I’ve been a subscriber of you guys for years, often reccing your videos to friends around Halloween time as inspiration and guidance. I’ve always admired not only your skill set in SFX and video making but also your ingenuity when it comes to materials.
So please know that I’m saying this with the best intentions, and in no way I mean disrespect.
Something I always loved about your videos was that no matter how talented or skilful one was, your vids would provide with step by step by step guide along the entirety of the mask, costume, etc. I understand that for time sake it’s always good to have a separate, specific video on a process you do constantly, like fangs making or so. But in this particular video, for example, we don’t even get a shot of what fang shapes are we supposed to do, how many of each, or the logistics at the time of applying them to the latex paste. I, personally, can see that there’s more than one row and they require different thickness of the paste along the jaw, in order to achieve dimension and depth, but I’m trained to look at those details because I have a high skill set. Not everyone is.
I understand you want to give viewers creative freedom and also save time, but I believe I’m not the only one that would gladly watch 5 minutes more for some extra guidance on these little details. After all, give a student all the tools but no explanation or guide and you, more often than not, just get messes and frustration.
And that’s my point, really. In the beginning, it didn’t matter how complicated or difficult a project was, and if the viewer didn’t know anything about sfx or anything, it was achievable by anyone watching. I remember long videos with loving, patient detailing of each step of the process. And that’s what made me love your channel and subscribe.
I must admit that I’m quite saddened with a barely 11 minute video on such an intricate project.
Anyway, I really hope you guys can understand where I’m coming from and know that I respect and admire you both. Still a subscriber and still a fan. Cheers
