Hey Pedro, I used to own a 66R Dark Lacquer Tenor and a System 76 Gold Lacquer Alto both fantastic horns throughout my college years and they both held up really well. Keep it up with the great work!
Hey buddy. Thanks for the comment. Thats awesome that you had the 66R. I tried it myself and I liked it very much. These horns are work horses and will last a very long time, so I'm excited to see how long they will last me. Thanks for watching! :)
I just wanna say thank you for making this video it helped me see what it can do and today I finally went out and bought one for myself, my favorite part is the sound I understand what he means by it I suggest you buy this horn great sound and great quality
Yea I have a 62 year old horn that sounds great but tunes poorly where is a good place to test drive this horn and whats the difference from the 66,76 and 86 models,Thanks
Hey Pedro, What Legere reed should i get if i play classical music on an alto sax? I play at high school so how long does one last seeing as I go through a few reeds somewhat quickly?
Sam Polite the classic cut is going to give you the tone you need for classical music. Check the strength chart to see what would work for you. Use my code to get 15% off "MUSICBYPEDRO". Also the best part is that if you get one and it doesn't fit for you then go through their exchange program and they'll send you a different strength for free. Let me know if you have any questions.
Hi Pedeo, I'm currently playing a pain in the a** Conn 16M for the last 12years and looking to get a PM 20 aniversary T sax, need a piece of advice from you or a subscriber😅.
I've been looking into getting this horn because when I tried a friend's system 76 I just fell in love with it. But he has shown me that the keywork isn't very sturdy and had to be repaired a couple months after he bought it. Do you have this problem with the horn as well?
i have a 76 2nd tenor but , I don't know if there is a design error .Octave mecanism plastic leave for practice season ibb.co/gt5B3DM (It is annoying to constantly check ) .Company customer service cannot answer. The mechanism cannot function when that little plastic is not there.
Thanks for the video Pedro. How do take care of the lacquer on the instrument though? I also have the same instrument and my lacquer is deteriorating. How do u keep the dark lacquer in prime condition?
HI Pedro. I was watching very close you how formed your embouchure on both mouthpieces. And, I didn't see much difference from the video you did on the alto. Was this a correct observation? thanks.
My embouchure is the same on any saxophone. Great observations. It all comes down to how much mouthpiece you need to take and have in your mouth. Check the out embouchure videos for more information. :)
Very interesting. I'm even more curious to watch the forthcoming tenor embouchure video. If I might suggest, you might add a plastic mouthpiece to the mix. That'll cover everything. Thanks for all the great instruction.
Great vid, I’m considering System76, Le bravo or Antigua power bell 4240, cost wise the latter two are friendly which is the reason I’m thinking towards that, sound wise I love System76. Do you know if the build quality of System 76 is superior to the other two or would they be similar considering they are all from Taiwan? I have tried Le Bravo and System 76 yet to try the Antigua
+Francesco Fantozzi you know, I actually got mine brand new and I didn't find any issues. Obviously I'd need more info ok the mechanics that you say have problems, but I think it could be due to user negligence.
Thanks for the answer. The two used PM that i found didn't sound on low range, and had some pads that remained attached when playng. I know 2 seller that have or have had these sax in my zone, (North East of Italy.) One of them stopped to sell PM 'cause of the high number of instrument that return with some problem for to repair.
Not all new instruments will sell in the best playing condition. Always be ready to get some small repairs done, as some instruments can be damaged during shipping.
I'd say spend half the money on a great horn instead of a project horn. Contrary to popular beliefs, Mark VI's aren't for everybody. Get a great pro horn, new, then you can look at it in the future. I prefer my Syste 76 over a Selmer Serie II that I was playing for 16 years.
Music By Pedro Dave Koz plays a 62 alto, so then I saved up my money and bought a used first generation 62 in high school. I tried a Mark VI owned by my improvisation teacher, didn't like it, I guess I am too attached to my horn, and as a young player I didn't want to change my sound. Went to a Sam Ash to buy reeds but I ended up trying a Cannonball and a 76 in the store. I came out of the store with a couple of boxes of Hemke reeds and a brand new 76.
I just sold my Trevor James horn for a use 76 second edition big difference this horn it sings when you play it compared to my Trevor, which was like a diesel freight train. It was a heavy horn and he really needs to warm it up before he gets serious on it, but this really sings the 76
Hai i play the P.Mauriat 55 swing jx body bow and neck is bronze the bell is brass and has silver content in it, but far as i know it is a discontinued model and a Jod Jazz hr mouthpiece love the combo
I just got one a few weeks ago. I got the 76 version 2 and the case although it may look small there's plenty room. A compartment inside the case under where the sax goes and plenty of pockets on the outside for reeds and anything else you may need.
Hey Pedro, I just started self teaching myself how to play alto sax, and I know some notes(like d-high c in that sorta range) but I'm kinda stuck now, I don't really know any songs to play and there are many notes that I can't find on the internet, any suggestions?
You should find a band method book to get you going. Also some private lessons. I do have some good mini lessons on alto if you check out my mini lesson playlist. Also make sure you're subbed so you can get more lesson videos and reviews/tips in the future.
I love your assessment of the horn! Great acknowledgement of both the look and sound. I did notice that you did a decent amount of processing on the saxophone when focusing on its sound... I'm a big believer in using the tools available in the context of a recording, but when trying to evaluate the tone of an instrument, try to avoid excessive use of effects such as reverb, eq, and compression.
So I emailed P. Mauriat to find a dealer in SoCal... I received a response back from Albert Musical Instruments Co. in Taiwan. They stated they forwarded my contact info to a local dealer who would contact me shortly... So, these are Taiwanese horns, NOT French. Disheartening ☹️ I can probably buy a $400 new Tenor off of Amazon and it will be made by the same artisan, same factory and materials.

Clicked like before even watching. You can never go wrong with a video by Pedro!
Aww, thanks buddy! Thanks for the support! :)
Abolone is a shell I believe. Great sounding horn.. got a black pearl tenor coming soon.
Your setup and mine are so similar! I’m going to try your Ponzol mouthpiece. Solid, bright tone man! You rock.
whats the difference In this horn to the 66?
I just wanna say thank you for making this video it helped me see what it can do and today I finally went out and bought one for myself, my favorite part is the sound I understand what he means by it I suggest you buy this horn great sound and great quality
May get this horn as a back up, love these P. Muriat 2ND editions. Awesome.
Definitely a great horn. Let me know what you end up getting! :)
What about the 66? Your opinion please.
Hello Pedro, very nice. How do you like the Ponzil mouthpiece compared to a Jody Jazz Superjet?
GReat Pedro please i would like to know what your set up about metal mouthpiece thank you
Do you think if i used another mouthpiece(syos smoky probably) I could get a lighter jazz tone?
Abalone is the shell of a sea snail sort of thingy. They carve the keys out of that
We have the same neckstrap! xD I love how you are showing off this gorgeous horn and I'm looking at your neckstrap.
Running_Boy_12 haha. I have a New BG neckstrap now and I absolutely love it.
abalone is a sea snail shell and they look awesome on that horn how is the intonation on these
+james moscoso yes the abalone is great. Intonation is scary good. Like I didn't have to adjust anything like I used to with my old horn.
Yea I have a 62 year old horn that sounds great but tunes poorly where is a good place to test drive this horn and whats the difference from the 66,76 and 86 models,Thanks
That's a great question, but one I can't answer since I haven't personally played the remaining horns. Sounds like a good idea for a video... :)
hey Pedro, are you gonna a do a "have a gander" for a p. mauriat bari sax?
Very soon! Stay tuned! :)
Music By Pedro Yay!
What website did you purchase it from?
What country do you live in? I can recommend different stores :)
Music By Pedro I live in the US
Nivre 2004 then wwbw.com would be a good choice. Keep me posted and let me know if you have any questions via email.

Music By Pedro what other instruments do you play other than the sax

How much does one of these cost used?? I'm looking to by a tenor.
I have a pretty low musical budget, but I really fell in love with dark lacquered tenor saxes from P. Mauriat. I truly need one!
Oh same. I had to save up to get them but it was definitely worth it! :)
i have a 76 2nd tenor but , I don't know if there is a design error .Octave mecanism plastic leave for practice season ibb.co/gt5B3DM (It is annoying to constantly check ) .Company customer service cannot answer. The mechanism cannot function when that little plastic is not there.
From what I can see, that plastic piece is needed. You may need to contact your local shop to confirm its working correctly.
@@musicbypedro new date same products model this part improved ibb.co/WcNH3xm
Thanks for the video Pedro. How do take care of the lacquer on the instrument though? I also have the same instrument and my lacquer is deteriorating. How do u keep the dark lacquer in prime condition?

Does it have the high F# key?
What do you use for your jazz setup on this saxophone.
Loved this video.

Hi Pedro I like your tenor sound. What is the model of your Ponzol mouthpieces, the M2 or M2+ ?
+William Morel for this video I use a JodyJazz. Check out my description to learn more about my gear. Thanks.
my gear info is over at www.kit.com/musicbypedro
Tomorrow this is gonna be a year old :)
Hi Pedro. Is the mechanics of PM reliable and durable? I've found two used PM with some problems in mechanics. Thanks
+Francesco Fantozzi you know, I actually got mine brand new and I didn't find any issues. Obviously I'd need more info ok the mechanics that you say have problems, but I think it could be due to user negligence.

What would you say to a kid who is ready to go pro and looking for a Mark VI?
I'd say spend half the money on a great horn instead of a project horn. Contrary to popular beliefs, Mark VI's aren't for everybody. Get a great pro horn, new, then you can look at it in the future. I prefer my Syste 76 over a Selmer Serie II that I was playing for 16 years.

Glad to hear that. There's a weird school of thought that thinks heavy means good, and they're not right by any means! :)
Hai i play the P.Mauriat 55 swing jx body bow and neck is bronze the bell is brass and has silver content in it, but far as i know it is a discontinued model and a Jod Jazz hr mouthpiece love the combo
The case looks really small, is there any room for the neck and mouthpiece?
Ashton Öates he said there was
I just got one a few weeks ago. I got the 76 version 2 and the case although it may look small there's plenty room. A compartment inside the case under where the sax goes and plenty of pockets on the outside for reeds and anything else you may need.

isn't this the same one as the one Derek Brown uses?
EnergentPower 88 yes Derek plays System 76 DK Tenor
Hey Pedro, great videos! What finish is your horn? Unlacquered?
Mason Thomas Music It’s a Dark Lacquer.
I have the bari sax version of this horn and I'm absolutely in love with it. Would love to eventually get the tenor and alto version at some point.
rambolikesCOD oh awesome. I think you mean the PMB-300? They don't make a System 76 in the bari.
Music By Pedro exactly what I meant, I know that the models are very similar makes though.
rambolikesCOD oh yeah. I'm gonna get the PMB300 very soon. It feels like the System 76.
I love your assessment of the horn! Great acknowledgement of both the look and sound.

Wow u know your classical dude, ☺👍
Hiiiiiii my name is Samson, I am new saxophonist just 2 year ago, what is your tenor's model.
Salut, un petit bonjour de la France ;)
Bonjour :)
why do you have the best musical instruments
You're too nice. Its taken me a long time to try and find them, but I'm extremely happy with my choices! :)
Is it just me or does the sax just not really fit in a classical setting? That's just my opinion though!
+MeisterMusic I think with a nice mouthpiece combo you can get a great classical sound. Definitely experiment with it.
I want your alto p.mauriat system 76. I wish i have money for it. I only have lade and its CHINA i wish for that hmm we cant aford that thing
I've been playing for about 6 years and I'm getting a cannonball
So I emailed P. Mauriat to find a dealer in SoCal... I received a response back from Albert Musical Instruments Co. in Taiwan.
