    🏀33☘️Marc this game took years off my life..we still talk about it to this day..the whole 4th was jumping up and down hugging and yelling when Larry scored..then another ‘Nique bucket and the whole house yelling f**k!!! at the same time..wash/rinse/repeat..we just couldn’t pull away because they never cooled off it was crazy..as great a scorer as Dominique was this game was different he was hitting shots that we never even saw him attempt before and being in the same conference we played them a lot..the competition and intensity here was at a level I had never felt before..incredible analysis and narration here brother🔥👏🏼 closest I’ve ever felt to being back there in that tight a** little TV room..thank you Marc👍🏼🙏🏼

    Man, what a classic! Unsung hero for Atlanta was shooting guard Randy Wittman who scored 22 on 11 for 13 shooting.

    I believe this game was in 1985. Bird had a concentration level that was extraordinary. Yes he hit the last 2 shots to finally get the win in this game. You can find a game vs Washington ( at Washington) where Bird hit a 3 pointer to tie the game at the end of the game , except KC Jones had called a time out so the 3 pointer was waved off. After the time out, Bird gets the ball and hits a running 3 pointer to tie up the game again. Then in overtime ( in the same game) down by 1 point , Bird hits another running shot to win the game = the announcers ( the Washington announcers) could only say "Incredible - there has never been anybody better ". Also the "left handed game" in Portland, where Bird totaled 20 some points left handed of his 47 total points = a game where Bird hit a fifteen foot jump shot to tie the game and force overtime and then in the overtime Bird hit the game winner with 3 seconds left to win the game. Bird loved to be able to put the game away and wanted those opportunities = he actually demanded the ball even from his coach on some occasions. His 20 points in the 4th quarter in game 7 ( on 9 out of 10 shooting) vs the Hawks and Dominque Wilkins in "the shoot-out" is another example. Bird has to be in anyone's all time starting five IMO.

    Also Marc you nailed it that’s a great eye right there take it from someone who never missed a game in that era Larry literally SPED UP his shooting mechanics on the fly during the game to overcome the double’s and triple’s but also to make sure he could beat the defenders hands that Fratello had running at him..I had never seen that before either

    The Doctor was the first high fly slammer jammer. Pull up 3, Bird against the Mavs in Dallas with 4 seconds left and down by 2.
    After this game Bird told Dominique that they both deserved to win that game.

  • @victorsixtythree

    16:04 - Man, how about that LEFTY shot in the lane?
    Also, at 19:25 after Dominique's put back, Bird had a LEFT HANDED three quarter court inbounds pass to Ainge for a wide open layup (he missed but they called goal tending on Doc).

    Bird guaranteed the win after game six. All the Hawks heard it and were upset. That fourth quarter is the most famous quarter in basketball playoff history. Doc Rivers stated that 'Nique and Bird were playing one on five basketball up and down the court and Bird's will won out at the end. I remember watching this game as a kid.

    • @MarcTheSparcTV
      @MarcTheSparcTV  2 года назад +1

      That’s crazy to guarantee a game 7 like that… but Bird really turned on the after burners in the 4th and back it up… much respect ✊🏾

    J Will used to pull up from three, no defenders. He was doing it in high school in W. Va, he was doing it at Florida and he was doing it in the league. Years before Reddick

    Larry HAS pulled up at the 3pt line but I don’t know which game….wait, I remembered one, it’s actually in his ultimate mixtape. Larry catches a long pass close to the half-court line turns around and makes a basket. He’s also actually pulled up & made a 3pt tho…

    You can tell the Celtics are old and worn out after many years playing into June. They are dragging and walking down the court, no acceleration or explosiveness. That's why the lost to the Pistons the next series. But they were still clutch and made the right pass for an open jumper. The big guys were all playing injured too.

      @@MarcTheSparcTV It was in Dallas. If you search Bird buzzer beaters, he hit it in Dallas with 4 seconds left, to go from down 2 to up 1. He had something like 45 points in the game.

    Bird has had open shots and dribbled back out to the 3 Line to shoot.
    The Chief was Offensive force ,especially on the break. He may be the best running "true center" ever...
    Warriors do one thing better than anyone and that is moving picks. Apparently no longer illegal to do so.
    As Barkley has lamented, all the dunking is hell on the body and in those days, you didn't sit down when you were banged up.... And... if Guards went around dunking on the break, somebody was going to make you pay for showing them up. You would find yourself in the fifth row or taking a Magic Special to the face like Isaiah did(with stitches) This wasn't High School and it isn't "The League" .This was grown ass men playing for blood, money and pride, not Twitter posts...
    You would have been welcome in the Garden. After the game, in certain bars, not so much...

    So I lived in Boston during Bird's early years there, became a Celts fan. Loved the team, and think DJ is one of the most underrated PG's ever. This game is later, when Bird is all busted up, but still killin' it. But yes, Boston had some definite issues with racism. I'm a white guy, but almost came to hands with a white racist from Southie. But if you had been in the Garden and rooting for the Celtics, you'd be fine. Now, if you were there with an Atlanta Jersey? Better have a police escort out of the area after the game. And then hope the Irish cops don't beat your ass.

      Yeah, I’ve heard a bunch of stories like that from players… but I’m sure that environment was one of the best in league history if you were a Celtics fan

  • @SteveGellerMusic
    @SteveGellerMusic 2 года назад

    BTW, there were some Black fans in the Garden. Not all that many, but some. Part of the problem was that during the 80's, there was a very long waiting list for tickets (the Celtics sold out nearly 500 straight games). So the people who were attending were a) usually rich (which translated usually to "White" in Boston in the 80's), and b) usually the same people. It was hard to break into the rotation.

      I've read that for Bird's first game you could still walk in off the street and be able to buy a good seat. By the sixth game tickets were standing room only. Then they became sold out until some point after Bird retired.

    I respectfully cannot watch this video as your commentary and narration is consistently present and just never never stops....the announcers comments are important and at times very profound and yet your voice is always overpowering what is being said on the video. Can't watch it...pretty obvious that this video is supposed to be all about you, not the video. Unfortunate...
