- Leica, one of the world’s best camera makers, is entering the watch business with its newly introduced L1 & L2 watches. We had the great pleasure to speak with Leica Owner Dr. Andreas Kaufmann and discuss these two very interesting models.

Alexander thanks for producing this 👏👏
Thank you for watching!
L1 & L2 look great and I like the complications.
Let's look forward to the market reception to this. I'm always for more variety with quality
We're definitely looking forward to the market reception too. And yes, new players that bring high quality are always good for the market!
Just secured my M1 watch. I put myself on the list in 2018.
Share some thoughts about with us please…
@@WatchAdvisor 3 days in. I love it. They are ACTUALLY following a list of interested parties and customer service was at a level I haven't experienced from any other watch purchase.
I have several rolexes in the collection so unfortunately some watches I see too many imperfections/mistakes and I just can't appreciate them. Not the Leica, I've even looked at it with my loupe and for the most part you can tell they really cared about how this turned out.
I'm excited to see how they progress! I have high hopes.
All Leica watch is unique with camera design element..i love it
Certainly the quality will be great! Alexander, what was the feel of these new watches? Thanks.
No complaints from my side! I would say high-quality haptics, just as you expect from a Leica camera ...
Music to my ears! Leica, welcome to mechanical watches. Thanks, Alexander.
Please let me know after you had your wrist touch and feel... Thanks!
Nice L2. I like the practical watch. You should take an example on the Bulova A15 with 2 rotating basel and add on it an alarm and you will get the best practical German watch.
There is lots of space for improvements of course… thanks for sharing…
Great video as always , wished that the gentleman used the opportunity to dwell more and even sell the Leica's vision to come into watches , I believe that this was very important for enthusiasts to be hooked with the story the Mr. Jean Claude Beaver style , wish them all the best.
IMHO, Andreas Kaufmann is a very passionate person, he not only owns Leica, he literally lives his brand…
Awesome video as always. Thank you, guys.
Thank you! :)
wow, what a catch!
:)
love it
Great to hear! :)
Welcome to watchmaking Leica.
Welcome indeed!
Nice looking pieces and interesting design. But prices are rather steep and so much competition in that price range.
Indeed nice looking pieces! Yep, time will tell how things go. :)
Nice video Alexander, not a big fan of the new Leica watches series. And by the way I really like your outfit in this video, you re a handsome men with a lot of good taste. Take care my friend.
Is this watch going to last long or is it on the same as an M digital Body ??? M bodies are kind of disposable cameras!! Anyway, I am very interested in Leica anyway. Wow, why he is wearing cotton gloves?
It is painfully clear that Leica is not selling enough cameras to sustain itself....
They have never sold as many cameras as in the last 10 years, and every year, the number increases!
But do not relocate production to Asia!
"we are filmed by a sony camera"
how was that relevant information, just made it awkward
Well you didn’t understand… Never mind!
I bough a Leica camera 1 yr ago and also intend to upgrade it in due. I'm also a watch lover and collector too. Guess what, if you put on this watch, no one will notice it because the design
is so common which is round and also the price too high for this watch. I have a Patek Nautilus, the design strike the eyes of many lookers if I put it on and people will ask.
What attract people to buy or look at a watch is the shape, dial face and function..... but as for Leica watch there is nothing attractive to me at all. I do hope Leica can do better.
I will buy their cameras but not their watches.
To compare a Patek Philippe Nautilus with the new Leica watches is not fair. The latter are designed in a way Dr. Kaufmann wanted them to appear. He created primarily a time instrument and not necessarily a design object. Still the watches have some Leica DNA. As I wrote before: A harsh comparison...
@@WatchAdvisor I do see both your point and Dr. Kaufmann point but I believe with Leica ability and strength, they could produce a better design rather than a round shape. Leica is not a small company and if you want to move to another segment, you have to be able to do good or else just stay to what you are good at. Actually it is not diffcult to have a unique design for Leica watches. Well sometimes you need comparison to impove and I always welcome comments or comparsion for improvement for my business too. Still I like Leica cameras but not their this model but hope they can come up with a nice look.
Also I'm talking about the design (shape) of the watch and dial face and not the movement because Patek product great movement which I don't expect Leica at the moment.
product - produce. Neverthess I'm upgrading my Leica camera to a better model, still love Leica!
Michael Then I hear you and I understand you! It’s a certain risk to present an avant-garde design with watches. For the majority of buyers a watch is round and the watch must be easy readable. Entering in the world of wristwatches with something futuristic would have been no good idea. And then don’t forget who should manufacture all these components? Case, movement? To start with a more conservative design seems ok for me. I am also sure that these will not be last Leica watches ...
I think I'll stick with my Harley-Davidson and Caterpillar watches I got at Walmart. No way I'm paying Rolex Sub money for a Walmart watch. Harley-Davidson, Caterpillar, Leica...none of them is real watch company.
Whoa. Leica is owned by a person?
You didn't know that?
Ghost channel
Panasonic movment? 😅
Leica watch design together with mechanical movements manufactured by Lehmann Präzision, is like adding Panasonic's digital interfaces to the very best Leica lenses. It's about bringing the best of both world's together.
Marketing myopia.
Leica already invested several millions into this project and there is a lot in the pipeline, as mentioned in the interview. So this is much more than "marketing myopia".
