Did you ever make the video showing how to modify the case for backpack carrying? I just bought this sax for my son and that is his only wish - he too prefers to carry it on his back. Thanks so much!
I am so glad I found this solid review (5 years after you made it, April 2023). It’s time for me to upgrade and move on. I have a wonderful workhorse vintage Martin bari. It looks as though it’s been used hard, but it sounds amazing. Had a thumb rest added in a very different position, but it’s still not comfortable for some of the hand issues I have. I’m finding more and more need for the low A. I’m playing a lot more than I ever thought possible since I’ve been sort of forced to retire. Thought the bari would be for “once in a while,” but now I’m the bari player in a big band, as needed for the local college jazz ensemble, and a few other summer bands, a couple community bands, and at church. It’s a lot, and I’m loving it and making up for lost time by having a career and raising kids - there just wasn’t time. Anyway, at this point, I need something more ergonomically appropriate for me. I’m planning a trip to Sweetwater to play the dark lacquer horn (I didn’t see this one on their website). Love the look of the black pearl, but it appears Sweetwater doesn’t have it and I have concerns that the plated horn will not have the sound I need for primarily jazz and (conservative) church playing. The community bands wouldn’t know bright vs dark sound if it hit them in the head. Obviously, I need to hold it, feel it, play it, and hear it. BUT - How does it hold up? Is it a “forever horn?” I’m 57. It’s a giant investment for me. My old Martin is tried and true, 75 years old, and still trucking (my tech keeps it at its best - regular visits to that guy!). I have a Syos custom mouthpiece with an extended shank (for jazz, needed a bright sound) because it played sharp for me regardless of what I did. I know this is long…. I see other people post things about horns “not holding up.” I’m not sure what that means - do they abuse them, not take care of them, or what? How does one just “not hold up?” I have a Selmer student alto from 1964, needs some air leaks fixed and some pads replaced when the day comes a grandchild wants to play it. But it’s certainly serviceable. I have a 1938 Martin alto, 1945 Buescher tenor, and the 1948 Martin bari. They are still trucking. So, why would a gorgeous pro horn such as this one possibly “not hold up?” (Would love any thoughts on that! Thank you in advance!)
Im pretty sure i use that one at school just a different color. The feel is really nice. And I love how it goes to a low A. Some older models of bari saxs only go down to a low b flat.
What a Gorgeous bari! I'm extremely jealous... and what a beautiful rendition of "Irish Tune from County Derry", which is one of the songs we had in our folder, but did NOT get to play in Civic Band this summer. I'm hoping we get to play it next year... again, GORGEOUS instrument!
Ha kick ass, I thought that part was really funny but that is one beautiful sax right there my man! I play Alto and soprano but I hope to get into the baritone soon!
+Adrian Braga hi. I’m still here. Sorry for the lack of uploads. I’ve been super busy with one of my current work ventures but I hope to have some time to get something out soon! Thanks for your patience.
If you're in the US, try Woodwind Brasswind. They might have it there. If not then contact mailto:adam.macblane@stlouismusic.com for more info! Tell him Pedro sent ya! :)
So I saw that you play on Jody mpcs so I wanted your opinion on their power ring ligatures. I'm thinking about getting one and would love to know your opinion on them. Thanks!
+Bob Jones I currently have the power log for my tenor and bari and I absolutely love the response they give me. Definitely get one if you're in the market.
Hello! So I recently acquired a Chu Berry Tenor sax from my grandfather. It isn't in the best of shape, but I hope to get it fixed up soon. I was wondering, would it be worth it to buy older instruments rather than new ones? I'd like to get a matching alto to go with it but I am not sure whether it would be worth it. I have heard older instruments have good sound due to the materials they are made of, but I don't know much besides that. I hope you can help! :)
A good horn is relative on its condition. I've played Good Mark VI horns and bad ones. Then there's some that are bad regardless of condition. Which that can be relevant, until I personally try and test it.
+BlueJay I recommmend saving up until you do. I didn't wait and got something lower quality and ended up buying two horns. Better to buy one good horns than 1 ok horn and then 1 great horn.
Could you make a video on how to properly take care of an Alto Saxophone and the others? (I play Alto and want to keep it on good shape) if you already have one could you link it to me?
Music By Pedro I'm in the US. I know about their website, WE as in we the PEOPLE want to know STREET price, NOT what P. Mauriat has them listed at. Thanks.
Hello! I just watched this video (April 2023) and reading reviews to find people who actually own P Mauriat bari horns. I’m looking to buy one (300, the dark vintage lacquer finish, but now this gorgeous cognac one needs considered!). Finish aside - I see reviews of some horns where people say they “don’t hold up.” Not sure if they abuse them or what, but - how is this horn for you? Do you still own it? Play it much? Would you call it a “forever horn” for someone looking to upgrade/update from a vintage workhorse (that weighs as much as one)? I would greatly appreciate if you could reply. Thank you in advance!
Your name was really familiar but I didn't know where i regonized it. But now I remember you were part of the making of Adam's (skydoesminecraft/net nobody's) New world minecraft parody!
A lot of vintage horns didn't have a low A, and many of the best bari players known to man played on them. Some find them preferable to Low A baris, because the bottom of the horn speaks a little better without the extra 8 inches of tubing.
+MARKLINMAN1 actually they are shaped by hand. The metal may be machine made but they are then handled by techs to shape into the part it needs to be. 🙂
AWESOME, i have been looking at them and can't find a COGNAC finish. I may get the UNLAQUERED one instead, i REALLY LOVE how this BEAST sounds, then again YOU could make a LOG sound AMAZING! TRUTH. Be well and thank you for ALL your videos, been following you for a while. I just ordered that same JODY JAZZ, i ordered the DV NY in a 7*, pricey but i LOVE JJ Mouthpieces. I Play A JJ "CHI" 7* on my YAMAHA 62III Tenor and love it.
Darren Morales I have perfect pitch and I promise you’re not impressing anyone. Nobody wants to hear “oh you’re off 6 cents” (especially since most of the video he’s actually not.)
I really don't need a new horn but this review is quite convincing.
Your tone is fantastic on bari!
Did you ever make the video showing how to modify the case for backpack carrying? I just bought this sax for my son and that is his only wish - he too prefers to carry it on his back. Thanks so much!
Damn that color is so fking saxy.
+bradino27 honestly it's one of the biggest things that drew me to it. Then I started playing it and instantly fell in love with it.

Omgggggg that Bari is AMAZING
+Little Nova haha. I know right?
Súper cool Bari, beautiful sound and Cognac color
Can you please do a video on baritone sax embouchure?
same as any saxophone embouchure.
Buckylovestoast He did
Just loosen up, and build up ur air capacity
what excerpt was it that you were playing? Or was it just improvisation. It sounds so goddamn beautiful.
Timati Loh I think it was a jazzed up version of, 'Oh Danny Boy'!
It was, nice job! :)
I'm going to be doing my first cover of I get around by the Beach boys. how would i split up all the diffrent parts? by ear?
What a great review of this awesome Bari...What harness are you using?
+Wolfgang McNeil I'm using the Neotech Practice Harbess. It's amazing. Here's more info on it - amzn.to/2ikgZ2p
That’s a nice harness but I like the Vandoren harness
We're you get this beast of a horn
You can get it from most music stores. Let me know what country you live in and I'll point you in the right direction.
Music By Pedro Alberta, Canada?
Im pretty sure i use that one at school just a different color. The feel is really nice. And I love how it goes to a low A. Some older models of bari saxs only go down to a low b flat.
Your tone is so pretty
On this horn is the low A mechanized so you just have to finger c and press the low A key or do you have to finger low Bb and press the Low A key
Thanks, and thanks for watching! :)
What's the model and number of that mouthpiece? Thanks!
how much is this sax?
Ha kick ass, I thought that part was really funny but that is one beautiful sax right there my man! I play Alto and soprano but I hope to get into the baritone soon!
Awesome. Kick ass! :)
Pedro where have you been?
+Adrian Braga hi. I’m still here. Sorry for the lack of uploads. I’ve been super busy with one of my current work ventures but I hope to have some time to get something out soon! Thanks for your patience.
What do you think of the P Mauriat Le Bravo 200 in comparison to this horn?
I believe the P Mauriats have the tilted and/or adjustable low Bflat key cluster and/or the high palm keys as well, correct?
+scrapstreams I believe they're adjustable. But I don't have the horn with me at the moment to check.
Where can I try one of these out? That horn looks and sounds beautiful.
Check out the link in the description, and see what stores carry them. Then contact them to ask if they have the PMB 300 in stock. Good luck! :)
Music By Pedro I I can't find one in stores, what website would you recommended to get the cognac finish?
If you're in the US, try Woodwind Brasswind. They might have it there. If not then contact mailto:adam.macblane@stlouismusic.com for more info! Tell him Pedro sent ya! :)
Can you do a video on a Leger Bari Sax Reed on a E.Rousseau Mouthpiece
Which mouthpiece? They offer a classical and jazz selection.
Where do you buy that saxophone from?
Did you buy it from a supplier like wwbw or straight from p.Mauriet
Do the other PMB 300 models (Vintage Lacquer, Un-lacquer, Gold Lacquer) have the same case?
Yeah, this one is made to fit all the other finished, and even the Low B Bari.
Thanks for the quick reply! Just another question, how does the Le Bravo 200 compare with the PMBs?
+John Dluming I have not personally played the Le Bravo yet but I'd like to as I've heard great things about those also.
Music By Pedro agreed, power lig ROCKS!

+Elliot Payne I’ll be making a video about this soon. Stay tuned. Make sure you’re subscribed if you aren’t! :)
Music By Pedro oK thanks!
Is the mark v1 baritone good cause that's what my school uses no clue about it
A good horn is relative on its condition. I've played Good Mark VI horns and bad ones. Then there's some that are bad regardless of condition. Which that can be relevant, until I personally try and test it.
can you do a cover of wild canyon from sonic adventure 2?
+Kappa Nonamé great suggestion. I'll be sure to check it out.
Hey I live in the US and I'm thinking of getting a bari sax, but my price range just can't accomidate. Do you have any suggestions?
+BlueJay I recommmend saving up until you do. I didn't wait and got something lower quality and ended up buying two horns. Better to buy one good horns than 1 ok horn and then 1 great horn.
I want to rent or buy a bari sax. Do you have recommendations to what type I should get?
What about this one?
Music By Pedro it looks super good, sounds awsome too. I'll try to get something like this
Pedro you should try chemolon (jazz) its pretty cool
What website would you recommend if I wanted the cognac finish?
You have to check the stores, and even call and request one, so they can order it for you! :)
Music By Pedro Thanks.
How did u even manage to get it
I purchased it through St Louis Music. Email adam.macblane@stlouismusic.com if you have any additional questions :)
Is that horn laquered or unlaquered?
Chris Nowak its a cognac lacquer so yes its lacquered
Could you make a video on how to properly take care of an Alto Saxophone and the others? (I play Alto and want to keep it on good shape) if you already have one could you link it to me?
+LeeKid2 I've got a playlist for all saxophone lessons. Check it out under playlist. It goes over proper assembly and more.
What's the STREET price on this baby? Sounds Awesome.
Depends on what country youre from. Check out pmauriatmusic.com for more info.
Music By Pedro I'm in the US. I know about their website, WE as in we the PEOPLE want to know STREET price, NOT what P. Mauriat has them listed at. Thanks.
Then you should totally contact the company that does te distribution for them here in the US. Here's the email - adam.macblane@stlouismusic.com
I have the P mauriat pmb 301 GL and its great

It would be kick ass if P. Mauriat made their other saxophones (soprano, alto, tenor) in the cognac lacquer.
Could you please do some fire emblem or star fox covers (corneria pleeeeeeaaaase?)
That's awesome!
+Troy Davis thanks. Glad you liked it!
That's one beautiful horn

That's me!
Come on now! Nice review.
Magnífico!
:D
Awesome instrument, looks nice and sounds even better. Too bad I’m 17 and don’t have any money! I need to get s job!
Eyyy mee too
I assume a bari has a low a. If it doesn’t, why is it a bari tbh

Do you have a Twitter?
Yep, its @musicbypedro
If only I could afford one or really any bari😂
PLS PLAY TANK FROM COWBOY BEBOP
I've been asked to do this one, and its on my list, so stay tuned! :)
don't look at it, it'll go out of adjustment
bass clarinet is better
Play more Talk less...
Hand ASSEMBLED, NOT hand made.
+MARKLINMAN1 actually they are shaped by hand. The metal may be machine made but they are then handled by techs to shape into the part it needs to be. 🙂
