    Thanks Karen. Beautiful piece! Thanks too, for the tip about adding the red between yellow and blue. It’s not the first time I’ve heard it, but not often enough to remember it so definitely going to give that a go. Blessings to you!

    Absolutely phenomenal illustration of Engle's technique. I have her book, and seem to not get as good result as you do, which is why you're the one making the videos! 😉 This video is one of a handful that i have saved to re-watch. Despite using good quality paper and paints, my colors do not blend as smoothly. If I spray the sunset with water, either it gets too wet and waaaay to drippy, or is too dry and blossoms. My tendency is to use too much water, as there was an artist on our local public TV station decades ago, Alwyn Crawshaw. He felt beginners did not use enough water. His regular comment was, "Remember, bags of water!" I still use buckets of water to this day.

    • @KarenRiceArt
      @KarenRiceArt  Год назад

      Thank you for sharing! I loved watching Alwyn Crawshaw in the early 90s! I always tell my students bags of water after that... great advice. Really pleased you liked this tutorial. To help you I would make sure you wet your paper throughly at the start, make sure you have no puddles before you apply the paint. The apply lots of paint. Then start to tilt and blend. If it has dried spritz gently but not too much or it will get drippy. Keep tilting and collecting the puddles at the bottom of the paper. Don't panic. Don't go in with your brush. Trust the process. Hope this helps.

    Karen when you say that you have "wet your paper" does that mean just on the surface or have you stretched it prior to doing this painting? I am getting confused as to when to stretch and when to just soak?...prior to painting? I mean surface soak as to overall soak?

    • @KarenRiceArt
      @KarenRiceArt  Год назад

      Great question Debbie... I just mean I wet the surface. I no longer stretch my paper. I either buy thicker paper or blocks that help with paper warping.
