The fact this game basically has seen 3 generations of consoles and 2 generations of gamers is wild to me. Lots of the younger players that never experienced the original ps3/xbox 360 versions of this game will never understand how mindblowimg original gta online was to play. I remember having mindless fun just grinding levels on gta 4 and red dead online from 2008-2012 but when gta 5 first came out and the online basically allowed ypu the freedom to do what we always wanted to be able to do in gta 4 (own cars, customisation in an open world setting, own houses) It truly was the best time from October 2013 to that ps4/xbox 2 release. After then. A whole new floodgate of players came in and after the initial hoists released, they did bring out some massive expansions which were a tonne of fun.... but now the game is over saturated, and it lhonestly feels super dry trying to play it all these years later, even though there's about 30× the original content. Only the original people who played will know just how hyped it was back when it was vanilla and we first got the valentines update with the guzenberg sweeper and the old 1950s gangster car, as well as the first update (the beach bum pack) Now THAT, was peak gta before the oppressor mk2 eventually came and changed the online free roam thereafter.
i still remember battling against so many people, when air drops where a thing, i wanted a minigun so badly when i was level 40 back in the day im now level 570+ and i low key miss the simple times of drive by shooting and blowing up money trucks, and buying a 200k Vacca was the luxury everyone wanted.
Remember standing in line at 12am, waiting to pick up my preorder😎😁 there was like nothing to do in online. Some races, missions ( rooftop rumble, titan of a job, prison break to name a few) and put a bounty on ppl. The money trucks.. oh the good oldays. Playing on 360 back then, you get into a lobby with $500M bounties and the money trucks dropping loads of money too. I came out that lobby with $1.2B. A week or two later it was gone, even the little bit that i legit collected😢😅 kept a shitty apartment that was available and my vehicles, the Adder and Entity 😅
most of the ogs from that time have left. However i still play again from time to time, you summed it up completely, the hacker mentality back then was different too, the game is completely toxic and pc gameplay is downgraded compared to gta online for xbox or ps5... so much missing content.

OG GTA Online was an experience like no other, the first time an online game in the genre was made in such a big scale
7:40 Heists were mentionned and shown in the GTA Online reveal trailer, I remember how we were confused as to why it wasn't actually in game when Online launched, so not surprising to see they wanted the feature to be there on day one
prob wasnt added for just content reasons, releasing everything fun on day 1 of online would just make it become boring fast, was boring at first, very boring, but they somehow saved it with heists.
@Lobster-hk8cf it reminded us of GTA 4 grounded gameplay just like story mode but GTA 4 online still better but I respect GTA 5 2013 it had potential but Rockstar went saints Row on us
The sun glare effect at 3:49 is probably because you play at the Xenia emulator I had the game on my 360 and I never had that problem and when I tried it on Xenia in my series x it started happening
I picked up my first copy of GTAV on launch day back in 2013 for the 360, and I had the Collectors edition. My OG account only got eaten by the new patch glitch on current gen (PS5) 2 years ago, and Rockstar to their credit tried to recover the account for almost a year. No joy, by that time I just grinded till I got most of what I wanted back and would occasionally play with friends that would pop back online. Best memory was any time a glitch popped up where we could store and modify police vehicles. On those days we could get a whole lobby to stop killing each other and just cruise in a convoy of Sheriffs or FIB SUVs. The other fun memory from the early days was a large group of us would deck out 4x4s and go offroading making up new trails as we went.
Really cool! Would love to see a deeper dive into this, maybe with some sort of mods to force the money system to work - would be cool to see what happens if you call the Lost / Vagos backup, etc
Wish they kept a reputation style with groups it would be awesome for role play purposes instead of just working with Lamar and sometimes the family gangs while also fighting them in other missions, maybe have different levels you unlock clothes, car livery’s and other items.
there was a version some modders put together called gta og, that re-created and I think captures some of the early online content, contact missions,e tc, just like it was back with the official online, but I think it's no longer active now
@DrModGTA yea but not without my cousin helping. At the time the online version was under private servers and there was a pre-build leak. Not many people knew or even played on it though
that colored map brings back memories, also when you when to warstock and there only really was the rhino tank it made me remember that everyone was always trying to break into fort zancudo do get one of those and wreak havoc in the city... those were the good times...
7:47 yee i guess it was planned from the beginning cause the game's actual story's peak when you're playing basically the heists so it was a must to have it online, I ain't a rockstar employee and whatnot but I feel like logically it is like that , cool video tho I only played gta online when It was free on epic games its cool to see the base of what we have now
Yeah heist was supposed to be in since day 1 but things were changed from what I understand I remember some players got a call or message from it in game
Yes, i remember from early days of online there was option to get a ride from top to bottom and vice versa. Just had to wait the cable car, same way as the los santos subway ride :)
I got game at launch loaded up and went straight to online instead of story it let me stay playing for 12 hours before being kicked and not let back on because of GTA server issues I've still got that character and lots of the t shirts I don't see anyone else have and my apartment did have a heist set up but I couldn't start it also you would get some random txt messages from characters I've never seen again but the funny thing was there was no limit on the amount of cars you could sell at auto shop so I made heaps doing that and you would also come across the lost attacking random gangs and you had to decide who you were going to defend like some sort of gang attack which was fun but I do miss the old style map
The gang backup stuff might have been remnants from the original Cops and Crooks style of online Rockstar originally was going to go with rather than what we got instead.
Decent amount of differences to release cool vid. I am afraid the glitches are more of broken xenia than anything fromthe actual beta you have here. Xenia is still janky af and those are common graphics bugs
Can you make a video about the known GTA Prototype Builds from GTA Chinatown Wars PSP,GTA The Lost And Damned Xbox 360,and a newly GTA Liberty City Stories PSP
In a twist of fate, they basically deleted everything they had worked on and somehow ended up with one of the most successful multiplayers of all time As Strauss Zelnick said in that interview a while ago. They had never planned for any of this success, Rockstar were learning what to do with GTA Online day by day as players explored it's features I'd imagine part of the small delay from Spring 2013 to Fall was crunch time last minute multiplayer changes
Why did I sell my Entity XF? I miss that car everyday. I have been driving in my Zentorno since May 2014 and the only reason I even have the car still is because I cannot sell it.
Back in my day if you saw anyone on the map outside of los santos that was an indicator of a Tryhard, as noone else really had much of a reason to be out there besides exploring the missions. Even though you could just join the invites thru your phone. Only reason players would be out there in freemode was to get the Lazer from the military base
Okay so I'm confused - you basically were put into a solo GTAO server except it was all on-disk and currency was minimally working? Or did the patch force it to think it was online, but load online from disk? Did it even touch rockstar's servers or no? I'm confused...
A couple of notes, Heists were announced in one of the original launch trailers. The reason all the items are so inflated is because of all the money/car glitches at the start of GTAO. R* had originally wanted a 'real time econemy'.
why not try to use cheat engine? it could maybe work. If you can get a money from peds or robbing a store, maybe you can track it with cheat engine and change the value of it
playing since the og day 1. when I think about it, quite a time. But I keep losing more and more interest in it honestly. The over-inflated economy just so R* can sell more shark cards and the lackluster treatment of PC players in recent years (I ported form console to PC back when it released)... there was a time when I was playing it day in day out, but nowadays it's fun for an hour or two a week but that's it for me.
Pay to win hot garbage? Yes But with less features? Not in a million years, you could argue that most of them suck a lot, and you would be right, but the game has a lot more content and is way fun to play than before.
Been playing from Day 1, pretty much every day until 2017... burn out is real. Checked in for Cayo Perico but that was it. Had loads of fun, but damn... been a long, long time ago if you think about it. Times flying... (and still no GTA VI yet, lol)
