    Laughter also acts as a signal to those around us that something cause for alarm, for instance when someone falls and is hurt people dont laugh but when they fall and are fine it is funny. laughter signals that everything is alright (ie dont call an ambulance). It also shows that a person is alright with actions taken towards them, for instance in play it signals that the actions are not harmful/threatening. When people see something uncomfortable laughter is telling everyone not to worry.

    I suggest you watch it again, you missed the point about atheists. Here's a hint - he made them swear on the bible. If they are atheists (as they are), swearing on the bible shouldn't make a different. It did.

    It's because of how humor works 'in the brainnn'. Just say anything weird in a serious voice. The moment your brain realizes this was not meant to be serious, it starts lauging. "Maybe we should be focussing less on Goldilocks and more on why Mama and Papa bear don't sleep in the same bed anymore." could be a joke. Saying "During my experiments I hurt people. A lot of people. For a long time." It's exactly like a joke! So the sad part is that we laugh about people this serious subject xD I think

    I don't think it's so much the unexpected. If it was random you would not laugh. Humour to a extent is trained in to people. People are trained to a extent to laugh at people getting hurt. Rather than say oh look it rained... Oh look a tile feel off the roof... would not be that funny. I think it's a release of energy if someone said don't do drugs then poped some pills in front of you. And said as I said don't do drugs, give them to me. It might be seen as funny. Doctors are suppose to heal.

    I have utmost respect for the professor, but his arguments about the stock market are misleading. Buying stock is as close to money as holding a check. And derivatives are not sold on the stock market. Again. Brilliant man. I agree with all of his points on morality, but if he would really like to do research on stock market behavior, he needs to team up with somebody who actually understands its implementation. I do agree that any rule/law should be partially based on this kind of research.

    Maybe I should watch it again, but I didn't hear the man say there was a different result from the atheists when they weren't asked to swear on the bible. If they are really nonbelievers, the bible should not have any effect on their actions, where it might for believers. I also didn't hear him mention a control group, without which his experiments results are useless. I enjoyed the talk, as I do all Ted talks, and even though I'm not a atheist I still found that bit bothersome.

      Maybe it's not about believing, but the importance people grant to religion ; and that even if you don't believe you understand that it would be disrespectful to the believers to cheat about this.

    there is a definite advantage to the nurses in their way of removing bandages. It is quicker& less painful for them. This could very likely color their interpretations of relevant data

  • @thatguyunknoe
    @thatguyunknoe 11 лет назад

    My only question is what happens when you are competing against another group. For example split the students into two groups give each person different problems (while keeping all other variables the same) and the group that finishes the most problems gets the money. How would the cheating levels change? And if you had one group just blatantly cheat the other what would happen in the next testing session?

  • @ascarletmoon17
    @ascarletmoon17 11 лет назад

    I don't cheat on tests, tests are way to important. And usually when there's an assignment that I don't understand I go ask the teacher for help. I'm getting better at not cheating

    One of my favourite Ted speeches. It gives us a great explanation of why the stock market and business in general runs the way it does. Policy makers need to see this and stop following their "gut" or god and test things to see what works best.

    Personally, I've never cheated and never had the temptation to cheat. When I find a question that I don't know, I become aggravated with myself, but have never searched for the answers on other people's papers. I understand that cheating is the "clever" solution around things, but I personally believe it fucks up the purpose of schools.
