have a chemical imbalance between GABA and glutamate neurotransmitters in their brains. This is a promising finding, for if we can address this chemical imbalance, maybe we can cure OCD or at least alleviate the symptoms.

    • @badnewsbruner

@@ThatOneScienceGuy Thank you so much, and I'm sorry you also deal with OCD symptoms.
Rumination, I've never heard of that one.
Maybe that's why I talk about the same one or two things I'm excited about until people tell me the stop, lol.
That's a good find, I'm gonna read up on that imbalance issue.
      Thank you.
One day we will all be cured, Jesus will come, and we will get new perfect bodies, and our mental anguish will end.
      Amen.

Yes & that's exactly what has happened with me. I was just a teenager when I got ocd because of something that I suddenly remembered had happened with me in childhood. I used to be a very cheerful person before ocd turned me into a girl who hate her life. I am suffering from it since May 2014. Its been these many years and it has only got worst.
