I'll also show you how to clean and care for your brushes. I use my own brushes for both watercolor and gouache. #gouache #artsupplies

One thing that wasn’t mentioned about cleaning brushes is to use cool water, warm or hot water can melt the glues in the ferrules and you can loose bristles over time and ruin the brush.
Yes!
@@SarahBurnsStudio and of course thanks for all the lovely content and art you share with everyone! 😊 Forgot to say that firstly. Oops.
Hi there! I was painting for a couple of years (watercolor) and then life prevented me from painting for the last 2 years. Now my mother gifted me a Caran D'Ache Gouache set and I start painting again. And I thought 'watch some brush video's to get back the vibe'.
I painted along side your video, and had a lot of fun. Thank you for your amazing videos! ☺🤗
I truly appreciate the education on brushes that you’ve provided for us today. There was one thing you said that was of great help to me…”It to me a lot of years” in sorting out what you like and your style (my wording with yours). We watch edited videos so not always seeing the full process and I for one have had to remind myself that it takes the artist I’m watching much longer, as a rule, in painting something very nice and finished. I’ve been painting with watercolors now for over six years and I still consider myself a newbie😊
Hey Sarah! Just wanted to let you know how happy I am with the subscription boxes. I hesitated in signing up because we're trying to save money these days; but, the quality of all of the included products is great, and the video content is just incredible!! Can't believe how much I've learned in just the first three months!! Well worth the investment!!
Thank you Sarah, that was so helpful and clear! I've really struggled to find brushes I like and the 2 brushes of yours I now have are absolutely perfect. I'm definitely going to be looking after them very carefully.
Thoughtful review Sarah. Thanks
It’s so easy to go monkey brain and just try to do everything with just one or two brushes. (You know, just holding on to what’s in my hand lol.) This is a great reminder of the possibilities! Thanks!
"Monkey brain" is a fantastic way to put it. I relate heavily
@@spam-el3eeMe too!! 🙉

Recently found your channel and really appreciate all your detail and dedication to making such high quality teaching materials!
All the brushes look great, I can't wait to start getting the subscription boxes! I have your original brush set from Craftamo and I love them. They are perfect for gouache and there are no other brushes like them. 😊

Great & informative video! Thank you😊my favorite brush is the long flat😊but as your new brushes come in the subscription boxes I look forward to experimenting with them!😊
Love everything you do ❤
Cat tongue, dagger are my favs
Nice explanation!
I ordered the monthly kit, I’m excited for all the new brushes that will come with them every month, but especially the dagger and cat tongue brushes since I’ve been wanting to try them for a while, and not only will I get to try them but I assume that the painting we do that month will use them in some way so I can get used to them right away! I think this is the first time I’ve ever commented but I’ve been watching your channel for a long while now and I cannot wait to get my first kit in the mail! Thank you for putting everything together and for the 12 tutorials to come!
My favorite brushes are the flat brushes. I am really enjoying your brush set from Craftamo. I hope you can release some more brush sets in the future!
Your idea of the boxed set w tutorial is just fantastic. I don't know of anyone else doing this. Perfect for anyone who wants to get started in a medium (like gouache) that's new to them. BRAVO!
Just got your Gouache brush set - I am very happy... can´t wait to explore all of them - wohoo!
Awesome! Have fun!!
I have a set of five 'special effects' brushes. After playing with them for an afternoon, I went back to my usual set of three: 1 inch flat, size 8 round, and a rigger.
Very useful thank you
This shows me how much I need to start using more brushes than my rounds. That is one thing I am looking forward to with your gouache subscription box is learning more about using the other brushes.
Nice brushes thank you for going over the purpose of each brush. Years ago, I found a good way and a cheap way to clean your brushes and that is a bar of original Ivory soap and it reminds me of the product you just used because the paint comes out on the soap and it works really well.
Thank you for sharing your videos
Great video! I just found squirrel hair brushes and am loving them! Other than that, my fave brush is a cat’s tongue shaped sable. They are extremely versatile and make such great shapes. I’ve never used a dagger, but after watching this I’m going to get one and try it out. Thanks again!
i love to illuminate lettering (for calligraphy) and thanks to you, I now have added the rigger brush. Faithful subscriber!
I cannot wait to get all these brushes in the monthly boxes !!!
I’m new to gouache and learning a lot from your videos. I also just ordered your 7 brush set and can’t wait to play!
Ohh exciting! I hope you have lots of fun!
Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge, much appreciated. Looking forward to more. (You voice tone and speed are calming, thank you for that. Some are unbearable, like last one I watched . Lol )
Oh, thanks for that. Great video about brushes. I just bought some cheapo ones to practice with. I think there's one of those you mentioned at the end in there. Haven't tried that one yet. Looking forward to your next video. Take care. 🥰
I love using the round brush. Your videos have helped me learn how to have fun and play again when it comes to art!
I'm so glad!
Thanks for this great video. In watercolor class few years ago we used a angled shape brush to create a bit of highlight where needed by removing easily pigment with just the wet brush
These brushes look so nice! :D Some of my favorite brushes for watercolor is the Silver Black Velvet round brushes. They are just so versatile, often I only use one size for a full painting!
Great video! For me, my favorite brushes are quill mops for watercolor and long flats for gouache. I haven't found any super weird brushes yet, but I haven't quite figured out fans yet. One day!
daggers are my fave! i have some really soft ones, and i love the spontaneous, organic marks
Mop brush for sure is my favorite
Thank you!
I ordered your brushes. Can’t wait to try them. 🤗
Great video ❤
What a wonderful first class as I await my first kit! I absolutely had no idea how to hold or move a paint brush and was astonished by how limitless the brushes are - and then the application of color! Truly amazing to watch the paint move and transform - thank you Sarah for this tutorial! I can't wait to get started! Leah (aka Lynn)
Congratulations on the art boxes. I’m sure they will be jam packed with priceless knowledge. 💪😎
As for the brush of choice 🤔 a nice chonky round mop with a good point 🥰🥰🥰
This video was so insightful! I didn't realize how some of these could be used until I saw this and it made so much sense! Thank you so much for sharing this ;w; 🖤💜💙💚💛🧡❤💖🌈
Quill, rigger and Flat brushes ❤
Hi! I found your video to be very informative, yet in a laid-back manner, easy to absorb. Gouache is new to me, and my soft watercolor brushes aren’t working the way I’d like. I’m ready to give your brushes a dip into my gouache! Thanks for all the info. 😊
Thank you 😊
Thanks. I found you after you were on Lindsey's podcast. I enjoy your tutorials very much. I'm just getting into gouache painting with my watercolors and enjoy learning. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You live in a beautiful country. Hope to visit one day
I love the look of your brushes. Congratulations on your subscription boxes. Hopefully after Christmas ♥️
Congrats. Watching you grow since you were on 1fw. Happy you have found your grove. Also now because of you I have to make it out to Scotland and do some painting.
Really good video it helps👍
round, rigger, flat , dagger, fan brushes, water brushes for outside paintings are my favourites and thanks for the brush technique on teaching me what I should know, my tables need a good cleaning so I can find some room.
I love the long bristled flat for its versatility
I keep trying to make friends with my dagger brushes 🥴. I used my angle brushes for adding shadows mostly. Funny you didn’t like the comb brush- I love it for painting fur. I bought a quill brush that I think is mostly meant for lettering but I love it for everything- it can make super thin lines, thick lines, it holds a ton of paint or water, I have painted entire paintings with this one quill brush! Thank you for posting such great content- I always look forward to your videos!
Thank you for this video, Sarah! Love me a good dagger brush!😉
Hello Sarah, thank you so much for all the videos you do, especially when you are out and about plein air painting in the Highlands and forests of Scotland. Just love those videos. But this one was really great too. Your assessment of all your favourite brushes was superb. I did enjoy it. We do not have a teacher for our art group now as our original teacher retired with ill health. We all watch art videos and bring the expertise of professional artists like yourself to our group and share our researches. My favourite brushes are the Winsor and Newton professional pointed round brushes. They hold large amounts of water/paint and have a long fine and delicate point, all real sable hairs. Had my set for years and with care, they will last me out. Kind regards, Kathy Moffat.
Thank you :) I love making plein air videos, though they are the most challenging!
Hi Sarah, I just discovered your channel today. Your artwork is beautiful and inspiring. I love the way you use colour and your creamy blues and washes of magenta hue choices are my style too! I'm in the process of learning, at what is the very beginning it feels like. As you gain knowledge the more and more you realize there is to learn 😅 Mostly watercolour. I like the idea of mixed media and also have qouache I want to become good friends with. This video of yours on brushes is exactly what I need. It's fun to have versatile brushes in your arsenal like the round type. Also, I think it could be fun to try some of those very specific brush types to make easier work of some techniques. I'm going to go play with the various types I have and learn more about them through exploration! Thanks for the inspiration, Sarah!
